(Note this alternate history is supposed to be a response to my two previous forum posts – Alt. History Operation Rat Revival – The Capellan’s Fall War (3039-40) and the new FC Capital World and that also of Alt. History: Free Worlds League 3035 onwards)

Setting:

The Inner Sphere ….
Post 4th Succession War
3030 the Duchy of Andurien succeeded from the Free Worlds League, allying itself with the Magistracy of Canopus
3039-40 War resulted in the fall of the Capellan Confederation
Sun-Tzu Liao and His Sister Kali Liao were both spirited away to the St. Ives Ives Compact to live with their Aunt Candace Liao and their family.
From 3035 to 3043 The Free worlds League was involved in a bitter Civil War
3043 Corinne Marik has become the Captain General of the Free Worlds League
She has subsequently recognised the independence of the Magistracy-Andurien Alliance

Whilst this has occurred the Draconis combine was having its own Issues:
3033 Comstar’s Leader, Waterly, met with Takashi's Heir-designate, Gunji-no-Kanrei Theodore Kurita, on Dieron to discuss Operation Rosebud.
Early 3034 Theodore Kurita makes an alliance with the Yakuza, which leads to the formation of the so-called Ghost Regiments.
(In the proceeding years 13 Ghost Regiments, together with their Star League Era Mechs, were established and hidden within the Draconis Combine)
3034 Rasalhague's proclamation of independence.
This was quickly recognized by ComStar and the Draconis Combine.
Some Kuritan troops refused to obey Theodore's orders regarding Rasalhague, he crushed them in the Ronin War.
(By 3038 all 13 Ghost regiments had been established and were undergoing extensive training)
Takashi Kurita reluctantly transferred power to his son Theodore ….
As per the Wiki …” The years from 3040 to 3047 were, in many ways, a golden era for the Combine. For the first time in years, the leadership was at least somewhat united, and the military was growing stronger and more united than it had been in decades with Theodore's new policies, and there was relative peace on the Combine's borders”.

Time 3045:
Concerned as to the growing relationship between the Federated Commonwealth and the Free Worlds Leage, including the supposition that Hanse is going to offer to Corinne Marik the hand of his eldest son Victor Steiner-Davion . Thus taking one step closer to a Star League (and without the Draconis Combine or House Kurita due to a Hanse initiating a War to remove them also, as they did with the Capellans)

Operation Zero is conceived.

A House Kurita ISF agent is dispatched, she becomes “good” friends with Tormano Liao (and by extension the Free Capella Movement).
She was able reminded him of a great injustice done to the Capellan people by Federated Commonwealth, when in 3031 with the death of Pavel Ridzik the Tikonov Free Republic was disbanded and became a minor administrative district within the Sarna March. And, to add insult to injury they (The Federated Commonwealth) established their new Capitol world of Anschluss (German for joining) upon one of these worlds.
Stoking his desire to reform the Capellan confederation she planted the idea that the Free Capella Movement needed a figurehead – and also that of powerful ‘friends’ who could assist them.

Time 3047:
A 16 year old Sun-Tzu Liao, who is on St. Ives, within St. Ives Compact, has …. As his Aunt would put it “surrounded himself with the wrong kind of friends,” …. Unbeknown to him most are members of the Free Capella Movement ….
Sometime in 3047 with the assistance of his ‘friends’ Sun-Tzu Liao and Tormano Liao have a secret meeting in which the ‘discussion’ regards his future and how some of Tormano’s “friends” could assist him to becoming what he was destined “By Heaven” to be …. The Coordinator of a new Capellan Confederation.
Sun-Tzu shortly thereafter disappears from St.Ives and finds himself within on the Draconis Combine world of Dieron. There, without going into specifics Theodore Kurita and Tormano Liao outline their plan to re-establish the Tikonov Free Republic (Later to be called the Capellan Hegemony).

Time 3048:
Sun-Tzu resurfaces within the Terran Corridor as the leader of the Free Capella Movement Calling for the reestablishment of the Tikonov Free Republic. Multiple acts of terrorism are committed throughout the area against Government Agencies and Military targets of opportunity as the Free Capella Movement strikes.
At the same time Theodore Kurita and the DCMS are able to catch the Federated Commonwealth unprepared as “the Kuritan’s had patched together a command circuit that allowed their troops to penetrate the heart of the Terran Corridor. Operating between the many un-colonized systems separating Combine and Federated Suns space, this chain of Jump-ships contained more yakuza merchant vessels than military ships.”
“It was a stunning blow a full scale invasion by the “Ghost Regiments”.

(P. 31 – 20 year update # 1639)

Outcome?
Will the Capellan Hegemony become a reality, thus separating the Federated Commonwealth back into its original two constituents - Lyran Commonwealth and Federated Suns, and thus establishing a new Capellan State under the leadership of Coordinator Sun Tzu Liao?

Does this war expand into a 5th Succession War?

How will it end?

Suggestions?
A New Capellan State?
You may choose only one
Yes
No

(In the preceding years 13 Ghost Regiments, together with their Star League Era Mechs, were established and hidden within the Draconis Combine). I would think you meant proceeding. Otherwise it would mean they were done before the alliance was made.

How does the fact the 3039 war was not against the DC affect their troop numbers?
This might change what mechs the DC makes, as they did take a few mech plants in that war.

As much as it sounds plausible, having the war happen hobbles the IS when the clans invade. That is if they still do.
Technically, the clans were setting up their invasion during 3048.
Would the FWL help resist the invasion of the Terran area? Would they help it?
Or would they suffer the same thing as the DC did with the FRR? More then a few organizations would use this to create trouble, possibly even trying to leave the FWL. Simply siding with the DC/CC might be enough for the DC and possibly Comstar to recognize any and all breaking free.

And that doesn't cover Free Skye people.

Further thought came up, and the 20 year update would need to be tossed after the Andurien crisis.
Even the numbers for the FWL would be dramatically altered.
The FC would lose some troops to the CC, but nothing close as the DC war did in the canon version.
As noted above, the DC would not have lost units in the 3039 war. So when the clans invaded, or if you go with them helping make the TFR, their numbers would be different then in the update. Then again, it may also affect how many FC troops are in that area.
Spec op raids. Worker sabotage. Strikes and such. They may be further from Terra, but available if needed.

QUESTION: How does the fact the 3039 war was not against the DC affect their troop numbers?

Pre War:Troop numbers remain constant (with the exclusion of the Ghost Regiments) Mechs will vary due to access to factory access etc - Post war this will be different though (once I have finished writing this war)

QUESTION: Technically, the clans were setting up their invasion during 3048.

Ah, but did they? More Alt to come re this arc story.

QUESTION: Would the FWL help resist the invasion of the Terran area? Would they help it?

No, they stay out of it and remain neutral.

QUESTION: Or would they suffer the same thing as the DC did with the FRR? More then a few organizations would use this to create trouble, possibly even trying to leave the FWL. Simply siding with the DC/CC might be enough for the DC and possibly Comstar to recognize any and all breaking free.

Additional story to come – watch this space.

QUESTION: Free Skye people

With an attack upon the Capitol World by the Draconis Combine – they will shut up and get behind the war – Side Battles occur – Sky will attack the Thumb (Alphecca / Skondia) and annex them from the Draconis Combine. (Thus removing the Sword of Damocles over their heads).

Question for you: Is this an enjoyable story so far - are there any area(s) that need to be changed in your opinion to make it more enjoyable - there are many areas a Mercenary can get involved, do you think those who run as a merc. unit would enjoy running these three alternate arcs?

Three Scenarios by the Federated Commonwealth were to be considered … as the invasion became an all too real nightmare for the Fedrated Commonwealth …
1. The Successful Establishment of the Capellan Hegemony ; The Federated Commonwealth entities that of the Suns and Commonwealth are no longer connected through the Corridor.
2. A Partial Establishment of the Capellan Hegemony; The Federated Commonwealth entities that of the Suns and Commonwealth remain connected, though through a reduced number of systems. and
3. They are unsuccessful – their invasion force retreats back over and into Draconis Combine Space; The Federated Commonwealth repulses the Combine’s invasion.

As the Draconis Combine’s Ghost Regiments invaded Federated Commonwealth space within the Terra Corridor it was reported that Hanse Davion made the following quote, “We will always oppose the effort of the Combine to conquer, We will do this because our own security is at stake, we will seek no wider war …. at this time”.

First Wave:-
The Draconis Combine invasion of the Federated Commonwealth was designed to use their elite units to seize and envelop multiple planets within the Corridor, with the aim of holding an area of space until reinforced – thus ensuring the area’s annexation.

The area of the invasion was to include all the worlds of the previous Tikonov Republic, as well as seven other Draconis March Worlds that would, with their capture, connect the new Capellan Hegemonny to that of the Draconis Combine – These worlds included Caph, Fomalhaut, Saffel, Northwind, Quentin, Errai and Helen.

Striking planets along their projected borders and others deeper in the new Hegemony, the Combine Forces initially were able to capture many worlds meeting minor resistance. Whilst Sun-Tzu’s words inspired many former Capellans to abandon the Federated Commonwealth and defect to his cause because of that of his name and lineage alone, civil war erupted throughout the entire area as chaos gripped one world after another.

On Northwind the famous Nortwind Highlanders fought one against the other as old patriotic sentiments and new allegiances clashed one against the other.

Those Federated Commonwealth Garrisons within the war zone soon found themselves isolated upon increasingly hostile worlds as not only were they becoming besieged by Combine forces, civilians also began insurgent activities against them (Though many of these activities were later to be uncovered to be that of Free Cappella).

As the second Combine wave descended, people throughout the Inner Sphere bean referring to the area as the Chaos Mach as friend and foe were becoming harder and harder to identify and the War became referred to as that of the Ghost’s War.

Martial Law however gripped all former Confederation worlds, now within the Federated Commonwealth, lest Sun-Tzu’s words inspire additional outbreaks of insurgency.

Counterthrust:-
Theodore Kurita anticipating a counter-attack ordered his forces to prepare for Hanse Davion’s counterattack. However when Field Marshal Nondi Steiner’s forces jumped into the the middle of the Hegemony war zone (The Chaos March) and was quickly followed by Hanse Davion’s forces attacking along the war’s border . It was a stunning blow as the Federated Commonwealth’s offensive caught many in the midst of being ill prepared by this counter offensive. However with the introduction of previously unknown Kurita units and previously unknown Star League Mechs many of the advances began to stall.

Theodore Kurita himself, together with his Genyosha, invaded the Federated Commonwealth’s new Capitol world of Anschluss.

However, to meet the threat Hanse and Katrina each called upon a second wave and prepared them as best they could with historical documents concerning the new Star League Mechs that were at the disposal of the Combine troops together with all the intelligence they could gather about these previously unknown units.

When it became known that the pilots of these Star League Mechs and their units were not regular DCMS, that they were in fact yakuza who were fighting on the behalf of the Draconis Combine the vigour of the Federated Commonwealth Military once more returned.

The ferocity and speed of the Federated Commonwealth when fighting these non-regular military yakuza broke many a unit forcing them to retreat off world, whilst many of their compatriots and ‘Mechs were quickly captured.

When it became known that Wolfs Dragoons, located on Outreach had also joined the war against the Draconis Combine this new threat to the Draconis Combine plan forced Theodore to retreat form many worlds including that of Anschluss and that of Northwind as the Steiner-Davion forces had regained the upper hand once more on these two valuable worlds. He thus quickly decided to consolidate his victory and assumed a defensive posture as best he could on those worlds already captured.

By years end the war had settled down, The Draconis Combine Invasion of the Federated Commonwealth was considered to be a partial success, with only half the worlds they expected captured, and the Corridor itself was still open (though minimising the number of systems connecting the two realms of the Federated Commonwealth to those adjacent the border of the Free Worlds League and those worlds below and including the world of Outreach).

Sun-Tzu Liao, with the backing of the Draconis Combine, re-established his position as Coordinator of the Capellan Hegemony upon his new capitol world of New Home, of which he quickly renamed New Sian.

With the war ending all did not go the way as Thomas had planned as he watched CMM ….

“….. On Marik tonight , we can report now that the Capitan-General Corinne Marik is safe and unharmed. …. At approximately 1:35 am last night armed assailants attempted to gain access the Captain-General’s Household, where a running battle between these assailants and the household guards was fought over the next 15 minutes, however they were finally stopped as the Household Guard put an end to their armed incursion … however at a great cost … Corinne’s father, paid the ultimate price whilst leading the final defence ….”

(Later it would become clear that the assassins were DEST agents ….)

The troop numbers in the book were after the 3039 war. That means all the units that were destroyed in that war, would be alive and well for the invasion section.
And that means coming up with hard numbers for who dies, and who survive.
And worse, production numbers for everything.
Mechs, fighters, vehicles, as well as how many soldiers each academy or school can put out in a year, as well as their skill levels, as some will be better trained then others.

Martial Law however gripped all former Combine worlds. I will assume you meant Confederation worlds, not Combine.

Any response from Comstar? Such as intel given to the DC?
Slow or even with holding messages to and in the FC?

Did the FC take any DC worlds other then the thumb?
And for some reason, I don't think Hanse would leave those worlds outside FC control. I think he would not have stopped the war, but toned it down. As the DC would not be in ownership of the CH, they could not really complain as the FC took back those worlds. Granted, the DC would garrison those worlds they best they could as the new CH would not have many, if any, forces to even begin to repel the FC.
I would think he would start trying to do move then the thumb, but resources may be the thing to stop that.
One more point that would need to be addressed. The black boxes. It was the 3039 war they acquired some. Does that happen here?

Even more questions come up.
Does the Skye Rebellion go off on time?
As there are alot of mercs that work for Steiner and Davion would say, The Kell Hounds, Battle Magic, Team Bonzai, Hanson's Roughriders, The Grey Death Legion, as well as others be sent to fight the DC invasion?
As a side note, it is very unlikely Phelan Ward would be pirate hunting even a few years afterwards, maybe even longer then you delay the clans coming in if the Kell Hound were part of this.
Richard Steiner would not have been talking the Theodore during the 3039 invasion, so he would never become Focht.
That is going to change the clan invasion quite a bit, and even may keep Victor out of Comstar.

And I will assume the Comstar Shadow war was running, as the FC intel should pick up on the League mechs as well as the ghost regiments before they invade.

And there is another point about some of the DC forces. Genyosha regiments were supposed to be elite warriors. What units were they taken from, as it may well decrease the levels of say even the sword of light regiments.

And with the revised plan for the clans, did the FC start their aero regiment building at or before this time? Those forces would change some of the battles here.

Alternate ending to the re-establishment of the Capellan Confederation, by the Draconis Combine, during the the war for the Terran Corridor.

Sun-Tzu Liao together with Tormano Liao are awaiting the arrival of their guest within his palatial residence.

There he considers his next steps, with the backing of the Draconis Combine he is the Coordinator of the Capellan Hegemony.

The new capitol world will be New Home, of which he quickly rename New Sian.

Then what, he is still a puppet … he thus muses over how to gain his independence and how to build a sizeable army that will ensure this ….

At this point a maid announces that his guest has arrived ….. his sister has joined him …. As Tormano and the Free Capella Movement had informed him of his sisters defection from St. Ives … to him … a situation that pleases him no end.

As she walks into the room full of confidence, Sun Tzu realizes something is wrong …. Yet he does not know what it is.

Then it begins … her Red Lancers special infantry attack the palatial residence, quickly taking control ….

…. As the DCMS security forces finally arrive, after receiving an alert, there they find both Sun-Tzu and Tormano’s lifeless bodies … both have received a bullet to the back of the head ….

And Now to answer your Questions …

QUESTION: the Skye Rebellion go off on time?

What rebellion?

Question: Mercenaries

If they are available and close to the Terran Corridor – yes you can include them in the war – their contracts clauses that allow them to be uses in a time of crisis for war are activated.

QUESTION: Phelan Ward

Yes, he can still be out there – now in command of his own unit.

QUESTION:

Yes he can still invade a staging area for the war – having been captured whilst allowing his men to escape Theodore keeps him – later giving him to ComStar so that Focht lives.

QUESTION: Victor out of Clan War

Who says that victor should be given command …. How about Corinne Marik (Cometh the hour Cometh the Woman) ……..she has lived through a civil war

What has Victor done in my Alt World in comparison?

At the start of the Clan Invasion in 3060 (My Alt. History) they could even be a married couple …. She could be his commanding officer …. Just think about their home life ……

QUESTION: Genyosha

They came from Sword of Light Units who were given graduates from Military Academies to replace their lost numbers.

QUESTION: FC start their aero regiment

During the FWL Civil War they started using multiple Vengeance Class Dropships to defend worlds – Hanse recognised the strategic importance of this and established his own RACTS shortly thereafter

Then Operation Galahad Mk 2 or 3 war games proved the strategic and tactical flexibility they could be utilized in …..

Thus they then became a permanent addition to the FC TO&E …..
Get thee to Coventry … Now is the winter of our discontent, made glorious by this daughter of Tharkad … Our army shall march through. Well to New Avalon tonight.
