So I am thinking this might be a good CapCon mech or FWL mech.

I had to wiki the name, it is Unseen as to who would produce that mech . And Wow was it ugly as hell, exactly how many mech images did BT use from this series anyway? Harmony Gold bitchen about like 3 I think, but the anime series you took inspiration from is like the majority of the 3025 original TRO plus some Macross thrown in....I don't think I ever watched this particular series as a kid.

There was a time - up to 2 months ago - where I would've been dismissive of small lasers. However, I have been traumatized and had my confidence ruined by a friend's design that could be summarized as "Death By Small Lasers" (DBSL).

Therefore, this pack of crit-finding SRMs and small lasers now impresses me.

The two things that'd worry me about the design are 1) rather slow to bring those short-ranged weapons into play, since the DBSL 'Mechs I've faced live and thrive on high speed, and 2) 10 SHS with a weapons array of that begs to be used in constant alpha strikes. It'd take a player with good heat discipline to use this well.

While I agree the speed is a little slow, it is possible to make it work. The heat management though, tougher to pull off. You could drop one SRM down to a 4, and get a heatsink in the ton you save. Or knock both down to 4s, share one ton of ammo and add 3 heastsinks. Neither one will solve the heat management, but will ease the load off.

As it is, I would treat it like a Phoenix Hawk; you only touch that large laser occassionally. In this case, when you're at point blank, fingers off the medium laser trigger, small lasers and SRMs only.

It feels more like a CapCon mech. Not sure why. But I would prefer it if it were a FWL mech.

Was thinking about Karagins design and something was nagging at me that it looked familar

The Cabarov from the anime series

The Daiymo looks like it gains some inspiration from the Cabarov, and the Assassin has a similar profile with the head and shoulders which is smaller but has arms instead of those ugly chicken wings.

Defunct CapCon design, but transferred the blueprints with the Kapteyn Accords to Kurita and Marik (Assassin was popular with the Marik Militia according to the fluff), Marik is more interested in it and produces the Cabarov as it was so similar to the Assassin. Kurita keeps the design in archives and eventually pulls it out, completely redesigning it when the Clans come around to produce the Daiymo.

Interesting ideas for the fluff for the mech, thanks guys. Yes it's a heat nightmare, but it can be managed if you play it right, it's not the mech that will be on the news as the "hero's" mech, but it will be the one slugging it out in the fight.

Yes Reiter I did base the mech off the artwork as you posted.

I'm going to take this design and use it for my megamek games. And as is too.
Just curious though, why did you decide to go with 45 tons? Does anyone have a picture of the mech from a top down view? I can glean enough info to make a passable sprite from the picture on here at least, but it might not be that accurate.

I want to share it with my group, but I'll give credit where it is due and make sure they know it is your design.

45 tons seemed to be what the picture looked like to me, so I went it, given how the armament wasn't like massive cannons and such.
