I have a challenge for you all. It is actually fairly simple; it involves taking a stock BattleMech/OmniMech, and then swapping out parts to increase the BV of the unit as much as you possibly can without actually making the mech any better at its intended role than it was before.
You are allowed to used Mixed Technology, Fractional Accounting, and Patchwork Armor for this challenge. Design quirks are also allowed to an extent, but try keep it reasonable.
Examples of questionable design choices include, but are not limited to;
- Long range fire support mechs equipped with Impact Resistant Armor
- Replacing a pair of Small Lasers with an Improved Heavy Small Laser and a Laser Insulator
- Putting a RISC Laser Pulse Module on an ER Small Laser
- Replacing two Single Heat Sinks with an Armored Double Heat Sink
- Switching from Single to Compact Heat Sinks when you don't need the space
- Put TSMs on a mech that can't actually make use of them
- Use Caseless autocannon ammo, but halve the ammunition supply
- Use incendiary autocannon ammo in a mech intended for duels against other mechs
- Replace a pair of Medium Lasers with an Improved Heavy Medium Laser and make it an Armored Component
- Switch from Endo Steel to a Composite Internal Structure, but don't use the extra space
- Build a bracket-fire mech using Clan weapons
- Upgrade a set of Autocannons, Gauss Rifles, Mech Mortars or Missile Launchers to their Clan counterparts, but don't make full use of the weight/space you saved
- Use Multi-Missile Launchers in a long range fire support mech, and forget to carry SRMs
- Use an XL Gyro when you don't need the weight
- Use a Small Cockpit when you don't need the space or weight
I am sure everyone can come up with some equally questionable design choices. Keep in mind though that you are not trying to design the worst mech ever here, you're just trying to get the least possible bang for your buck when it comes to BV (and/or C-Bills) out of a Mech variant.
