Why don't we start at the one point that caused the entire game to started to 'go to the dark side'.
Change the history so the clans did not allow a free birth to command over 5 regiments of troops and send them into the innersphere?
The clans would never have invaded the IS without the Wolf's Dragoons sending back the intel they did.
A good chunk of history would have the IS states in a completely different situation. The damage the dragoons did to Liao would not have been done, as well as the civil war in the FWL may not have been started, or finished sooner. The entire cycle there would have changed with the CC being more powerful then what it was.

- The correct term is freeborn. Freebirth, specifically, is a derogatory term.
- What do you mean the damage done to Liao? You're saying that the Wolves Dragoons did all that?
- I agree that the Clans should have waited for the intel from the Dragoons. I also agree that they shouldn't have chosen just five Clans, and instead should have all gone at once. "We go together, or not at all."

The clans used the intel that the IS was looking to form a new star league, and that would have been without the clans involved.
And the damage done was in the year 3005 to 3010 if I remember the history. It opened up strikes in areas from not only weakening the forces, but destroying alot of infrastructure. I know they took a planet named Halloran (page 7 of Wolf's Dragoons #1631) that was a good copper source from Liao, causing major issues.
The helped significantly hurt other units Liao was using to raid the Suns, putting the CC on the defensive again.
Then when Liao had them in their employ, they were sent to assist the revolution in the FWL. Without the dragoons, that would have folded alot sooner then it did, with less damage to Janos Mariks forces.
And in that book, it said the dragoons used their own intel to hit Liao, and confirmed the id of the raiders hitting davion. Yeah, it is a bit of time to the clans, but it was this information that gave the clans the 'reasons' to invade.
As the lore goes, the intel from the dragoons dropped off, and the clans didn't have alot of newer information about the forces and how the IS was structured.
The clans decision on who would be included in the invasion basically went 4 clans had to earn their spot, while the warden wolves were forced to participate. The clans only all together concept was to prevent the star league from being formed without them leading it.
