The Cliffhanger is basically a redesign of the Clint. Still wanting to produce a cheap recon/striker mech, not as reliant on ammo as the original design, but beefing up the armor, blueprints have been drawn up for the Cliffhanger and a single prototype has been made. Ferro Fibrous and Endo steel keep the mech lightweight enough to add extra armor. The ER PPC of the Clint 3U has been remove in favor of the less heat intensive ER Large Laser while still retaining the range and hitting power needed. To complement the range of the ER Large Laser, a shoulder mounted LRM 5 has been added. For short range, 2 Medium Lasers provide ample punch at short range and an SRM 2 seeks to exploit any holes left in an opponent's armor. To protect the Cliffhanger from deadly ammo explosions, all ammo has been stored on the Left Torso and protected by CASE. The thought of using an XL engine has been going around, but that will greatly reduce survivability as well as skyrocket the price of the Cliffhanger. As such, no plans are in the works for an XL Cliffhanger.

Weighing in at the lower end of the medium weight bracket, the 'mech designated as the "Mortis" has been designed by Damage, Inc. for potential production by Bodie Industries. Using recovered Star League tech, the 'Mech is built around a snub-nosed PPC for medium to short range engagements, supported at short range by a pair of Streak SRM-2 racks. Thanks to its standard 240-class fusion engine, its ammo bin being mounted in the second most heavily armored portion of the 'mech--the center torso--along with the fact that the Endo-Steel chassis was covered in seven and a half tons of Ferro-Fibrous armor, this 'Mech has proven in battlefield simulations to be incredibly durable for its size. Despite this, the Mortis still retains the agility common to most 'Mechs of its weight class, matching the vaunted Phoenix Hawk in speed and jump capability. All for the price of 4.1 million C-Bills.

Designer's Notes:

--- --The Unity is a 3068 45-ton BattleMech designed for heavy hitting firepower. In it's weight class, the Unity is a truly fearsome machine with it's 15-Tube Long-Range Missile launcher and PPC. A Medium Laser and two Small Lasers provide firepower up close to support the weapons minimum range. 9 tons of Standard armor provide more than ample protection for such a light 'Mech while 11 Double Heatsinks keep the Unity fairly cool. A weight saving Endo-Steel chassis and 225 Light Fusion Enigne allow the Unity to pack all of this power and protection alongside four Jump Jets all while propelling the 'Mech up to 86.4 km/h. Tipping the scales at just over 6 million C-Bills however, the Unity is far from a throwaway investment. Being roughly 400k short of an Awesome; the Unity is not your typical Medium weight BattleMech. In principal being more of a high-mobility Assault 'Mech; the Unity nevertheless excels at bringing heavy firepower to units with small MechBays or limited drop weight.
