47. Resentful at having to accept this peace many former Clan Warriors start a war with the SLDF (aided by like-minded former Clan Warriors on the Clan Home Worlds), and declaring it a sham, Multiple battles start on planets within the periphery as former Jade Falcon and Wolf fight the Star League and on the pentagon worlds – Victor sends in his forces to assist the defence of the Clan worlds from returning to their old ways.
48. Katherine Demands that Victor “bends the knee” to her (upon realizing that he has created a powerful realm of his own and not some backward periphery nation) – thus his and his Wife’s new Great house worlds be absorbed into the FC under her authority – War breaks out.
49. As the new Coordinator of the DC Omika’s brother refuses to assist her and her new realm in this time of trouble.
50. End of war – no real clear winner.
51. War erupts in the Deep Periphery between FC and DC as to recently found / important border worlds – ie. water rich, minerals etc – regarding ownership. This spills over into the IS as battles erupt along the FC/DC border.
52. Worlds change hands only – war ends.
53. The DC Coordinator is assassinated leaving Omika and Victors 1st Child as the lawful successor to the thrown …. He together with the DCMS deep periphery forces launch a war to acquire his rightful thrown from the puppet that have been put in their – Civil War within the DC.
54. Victor and Omika’s son takes the thrown – battles start with the Black Dragon Society…
55. Clan Wolverine is found … however they have no intention or re-joining the Star League – the Current First Lord Marik Travels to the Wolverines Homeworld to state his case – however, before he is able to do so he is assassinated – As next in line for the First Lords position Katherine Steiner-Davion declares war upon the Wolverines – SLDF and Wolverines engage in a war as the SLDF eventually force the wolverines to the table and absorb them into the Star League.
56. Unwilling (or bribed) to go to war many of the smaller powers including ComStar and the FWL accept this proposal – only the DC and Victor / Omika’s Realm protest.
57. Katherine is appointed the First Lord of the Star League.
58. Katherine dies many years latter of old age.
59. Katherine’s daughter becomes the new First Lord.
60. Mismanagement of the Star League ultimately results in a war between Katherine’s daughter’s Allies (FC, FWL, DofA and MofC) and that of the DC and Victor/Omika’s empire with the former Clan Worlds and the newly acquired Clan Wolverine worlds remaining apart from the war.
61. Outcome? Will the Star League Survive or become fractured once again?

Thoughts re my draft?

Really, in order to send the Clans screaming back to Strana Mechty with their tails between their legs, one need only go as far as #1, and start building VTOLs en masse. Ever wondered *why* every computer version of _BT_ either limits, or eliminates altogether, VTOLs?

(Back when TR:3050 first released, we tested it -- the Clans died, and died, and died. By our estimation, at best, the Clans would be running for home within the first year. Even building "FlAK Specials" didn't help much; the Gauss Rifle outranges the LB-[n]X ACs, and any equivalent value of VTOLs is going to fuzzy-wuzzy Clanners to death.)

fighters using titan drop ships, or vengeance carriers?
Or will they get another carrier ship?

Will Katherine and Vlad hook up in this alt? Or do they become enemies?
What become of Kali Liao? It would be more likely Kai Liao-Allard would kill him.
Does any of the other Davion-Steiner children attempt to take the throne or help Victor?
From the sounds of it WOB jihad does not happen.
Anything happen with the Concordat?
What happens to Theodore Kurita? Retired? Assassinated? Killed in combat?

There are some issues with massed vtols that the clans have. The warships to destroy dropships carrying them.
Unless you destroy their aerospace forces, you have issues there. Given the alt, this seems to happen.

And the lbx 2 and 5 outrange the gauss rifle. The 2x outranges the light gauss as well. Unless they changed the ranges from the BMR rules.
The ultra 2 is the only one that has better range in that series.

Q: fighters using titan drop ships, or vengeance carriers?
Vengeance

Q: Or will they get another carrier ship?
In time, another carrier ship.

Q: Will Katherine and Vlad hook up in this alt? Or do they become enemies?
Never meet

Q: What become of Kali Liao? It would be more likely Kai Liao-Allard would kill him.
Kali – Career officer who ends up living in the Deep Periphery with Victor and Omi.
Kai – No, sister killing brother is more dramatic.

Q: Does any of the other Davion-Steiner children attempt to take the throne or help Victor?
Unknown – The usual though Mechwarrior, marry, children etc

Q: From the sounds of it WOB jihad does not happen.
Yes the WOB does not happen.

Q: Anything happen with the Concordat?
The pocket warship made by the Taurian and Canopus? – I would assume more pocket warships are made as time progresses.

Q: What happens to Theodore Kurita? Retired? Assassinated? Killed in combat?
Unknown – at a guess killed in Combat.

The concordat question was more of if they got involved in anything, or just tried to stay out of it all.
As the original league tried to get all periphery states to join, I was curious on if they tried to get the Concordat as well as the Outworld Alliance and a few others.

I would assume the St. Ives compact was absorbed into the FC.

To close up loose ends, what happens to the march lords in the FS area? They side with Katherine peacefully, and live? Or does she start removing them from power?

MegaMek doesn't limit or eliminate VTOLs. I had a friend who loved them for a while, but they were very easy kills with LBX units. He got pissed that I made "tanks specialized to kill one threat," but then I demonstrated my "Bugswatter" tanks against other vehicles. LBXs are nasty crit-finding vehicle killers.

That's not correct. Inner Sphere and Clan Gauss rifle: long range 22.
Clan LB5X: long range 24
Clan LB2X: long range 30

The Inner Sphere's light Gauss rifle (range 25) doesn't out-range all the LBXs, and was only introduced 6 years after the invasion began. There are a number of other Clan weapons that out-range Gauss Rifles, too, but your point was specific to LBXs.

Also, VTOLs carrying Gauss rifles are usually slow and vulnerable to being overrun by fast Clan ground units (not to mention fighters). Maintaining that perfect 1-2 hex range advantage over most (but not all) Clan units would be challenging in anything but very broken terrain.

This isn't to say Clan dominance is assured in a sensible setting that uses the Inner Sphere's strengths well. I just disagree that VTOLs are a cure-all.

Reunification War? Yes Katherine would also demand all periphery realms join ‘her’ Star League – one way or another!

Q: I would assume the St. Ives compact was absorbed into the FC.

No, St. Ives will remain a separate State via careful management with their larger neighbour.

Q: To close up loose ends, what happens to the march lords in the FS area? They side with Katherine peacefully, and live? Or does she start removing them from power?

Like all institutions they are very hard to remove, thus as long as they do Katherine’s bidding when requested to do so they cannot be removed – Think about Elizabeth 1st reign / her use of spies / division in state etc – maybe something like this exists?

So, removing them from power would be very difficult – that is unless someone within the line of succession would be willing to sell out their entire family for power. Does anyone come to mind? Sun-Tsu? He is put up by Katherine to commit a coup and take over – however Kali gets in the way – forcing her to flee ..
Anyone else?

I ask, why compare this to the Canon, why look for what was in the canon that should also be here?

I know there will be parts that will overlap ....

But on its own how do you find this draft notes?

Would you change - add – subtract from any area?

Overall how do you see the story flowing from the start onwards?

Or is it that the Canon is the Canon and should never be changed no matter how many plot holes we find or areas that make no military or tactical sense what-so-ever?

For me I want a game that can go from one to the next to the next with a good plotline that is why I like the idea that I can go from the front line then onto a commando raid (gaining the pirate queen) and then onto a naval periphery campaign and then return to then front in time for a mass invasion of clan worlds and form there onto the clan home worlds them-selves – each time I am moving forward in the game .

However for the Canon it is like stop start stop start with no real flow.

So, what is it you want from the game, the status quo or something more?

Responses anyone? (Veritas)

As most, if not all people here have seen the canon lines, the questions of what was, and what is, overlaps in areas. The TC for instance. Without input, it almost looks like it dropped off the map entirely. Even just saying it maintained it's distance would be sufficient.

The Kai Liao-Allard subject is another one of those things. He was supposed to be a great mech pilot, and was Candace Liao's son. No longer being canon, it could very well have been, he wasn't even born. Maybe Justin Allard was found out and executed, which would change the concept of the St. Ives compact. So comparing them is necessary in aspects.

The use of any character in the game is a comparison. Not using them confuses the entire process, so it has to be done.

What is wanted is irrelevant. Your game, your time line.
If you are looking for support in an alt time line, your players are the only ones that can do so.

Doesn't mean I will agree to it all. Some holes from the canon line seem to be crossing over to here. The pulling a rabbit out of a hat is old. Being able to go from one side of the IS to the other without command circuits is not possible in a quick time. It looks like the IS is over a year's worth of traveling from MofC to the clan invasion point. That is if you can catch a jump ship at every point, with a weeks worth of recharge time.
It may be smaller, as I have not counted out the number of jumps needed, but 30 light years is small compared to the IS map.

Report on the Clan’s Invasion Opening Chapter ….

When the Clan’s Army invaded the Inner Sphere in 3050, the Federated Commonwealth’s authorities were taken completely by surprise. At a stroke the political situation was transformed, and the Federated Commonwealth, hitherto standing alone, found itself with multiple allies of huge potential. However, the wartime alliance between the Federated Commonwealth, Rasalhauge and the Draconis Combine was not one of three like-minded states engaged through a common purpose. It was instead a joining of states who, at best distrusted each other deeply and were united by no more than the aim of defeating the Clans.

Taking a more pragmatic view, a rapprochement based only on self-interest, culminated in the reformation of the Star League as diplomatic relations between these three realms were placed on a proper footing. All agreed to abandon their claim as to the Star League Succession and all parties agreed to remain neutral from an attacking those within the League or taking another’s worlds due to this war. There were other, secret clauses which permitted the transfer of ideas and technology – these included the anti-elemental rifle and the utilization of commando raids against their newly formed garrisons in an effort to obtain prisoners, information and technology - the use of big wing aerospace assault units, armed with capital missiles, in an effort to destroy warships and jump-ships, thus slowing their advance into Inner Sphere.

With the introduction of these Regimental Aerospace Combat Teams – ‘Big Wings’ – on all the fronts the Clans were for the first time put on the back foot. As demonstrated by DCMS’ destruction of the Smoke Jaguar warship that was utilized in the Turtle Bay affair.

While the Clans won victory after victory on land the Clans pressure on the Inner Sphere mounted and by the ninth month of the invasion, and the Army of the Star league’s position became more acute. They required technological parity which would guarantee their future offensive capabilities.

Discussions by Commanders were followed by diplomatic visits where recommendations where delivered in a characteristically forthright fashion, many did not consider the sending of a task forces into the Periphery to be a realistic proposition.

As one General put it.”… It seemed to me there could be no future in sending a force to operate in the void … further it seemed to be a questionable policy to use Vengeance Carriers and Overlord Dropships and utilizing former pirates, which I understood had been the intention, to operate as a convoy wolf pack against an occasional Clan warship force …..”

This view, however, was not shared by the Archon who had given the Coordinator an undertaking that naval forces would be sent into the Periphery as military rationale was overridden by political necessity. Thus what could be done was being done as the newly commissioned Fenrir units were ordered to investigate in order to discover Clan depos – stations whose spare parts and replacement personnel were of great value to the Clans. By the twelfth month the first of what was hoped to many was discovered and captured their equipment and personnel were quickly evacuated to the Inner Sphere. These pirate wolf packs armed with their forces and expert navigators were able to operate months behind enemy lines staging raids all along the periphery, then running for the void as pursuit would be quick.

In the coming months more “pirate wolf packs” were entering the void from both the Federated Commonwealth and the Draconis Combine as many Clan warships within the Inner Sphere were also being reported as location unknown, presumed returned to the periphery as more liberated Clan materiel found its way to the front lines. However, it added another burden to the Jump-ship Navy, which was becoming overstretched, and the number of engagements were increasing as convoys on both sides faced considerable opposition from their counterpart as Clan Warships provided support, while pirate aerospace forces were able to make use of asteroids and their like to make ‘dropship-air-fields’ effectively cutting routes into the Inner Sphere and severely damaging passing Clan Convoys, becoming masters of the hit-and-run.

Even the one year halt in the Clan offensive to all ground operations could not deter these pirates from their continued raiding of Clan ships and depos.

And by the end of the second year a new dimension to the war occurred as the Com Guards battled the might of the Clans for Terra –humanities home-world. In a bitter series of battles the Com Guard was unexpectedly able to defeat the Clans thus halting their advance for fifteen years.

However as this battle raged the Federated Commonwealth, Rasalhague and the Draconis Combine launched their own Blitzkrieg effectively denying the Clans to the periphery and their supply depos that lied beyond. Badly damaged and in need of repair many clan units were engaged by the Star League Defence Forces as for the first time they were being forced to retreat.

Clans Nova Cat and Smoke Jaguar, incurred the first of two catastrophes to befall the Clans. They attempted to assert their strength by attacking Lutherin, the Capitol of the Draconis Combine. With the aid of two of the most famous mercenary units Wolfs Dragoons and the Kell Hounds the DCMS were able to shake of this invasion and inflict severe damage to the attacking forces.

The second catastrophe to befall the Clans came with the discovery of their HPG Station located deep within the Periphery. With its destruction the Inner Sphere Clans communication was now cut off from their Home-worlds counterparts. As the Clan bubble began to shrink the Star League became embolden by their victories against the Clans – Initiating Operation Bulldog - and liberating one world after the next, the Star League defence forces were on the attack.

With the start of the second Star League Conference, to the surprise of all the Coordinator of the Draconis combine announced that Clan Nova Cat had defected and were seeking acceptance into the Star League and with that the plan for the great counterattack was underway – Operation Serpent. The next chapter of the war was being prepared and many were attempting to get their unit written into it.

The software doesn't, this is true -- but the people running the servers do.

Not if they didn't bring them in the opening bid -- and they didn't. (Partly due to TR3055 not having been released at the time; mostly due to the in-game "prejudice" the Invading Clans had against anything non-'Mech -- players didn't get Clans like Star Raven until *much* later.)

Then there was "fun with Bidding": There was one event where the IS Defending Force was a "transport company". The Clan player did not know that the VTOL "transports" had been rigged for carrying bombs. (There was an argument over whether this was a legit tactic -- I had to whip out some of my text references to stuff like the "daisy cutter" bomb, and the "Mad Bomber" Hueys from Vietnam, to show that helicopters could, and had been, used as bombers before. Later, I did the same thing using _Planetlifter_s....)

In another instance, the IS player referenced an "assault company's worth of vehicles" -- not mentioning that the company in question was 20 20-ton VTOLs with a bucketload of SRMs each. When asked, he pointed out how company "weight" was solely based upon the total mass of the units, not the number -- referencing some of the three-'Mech "lances" in the Waco Rangers, or the infamous "Delta Company" (by weight an "assault company", by number 24 or so medium and light 'Mechs).

Quote:

That's not correct. Inner Sphere and Clan Gauss rifle: long range 22.
Clan LB5X: long range 24
Clan LB2X: long range 30

True -- but said LB is now at +4 (+3 using "canister" instead of "solid shot"; and even the later "FlAK attack" was still +1 at Long), plus whatever movement mods there are (usually +4). Even Clan Gunners are at less-than-50% to-hit at that point, and that's with a dedicated "walking FlAK Circus", which most Clan 'Mechs *weren't*.

Admittedly, the _Yellow Jacket_ isn't that swift ( 6/9 move); but it didn't exist at the time, so we had our own designs, which were a bit faster (our credo was "the best armor is Not Getting Hit").

Quote:

Not a cure-all, to be sure -- there were losses. However, building VTOLs was much faster, and much cheaper, than building 'Mechs (or rather, rebuilding 'Mechs, as most 'Mechs had to be upgraded in order to keep them viable). Think in terms of Mercer Ravannion's "hordes" -- our typical 20-ton combat VTOL had a BV of ~400; the typical Clan 'Mech was somewhere ~1,500; on average, we lost 1-2 VTOLs for every 'Mech. Do The Math.

Report on the SLDF Invasion Opening Chapter ….

Whilst Operation Serpent was being assembled the final act was being played out with the remaining Clan forces. In a dramatic turn of events two allies turned on each other and a third entered into a secret agreement with Rasalhague.

Clans Jade Falcon and Wolf engaged in an undetermined civil war, both Clans tore into the other with a renewed ferocity until a section of Clan Wolf abandoned the battle and sought refuge with the mercenary unit Kell Hounds.

The SLDF immediately capitalised upon this wanton self-mutilation by launching an immediate strike upon the survivors of these two Clans.

As for the Ghost Bears, an asylum request was made with Rasalhague for them and their people into the Star League – allowing their entire civilian population to to emigrate. This was seen at the time as a positive step towards the reunification of all humanity within the Star League.

As the remaining Clans were finally isolated the collective remains of these forces gathered together and punched through the blockade and into the deep Periphery.

Everything then came down to expediency, by allowing the final piece to be put in place, as Katherine Steiner-Davion was made regent of the Federated Commonwealth, allowing her brother Victor his rightful place Operation Serpent.

Upon the Exodus Road Operations the SLDF Operation Serpent signals acknowledging a message from Fenrir, their request for warships had presented the Advance fleet with excellent bearings indicating that the HPG station had been located and its guard warship was on the move. With a delay of four hours behind the warship Fenrir had been obliged to break wireless silence to ask Admiralty to operate their cruisers and destroyers in the area, hoping that the signal would be intercepted by the Clan HPG Station, who would recall the warship. This would not only ensure the safety of the convoy but would bring the Clan’s battleship within range of Vengeance’s Aerospace. They acted swiftly in neutralizing both in a matter of minutes as range became optimal.

A tactic that was repeated many times as the convoy moved ever closer to the Clan Home-worlds.

With one jump from Strana Mechty the decision was made to divide the fleet – The SLDF Clans and the bulk of the transports would establish a fall back line in case the worse prevailed whist Victor’s Inner Sphere Contingent, containing a considerable warship and Fenrir transports travelled on.

As the Fleet arrived Victor Steiner-Davion addressed the Grand Council from orbit with a simple statement: the invasion was over. Then going beyond that statement, in his words the SLDF took action, “not to impose our way of life upon you, but to stop you from attempting to impose your way of life on us.” And as such no refusal was asked for … Victor concluded his offer to the Clans with the chance to re-join the Star league. 1

The Grand Council, however, reacted in a manner befitting their heritage and upbringing – viewing the speech as a judgement upon their culture as no refusal was requested – and promptly ordered a strike upon the SLDF.

As the Clans combined fleet began to close it was clear the offer was rejected - they were blinkered as to their warrior culture and lifestyle.

Then the most unexpected occurred with the appearance of a single jump-ship that was completely different to any of her predecessors classes, it was clear she was designed for stealth, as her transponder codes identified the craft as the Sarah McEvedy. A laser ship-to-ship relay was established, Victor was provided with coordinates for safe port, taking advantage of a possible split in the Grand Councils Warden and Crusader politics they jumped to safety.

Upon emerging from their jump the SLDF convoy were welcomed to The Elysian Fields, an immense black nebula. Where Victor was introduced the Descendants of Clan Wolverines Will for all intense and purposes a Clan’s Heimdall. Who have been working in secret for over two hundred years in an attempt to return the Clans to that of their original Star Leagues culture?

After their first discussion Victor realised that the extremism of the Clans would be ongoing from one generation to the next unless an entirely new system was established, his new mission was clear to purge the Clans of their culture and establish a new one.

So it was that the Twilight of the Clans War began as the Clan Home-worlds came under attack on two different fronts … with one wave assisting Ghost Bears escape … the other ... straight for the jugular ....

How long does it take to build an HPG?
While thinking on this, does WOB take earth before the comstars fight with the clans? Maybe it would be easier to see if WOB ever forms.
There would have to be a few of them built in order to keep contact with the IS.
But the question does come up on wether the clans would destroy the HPGs to prevent them from falling into the invaders hands, or keep with the lack of waste training they get.

Did the IS add to the construction of the Vengeance Dropship facilities, or hope they had enough as well as the aero fighter production?
Do AMS engage and destroy capital missiles? Or is the Alamo not considered one?
One more issue, did the IS strip their pilots from their nations for this? Training a pilot takes more then a year or two, especially aero pilots. Fighter controls is only part of that training. Learning how to navigate in space as well as other things takes time. Then the lack of people wanting to fly them may be an issue.
The idea of drones to take the alamos into the warships might be an alternative to the pilot problem. Even loading up shuttles or some such to be used as remote guided missiles would be an idea. No need for life support or worry about g-force stresses. Slap on larger engines to get them there quickly. The Achilles is too large to even think about it, but the speed is the key. Less flight time, means less likely to be engaged or evaded.
The SDS systems not being vulnerable to ECM brings up another possible key to this.

Now one big hitch in this. The only warships available before 3055 is what comstar and the clans had. So unless you push up that time table, there is no warships to defend/be part of the counter invasion other then comstars.

"MegaMek doesn't limit or eliminate VTOLs. I had a friend who loved them for a while, but they were very easy kills with LBX units. He got pissed that I made "tanks specialized to kill one threat," but then I demonstrated my "Bugswatter" tanks against other vehicles. LBXs are nasty crit-finding vehicle killers. "

I knew this guy years ago playing Babylon 5 Wars (by AOG) who would almost always take stealth ships (mainly Minbari) and got ticked off when I would frequently field forces against him with area effect weapons that ignored stealth. The area effect weapons were good against other units too though, so if he surprisingly took something other than stealth ships, I would be O.K., It was kind of a similar situation to yours.

Another idea came up.

Depending on the range of the alamo, wouldn't the PPC be a better idea? It does 10 normal points, so 1 capital point of damage every time it hits. Same as the Alamo, yet not limited in shots. Granted other weapons could be used, but most are ammo dependent. The ERPPC has extra range, but the IS one seems too inefficient to be used. As most clan warships do not have anti fighter weapons, you have time to pick it apart.

And when you are talking of massed fighter attacks, IE the regimental air groups, this would be much better then using the nukes. Refitting fighters might be easier then trying to make the nukes.
That is IF you are only using the nukes against warships, and nothing else.
Looking at this, the air groups don't need nukes to engage the warships.

… my current family is not of my birth … the day I became part of my true family is one of my greatest joys … my sister and me alone, orphans, on an inhospitable world … then she found us and adopted us …
.
… I keep reading the poem over and over … I am a Samurai and the way of the Samurai is all I know… then considering the dictums of Purity and Honour – giri (duty) and ninjo (duty) as well as the virtues that all Samurai should possess …filial piety and devotion; duty and obligation; loyalty; faith; brotherhood or in my case sisterhood; sympathy and benevolence; wisdom; and courtesy or proper form.

From these I draw my strength as to what must be done to ensure my Ladies safety above that of all else … I take up my Katana …
.
Many years have passed since our induction and today whilst my sister, Mika, was attending to our Ladie’s private garden, something caught her eye she bent down and touched something … the next thing I remember she is dying in my arms, and even through all her pain I could see the joy and love in her eyes as in her death our mistress is alive ..

Given the current state of politics in the Inner Sphere there could only be one culprit who would dare such an assassination, upon removing the most obvious, that being the Black Dragon Society … that left only Kathrine …

With orders quickly given we fled and by the end of that day, as even our own home was not to be considered safe, and the disclosure of my ladies’ secret would bring forth a situation none would be willing to divulge at this delicate time … from home to an as-yet unnamed Inazuma Class Corvette, that my lady gave the name Hime Fuse.

… I was quite surprised it did not take long for the eighty two of us to take our positions and slip the mooring on the fully equipped and stocked Naval Vessel.
.
As no pursuit was forthcoming on our voyage to the Periphery, when we emerged from our jump, a Fenrir vessel was awaiting our arrival, a Vengeance Class Dropship quickly detached and reattached to our ship.

For the first time ever I saw my mistress running, outpacing all her guards as I also ran to catch up with her I arrived just in time to see it …. the door slid free and there they were three individuals a young woman whom I instantly recognised as Yvonne together with two young children hanging on to her … with a quick word from Yvonne and a push on their backs, their eyes and smiles went wide with joy … as I heard it “Mommy” they ran and embraced my lady … not since their birth had I last seen them the twins with their mother … Kitsune and Sora …
.
As these months have gone by I was overjoyed with becoming a friend to both Kitsune and Sora. Though truth be told I do have reservations with some of the things their aunt, Yvonne, was having them instructed in … not only were they being taught to use a shinai, they were also being instructed in epee … and as for Sora’s anime drawings ….
.
After many weeks of pestering by Sora I was allowed to take my young lady Sora for a flight in my fighter … following which she presented me with a ‘chibi’ drawing of myself and my fighter … and as such have ensured this artwork will remain as safe as I can make it so …
.
After many months in the void we have arrived into the dystopian reality that is the Clan’s Twilight War. After six years it is still only half completed with half of the Clan worlds now held by Victor’s forces, I heard the rumours but even this had not prepared me … captured Clan web intercepts were alive with reports as to the ongoing state of the war …

From the early days as…
• initial partisan strikes upon armouries and manufactories;
• the destruction of the gene repositories;
• the fall off the Grand Council’s hall;
• the ongoing purges of disloyal citizens by their elementals;

… to the ongoing battles throughout the clan territory and beyond, and more recently the discovery of workers internment camps. I thank the unfinished book the children have been kept from such knowledge …
.
Under heavy escort we were taken to The Elysian fields’ and there into its heart, a marvel of engineering, the single largest man made object …and finally inside and to a fruit and pine forest of all things where he was waiting for them … a moment of pure joy… a family reunited … Victor … together with my Lady Omika and their children as I and Yvonne were the only onlookers …

It is amazing how a persons’ personality can change in a heartbeat, from Victor the Warrior General to that of Father and brother … I was quite impressed with the gifts he had on hand also a carry case containing two kittens … even I smirked with joy …

My Lady was now as safe as she could be with that of her future husband, and distance and war between her assassin and her refuge …
.
With the sweet so to must come the sour, as two days have now passed following their reunion, Yvonne has informed Victor as to the loss of his throne … Kathrine had deposed him …

As we all sat in the galley, rum flowing free Ricardo jumped on the table quaffing he began his story …

“The plan has many moving parts, but if we stick to the plan it will work”, a slight whiff of girl reported to her crew. Though now her hair contains more grey streaks within than the original bright red from the first time I met her, though her eyes have never lost their intensity … their cold intensity … or their newly added cruelty. Appearances aside, this whiff of a girl is our Captain and one of Katherine’s most violent corsair captains of mark, dressed in back, with her new toy now resting carefully on her hip, a whip that could shred a man’s back with ease …. So mind your manners boys and girls …

As the laughter began to reach a crescendo …

However, I mustn’t forget, tomorrow is the day of the dead and a time to remember – as her crew, aboard the Fenrir ship Compass Rose, we all have the same story. As for our story … my Captain, Lacretia Mere Eglise, and myself, Ricardo Vimont, we were ordinary teenagers within a normal pirate enclave, then the Clans arrived with death and fire on a scale as yet unseen, a vision of hell. Where our Captain – Lacretia - witnessed an elemental butcher her mother and father, from there we were sent to a re-education camp and we were the lucky ones!, starvation and the deprivation of the camp only make us harder, that is until the day we escaped with a Lyran commando squad and from there to a Fenrir pirate crew … and now she commands … and tomorrow is the day of the dead and a certain ‘right’ need to be observed…

Tapping his finger to his nose as many within the audience bobbed their head in agreement with this statement of fact … the story began anew …

Emerging from the jump we took up position within the asteroid field, our prey was predictable in his movements this time, and our prey was lethal - a Clan Sovetskii Soyuz Warship.

As hands and drink shifted violently through the air …

‘Maintain positions’, said Lacretia, as I quickly replied back “Radar and all sensors are still non-functional !”.

The Ship grew swiftly and was under power, still accelerating through the high concentration of radiation this area of space has, ensuring our quarry was blind, though we had a man on that rock and he had with him a torch and a detonator …
Too close and too late … the detonator went off driving shards of rock towards the ship as our fighters pounced onto it … too late they were surrounded … missiles streaked through the void as I believed the ship groaned under the assault. It dropped and swerved, its course upset … the tempo picked up … their fighters ejected and the hanger doors remained open. We dived like raptors …

Jumping off the table and onto the floor Ricardo took a fighters pose …

The crew of the Compass Rose have always been savage in battle, “Prepare for impact” was shouted by someone as the din of our shuttle’s screeching halt came to an end within the Soyuz’s bay … and now the boarding action … for all the good it will do them. These ships were made for one thing …. destruction of those on the outside … but not in the inside …

As we all jeered at the statement….

We had more than enough manpower and leadership to get the job done … we kept these bastards occupied long enough for reinforcements to arrive. There would be no bondsman ! …

Cheers rang out again from all present …

“We’re nearly through!” shouted an exuberant member of our crew as we breached the bridge and from there our victory was just a matter of time.

Imitating the Captain's walk the story continued …

Captain, Lacretia Mere Eglise walked gingerly onto her bridge, sabre in one hand pistol in the other as if the Daughter of Blakbeard himself had arrived … shooting dead the Clan Captain … one to the head …. then without a skip in time she turned to me and said, “Mister Vimont …. You know what to do?”, as if the order even needed to be made “Yes my Captain” I replied…. As her Joly Rodger was being emblazoned behind her new Captain’s Chair !!!….

Cheers rang out again and again …

… for the Clanners, humans were sent back to the Sphere … elementals still alive … they had another use … tomorrow was the Day of the Dead and the pit required fighters for the games … those that did not meet the whip that is!

Cheers and drink sprang anew as empty tankards were banged on the table of each member of the audience. Then the next to take the table began her story of the battle …. As she leapt upon the table … the battle for the new Corsair Black Rose ….

As told "allegedly" by a member of the The Black Rose Corsairs, a Ricardo Vimont ....
Get thee to Coventry … Now is the winter of our discontent, made glorious by this daughter of Tharkad … Our army shall march through. Well to New Avalon tonight.

Dearest CENSORED,

Unfortunately I was right,

Position, status, wealth and the ability to either intimidate or manipulate others by any means necessary has become my brother’s standard tactics …. he has become the by-product of our mother’s vengeance and revenge upon those who ended her ‘divine’ right to be coordinator … he never had the chance to find his true self and being able to let go of the past, there is such hatred in him.

His actions will now inspire others … he will favour conditions that will further his ultimate aim … he has become a rallying cry to all the disenfranchised, the former Confederation warriors … they are all now heading out to be with him, to regain their supposed past glories, it will now be a war to hunt down and crush this reengages resurgence …

Hate, vengeance and revenge have consumed him … when you really look at him, when he thinks no one is looking, you sometimes caught a glimpse of his true self … that of the fanatic … that is why I ensured he was watched at all times.

As for me, you healed me and I will not allow this to go any further, I have therefore decided to stay in the family business, that is the basic reason I became a mechwarrior.

I wanted to be the kind of person who defends, the kind of person who meddles when you do not have to, this is the essence of being a defender of the people … plus I enjoy meddling with you and CENSORED, say hi from me, OK.

By now you would have been informed as what transpired , we caught him just in time and ensured his plan was a failure … what as in the past should remain the past … we have no place for the failed Confederation in the present.

I was quick and yet not quick enough …

We were finally able to engage, as his ‘Mechs were forced to retreat back into the mountain ranges, though just as we thought they were cut off and surrounded, two companies that were able to infiltrate past the ridge threatened us with annihilation, I was forced to take command when the Captain’s ‘Mech fell Breaking through the envelopment I was forced to led them away from the main defensive line until reinforcements arrived.

However, by then he had evacuated off world …

I have therefore put my name forward to be part of the task force to bring him to heal, I know him and his methods, hopefully this will be over quickly before too much damage has been inflicted.

Your’s truly,

Censored

You cannot believe the Clan invasion is a good game!

It was the reason most of those within the group I was with gave up on the game when it first came out …

I can only contend that the Canon version of the Clan Invasion is the most insipid writing I have ever come across … this is why a second writing is required of the Clan invasion onwards … if this never changes I will stay in my pre-Clan age.

As I have stated before – the Clan War borders on the same logic as the FC not attacking the CC during the 3039 war – which shows is that no one on the writing team had any military training whatsoever – borders on the ridiculous …. Another Oops of the highest magnitude – they totally missed many the obvious.

And as for their cheating … I am not impressed

20 Year Update – Reduced IS Forces
Set the Clan rules – then when they realize they don’t work (ie they need more units) they cheat on that point
Don’t understand Japanese Honour – Turtle Bay
Don’t allow the IS to build RACs with Capital Missiles
During the Reconstruction Phase – Don’t allow the IS to establish new RCTs with the specific purpose of being anti-clan forces
During the Invasion – More IS omni-mechs + anti-elemental weapons (Anti-elemental sniper rifle with armour piercing rounds)
Going to Huntress and not taking all the information they had on their computer cores and returning to the IS with it – thus 20 years after this Clans and IS had a parity in technology across the board in most areas
Etc, Etc, Etc,

You want to change the reduced forces? Stop the 3039 war entirely.
The clans rules were set up so the writers had a way for the IS to stop them. Basically a tailor made enemy for the IS to defeat. Same thing all games do.
Turtle Bay. Reread the 1st succession wars again. Nukes were used to destroy planets on both sides of the FS/DC border. Turtle bay was nothing compared to that. So back up your argument to that time frame. Then argue the DC would never stop retaliating against the FS. And considering the DC was the first one to use them, your honor is out the window on the moral high ground.
Not sure where it said you can not build more RCTs, and the CC used the large aerospace forces in the succession wars. That didn't stop them from losing worlds.
The capital missile issue was actually a good thing to delay. Otherwise, it would be asked why they weren't used against all the houses in the IS. There would be even less forces, as the IS would be at war when the clans came in, and a lot more damage done using them.

IS omnis. Tech and ability to work with it, is the main reasons why they were not so useful. I agree it's just a way to hobble the IS to allow the clans to continue their superior ways with pod technology. Yet the Dragoons had this tech being used in their plainsman vehicles.
The lack of IS reaching parity with the clans is a sore point. The bs of expense is that. Bs. The heatsinks alone would be well worth the cost to produce, and bring down the prices. There is no doubt about that one.

Quote: You want to change the reduced forces? Stop the 3039 war entirely.

Fact, The twenty year update, however, indicated the following ‘Mech Regiments for each house - Deployment as at 3050…

Federated Commonwealth 268 Regiments , 1 Battalion

Breaking it down further the Federated Suns State Commands Mech Strength is 104 Regiments, 2 Battalions and the Lyran Command is at 154 Regiments, 1 Battalion Strength, of which …
RCT / main combat units 128
Militia 56
Training 24
Mercs remaining

However when you look at the 3062 reports we have …
Field Manual Federated Suns:
RCT 53
Militia 27
Training 16
Field Manual Lyran Alliance
RCT 54
Milita 21
Training 3
Total
RCT 107
Militia 48
Training 19

And this is during the rebuilding phase post Tukayyid ??? where are the new ‘Mech regiments required to fight the clan’s – they have brought in additional PGCs – isn’t the “missile gap” getting a bit big between the IS / Cans forces in the IS?

So the writers did not write this correctly, or were they just lazy? Both the FC (FS and LC) must have a dedicated Anti Clan forces armed with the best technology and people on top of these forces at a minimum of 15-20 RCTs each in preparation for when the truce ends … and if not why not?

AS for Capital Missiles – if they had Nuke Warheads or aerospace fighters all throughout the succession wars and the clan invasion then why was there no conventional warheads? Ans:- The game was written specifically from the point of view of the Mech Warrior and no thought was given to the aerospace pilot . Now looking back we ask ourselves why we cannot insert this and just replay he game 1st Aerospace then Land utilizing both Air and Land forces at the same time in an attempt to make it a little more realistic.

AS for IS Omnis – rather than build all the existing machines as per Tech Manuals the IS requires 20-30 different omni mechs …. And the technology gap … that is complete fabrication there should be a new set of updated weapon rules (Heat, Damage, Range etc) to bring the IS closer to that of the Clans by 3062

There are just too many plot holes that need fixing to make the game more enjoyable, as the gamers have hobbled the IS forces in the same way they hobbled the IS post 4SW but much worse…

Thus another demand for a rewrite …. We have had rules updates in other games so why not Battletech …. And at the same time rewrite the game’s history to make it more enjoyable as it stands there is nil to enjoy with the introduction of the Clans (especially when you are fighting against a team that does not bid low enough and makes it impossible to even have a chance of winning against)

You mean the writers finally realize that when you only build so many units, you can't just pop a few RTCs worth of mechs out? Like they made the FC RTCs for the fourth war?

You want to close the gaps, 3025 and later is too far into the future. You have to start with the bs in the League. All of these caches around the IS, and yet it sounded like they didn't have enough units when taking back earth from Amaris? Then the succession wars. Changing the rules during the fights, would change the outcome of alot of battles. Nukes against space stations is a good place to start.
Then the destruction of so many facilities, yet the League could rebuild their damaged units without issues?
And no one in any of the states would assist the SLDF against Amaris? That is like suggesting the world wars were only fought between 2 countries. Just not believable.

As for why capital missiles and even not having ground based anti capital ship weapons set up, before they did is bs. The IS warships had them. They would have had to be tested before even attempting to fit them on the ships. The border worlds should have had stations with capital weapons on them to guard jump points from invading ships. Other houses. Before the clans attacked. Yet nothing.
The holes in the actual game play is more of a problem then the poor writing or what happens.

3025?

I was making a point between 3050 and 3062 – 12 years, is therefore not too far into the future when comparing the two military TO&Es.

However, when you consider the rate of volume new 'mechs are being produced at new manufacturing facilities, one could almost say the IS has returned to the mass production techniques pre succession wars.

Thus you could say that each IS Great house has the ability to produce a sizeable new anti-clan RCT military units – it is just a pity the writers didn’t contemplate them- so another hole in the actual game play that needs fixing.

Succession Wars and Amaris Vs. SLDF?

Rebuilding forces depends upon those factories that are still operational + at that time their understanding of technology and mass production would have been infinitely superior to that of 3025 to 3050. So their ability to repair / increase their damaged units wouldn’t have taken that long.

As for the Amaris war – others were involved just not openly – suggest you read Archon Robert II strange logic that made him decide to refuse to help Kerensky (Pg. 40 House Steiner – The Lyran Commonwealth) as further on re the Loyalists then go through all the other books as it is a bit more complicated.

As for putting a station to guard the jump point – have a read re my idea of putting nuclear mines at the jump point – it was quickly shown to me that the jump point is a vast area hence the idea has no merit – I wold therefore assume the same would apply here – you would need hundreds / thousands even to guard the entire area – thus it is best to put it on a recharge station and have them come to you.

Quote: The holes in the actual game play is more of a problem then the poor writing or what happens.

This is why we need a second draft and then let the players decide which timeline they want to be in.

I was saying that even starting with 3025 is too far into the future if you want to start closing up the holes in the game. These holes need to be fixed before you could really deal with the 3000's onward.

The difference between mining the jump point and having a defense set up with stations means you can pick and choose what to go after, and wouldn't worry about incoming or even outgoing ships destroying the mines. You launch once you find out invading ships are in the area. Since it is a station, not a mobile ship, the monitor crap isn't there. Yes, the station is at risk for being destroyed with an invasion, but you stand the chance of taking out the invaders before they make land fall.

The Amaris war, makes it sound like a majority of the weapons factories were destroyed, or so heavily damaged, they needed major repairs before they would run right. Spare parts may be more of an issue with repairs, then getting new units. Both are needed.

There are a few possibilities on why the didn't or couldn't expand the military. One that comes to mind is the lack of people signing up that can do the job. Supposedly, not everyone has the ability to pilot mechs/aerofighters. With all the worlds available, this sounds wrong, but is possible.
The numbers of units made and units being filled to capacity has always been an issue. They just don't match up with their own fluff. The production of units barely matched those lost in combat?

Then comes the actual max output of the factories. If they were chugging along at top speed all the time, and could barely keep up with losses, then that could be why they didn't/couldn't expand. Resources could well have slowed the production as well, since fusion engines were supposed to be so limited, they were pulling them out of vehicles. Without hard numbers, there is no answer.

Again read my posting re mines – a jump point is a massive area – even the clans wouldn’t have a radar / detection equipment that could scan the entire area of a jump point – the only way these become viable is is you put them in a geo synchronous orbit around the planet in question as a deterrent against invaders.

It wasn’t until the succession wars that the majority of factories were disabled.

QUOTE: …. why the didn't or couldn't expand the military. One that comes to mind is the lack of people signing up that can do the job.

National Service / Conscription …. Your pulling at straws …. Pre 4SW being a MechWarrior was seen as only for the elites of society …. Remember Hanse Davion’s great experiment …. Justin Xiang Allard’s training unit, when he lost his arm ring a bell? Post 3050 ?

QUOTE: … The production of units barely matched those lost in combat?

Perhaps pre 3040 there was a scarcity of resources, however, after this it begins to change to that of mass-production (consider the number of new Mech types post 3050 and the quantity of each type that is being produced …. Mass-production).
So again post 3050 successor states there is a massive shift in all the great houses economies and technological levels.

Thus they could have quite easily established 30 new RCTs each specifically designed for anti-Clan operations.

Thus we have another ‘Oops Moment’ for the writers in hamstringing the IS when they are engaged in a long term war with the Clans.

Is it just me or are there similarities between how the Clan War operated and that of WWII …. Could we say there are similarities between the two?

Clans: How earily similar they are to pre-WWII Germany

Clans: Their Initial Invasion drive through the Inner Sphere;
WWII: The Blitzkrieg from Poland to France and for the RR Operation Barbarossa

Inner Sphere: The recreation of the Star League
WWII: Big Three Conferences

Inner Sphere: Operation Bulldog
WWII: The Italy Campaign

Inner Sphere: Operation Serpent
WWII: Operation Market Garden (A Bridge too Far) with Victor acting as the head of 30 Corp coming to the rescue.

However with the clans it was decided to allow Germany to remain in control of France etc,

There was no Battle of Brittan (air power vs air power)

There was no D-Day Landings (against Jade Falcon and Wolf)

The RR were unable to drive the clans out (like Russia)

And there were no drive upon Berlin – Strana Mechty

Also there was no pacific Campaign – a fight against Clan Warships via Navy Pilots etc

There was no Africa Campaign – Fighting the Clans in the Periphery for Supply routes and Supply Depos. (The Suez Canal)

Was this the initial blue print for the Clan Wars yet due to unforeseen circumstances they decided to modify the Battletech campaign? Too Costly – Too Many books to do it properly thus cuts had to be made?
