On 1 June 3035, Janos Marik, now recovered from his stroke, called a meeting to discuss the fate of the rebal Andurien Duchy. Present at the meeting were Janos’ two sons, Duggan and Thomas, and their cousin Duncan, as well as several representatives from the diplomatic corps. Not long after the meeting began, a bomb hidden in a portable holo-table exploded, killing the Captain-General, only Thomas who was critically injured was rushed to a hospital where his condition was stabilized. Duncan Marik narrowly escaped death after being called from the room on an urgent matter just minutes before the blast.

(Nt: He was not able to be smuggled out to the care of a ComStar hospital – The entire palace (and Planet) would have been locked down immediately upon the explosion (consider the number of guards at any Capitol building). Also if the explosion was within a Brick/stone room the explosion’s pressure waive would have killed everyone in the room – only a wooden room (or very large room for the pressure wave to dissipate) would the pressure waive not killed everyone – Look at the scientific research re: the attempted assassination of Hitler – Operation Valkyrie / even a small explosive the pressure wave should have killed Thomas. Also forensics should have determined who was who in the aftermath of the explosion thus they should have known that Thomas’s body was not there from the amount of body parts …. as would have been required for the state funeral).

When Thomas died of complications due to injuries sustained Duncan Marik assumed the Captain-Generalcy by right of rank and experience.

By order of succession, Paul Marik, Duncan’s shy older brother in the Ministry of Intelligence, should, technically, have taken the reins of power but Paul supported his younger brother.

(Law – line of succession is very clear after Paul it should go to his eldest child and not Duncan – thus Duncan could not assume the role of Capt.-Gen. The Captain- General, therefore would be Capt. Corinne Marik by right of succession (Birth / Marriage – look at the British Windsors) i.e. … thus following the death of Janos Marik, a power struggle over the line of succession ensures ……therefore, in this case Civil War (again) as some would not abide Duncan as Capt.-Gen. – and they would see Corinne as a more malleable Capt.-Gen. – they would denounce Duncan as he is Usurping the throne for his own ends)

After the quickest of investigations, the new Captain- General announced that Andurien agents were responsible for the assassination , and he subsequently declared war on the Duchy of Andurien. Despite his experience as commander of the Marik Militia, Duncan’s hope for a quick and glorious conquest soon became mired in a series of costly battles with no clear winner.

Duncan Marik died on February 4, 3037, while leading an attack against Andurien ‘Mechs on Xanthe III. His death and the poor planning for the offensive left the League’s invasion of Andurien in danger of collapse.

Li Weaver, now had a choice in the succession of the Captain-General ….
Paul Marik – Duncan’s older brother who supported his younger brother – who had been a harsh leader, with little tact or diplomacy;

Captain Corinne Marik – the daughter of Paul Marik; and
Kristen Marik – Janos Marik’s daughter and Paul’s sister – a commander of the mercenary unit Kristen’s Krushers.
As Paul continued to refuse the position the Captain-Generalcy was transferred to the second in line Captain Corinne Marik.

Corinne Marik together with Li Weaver used her ascension to the Captain-Generalcy of the Free Worlds League to further centralize political power in the Marik family by passing an Addendum to the Incorporation, eliminating the Home Defence Act, which had paralized the League’s Military for so long.

She then announced that she was leaving for Atreus to begin talks with the ageing Dame Catherine Humphreys. By April 3037 the Andurien-Canopian Alliance was recognised by the Free World’s League, together with a self defence alliance in the event of an attack.
Betelgeuse was further reinforced by the FWL, and favourable trading status / tax exemptions are recognised between the two states.

(Note:- If Thomas did survive …. His ability to pass the Addendum to the Incorporation … a far reaching piece of legislation repealed the Home Defense Act and give the Captaibe drawn against him to stop him being Dictator for life over the Roman Empire …. i.e. n- General de facto veto power over any law enacted by parliament or any provincial government … consider him now to be Gaius Julius Caesar …. And yes the knives will The Free World’s League … politicians would only give up their power at the end of a gun and then some would not …. Result another civil war to remove a dictator from being the Captain-General).

So How can Thomas …

Survive a bomb;
Survive the bomb’s shock wave;
No forensic examination whatsoever of the bomb blast / bodies;
Official funeral – whom did they bury if it wasn’t Thomas;
Escape a locked down building and city – whilst being transported to a ComStar Compound;
Evacuated to hidden ComStar World for emergency medical treatment;
Return with a double in toe to reassume the throne after being thought to be deceased.
Pass a DNA Test / people asking him questions to make sure it is the correct Thomas and not a double?

You would have to be very lucky …. Extra-ordinarily so ….

Whilst at the same time …

How can you skip the legal line of succession again from the next in line to his cousin when the younger brother to Thomas had children?

By right of position and experience?
Get thee to Coventry … Now is the winter of our discontent, made glorious by this daughter of Tharkad … Our army shall march through. Well to New Avalon tonight.

And now for something completely different ….

Alternate World Posting regarding the Free Worlds League Civil War:-

*** Nt: much of the information contained in this post has been lifted from various Battletech Books to ensure accuracy at the beginning and the end ***

A House divided:-

In September 3030 the Duchy of Andurien succeeded from the Free Worlds League, allying itself with the Magistracy of Canopus, a Periphery state on the rim-ward border, whilst simultaneously annexing and garrisoning one of the League’s most strategically important worlds - Betelgeuse.

This important world, being a major Battlemech production centre, with over 20 commercial factory complexes which produced over 30-percent of all former Capellan consumer luxury goods (prior to the Fourth Succession War when it was still a Confederation World).

In response to the succession The Free World League’s Parliament passed the Internal Emergency Act of 3030, as allowing Andurien worlds to remain independent was considered to set a dangerous precedent; This legislation stripped many minor provinces of their sovereignty “for the duration of the emergency”, to keep other League provinces from following Andurien’s example.

In addition to Andurien several worlds individually rejected the Emergency Act and seceded from the League. With the timely assistance of the Black Widow Battalion of Wolf’s Dragoons, these worlds held on to their independence until they voluntarily re-joined the League in 3040.

In late 3030 Janos Marik suffered a stroke due to the stress of the Fourth Succession War and now Andurien’s succession. This paralysed the Free Worlds League and prevented an immediate military response to the Andurien Crisis. Thomas Marik, who had been serving as a ComStar acolyte returned to the League within weeks of his father’s collapse, taking the regents position until Janos Marik recovered in 3035. Thomas proved an effective, if somewhat cautious ruler, choosing to consolidate his power rather than launching a military action.

With Janos’ return to power on 1 June 3035 called a meeting to discuss the fate of the rebel Duchy. Present at the meeting were Janos’ two sons Duggon and Thomas and their cousin Duncan as well as several representatives from the Diplomatic Corps. Not long after the meeting began a bomb hidden in a portable holo-table exploded, killing everyone except Thomas and Duncan.

Thomas, who was critically injured, was rushed to closest hospital however his injuries proved to be too extensive, he died from complications shortly thereafter.

Duncan, however, narrowly escaped death after being called from the room on an urgent matter just minutes before the blast.

The Free Worlds League found itself in a crisis bereft of its Captain-General.

Li Weaver, Speaker of parliament, promptly offered the position to Paul Marik, the next in line of succession – he refused – suggesting his younger brother, Duncan Marik, who by rank and military experience should be offered the position.

Though upon Duncan’s recommendation to the position of Captain-General Li Weaver, a shrewd politician, cited the Rules of Succession Act and the Captain-Generalcy was thus transferred to the only legitimate member in line – and in so doing ensuring Duncan would not be the next Captain-General. Li Weaver declared Paul’s twelve year old daughter, Corinne Marik, the new Captain- General of the Free Wolds League.

A council of Regents was quickly proposed until Corinne was of age, and a position was even offered to Duncan Marik as the Regent responsible for Commanding the Military. Though, at the same time, some within both the Military and Parliament were unwilling to countenance such a position be given to a child even if she was legally the next in line for Succession and nine days later Duncan’s supporters abandoned Marik, changed sides and proclaiming Duncan the rightful Captain General.

Civil War:–

The Civil War between that of Parliament’s forces and Duncan’s began as the year came to a close, though many within the the Military adopted a wait and see approach, not willing to declare for either party, as the level of uncertainty grew, even with a declaration of Civil War,

Those initially declaring for Parliament and Corinne Marik included, ….
Unit and Location
1st Free Worlds Guards; Marik
Iron Guards; Hemilton
Steel Guards; New Olympia
Falcons; Dubhe
Gryphons; Kalidasa
1st Atrean Dragoons; McKenna
11th Atrean Dragoons; Matheran
12th Atrean Dragoons; Vanra

Those initially declaring for Duncan Marik included, ….
Unit and Location
4th Oriente Hussars; Atreus
1st Regulan Hussars; Regulus
2nd Regulan Hussars; Avior
4th Regulan Hussars; Tiber
5th Regulan Hussars; Chertan
9th Regulan Hussars; McAffe
13th Marik Militia; Irian
18th Marik Militia; Connaught
23rd Marik Militia; Merak
31st Marik Militia; Cascade

Opening Battles:- (December 3035 – Early February 3036)

***note – many of these battle descriptions are transcribed from the English Civil War of 1643+ ***

New Olympia Battle
Duncan - 4th Oriente Hussars and 1st Regulan Hussars
Corinne - Steel Guards

The two armies met outside the Adwalton City, an open woodland area that included fields enclosed by fences and hedges. The Steel Guards attempted to adopt a defensive position and initially withstood several assaults by Duncan’s forces. However, when a Steel Guard Company commander decided to pursue Duncan’s forces, rather than maintaining their defensive line, Duncan’s forces were able to split the Steel Guards forces forcing them to retreat.

Avior Battle
Duncan - 2nd Regulan Hussars and 4th Regulan Hussars
Corinne - 11th Atrean Dragoons and 12th Atrean Dragoons

Parliament’s Regiments had managed to push back the 2nd Hussars, knowing they were in a bad way and having seen them fleeing he decided to stop his forces and allow re-armament before mounting a final assault. What they did not know was that the 2nd had turned North to seek help from the 4th.
Parliaments forces were the first to charge, and for some reason they held firm until the 4th Attacjed from behind. Caught between two forces the majority of the Parliamentarian Units simply fled from the battlefield.

Chertan Battle
Duncan - 5th Regulan Hussars
Corinne – Falcons and Gryphons

Duncan’s forces were forced into a defensive position upon the top of Round Hill covered with many obstacles making it difficult for an effective frontal assault. Parliaments forces suffered losses and were pushed back upon the first two engagements, however upon the third the parliamentarians were able to defeat the 5th Regulan Hussars and thus becoming the first victory for Parliament.

The 1st Battle of Marik
Duncan - 18th Marik Militia and 23rd Marik Militia
Corinne - 1st Free Worlds Guards and Iron Guards

Having the 1st Regulan Hussars pursue the defeated Parliament forces, Duncan and the 4th Oriente Hussars continued on towards Marik.

Initially the battle on Marik was evenly fought as neither side was able to gain the upper hand. However with the introduction of Duncan and the 4th Oriente Hussars the combined Paliamentarians were outnumbered by Duncan’s forces, they decided to fight anyway.
Duncan was able to catch the Parliamentary forces unprepared and had been beaten back.
Corinne Marik and her cabinet were forced to flee Marik with the 1st Free World League Guard.

Marik Civil War: An Overview:-

Fought between 3035-3044, The Free Worlds League Civil War saw the Chief of the Army Duncan Marik battle Parliament and the legitimate Captain-General, Corinne Mark, for the right to be called the ‘true’ Captain General of the Free Worlds League.

During the early phases of the war Duncan’s forces won early victories including that of the capitol Planet, Marik. As this was occurring, to her regret Corinne evacuated with her Army, however, her father refused to follow her into exile and remained upon Marik – thus abandoning her to her fate.

As the conflict progressed Duncan unexpectedly expanded the war by attacking the Duchy of Andurien in mid 3036. Thus the aging Dame Catherine Humphries allowed Corinne’s Parliamentary forces safe haven with Andurien to form a united front against Duncan’s forces.

As the war continued in 3038 Dame Humphries arranged for Corrine Marik to disappear. Unbeknown to all she was spirited away into the Federated Commonwealth and onto New Avalon by her maid who was also an agent of the “Rabid Foxes”. There she was interviewed by First Prince Hanse Davion who had her enrolled into the NAIS College of Military Sciences, under an assumed identity - obtaining minor qualifications in economics and political science and a major as a ‘Mech-warrior.

Whilst on New Avalon she also become a close friend to that of the entire Davion family – especially to a young Victor Steiner-Davion who has formed a strong relationship with her.

However, during the following four years as Corinne was becoming a leader at NAIS the war within the Free Wolds League and Andurien continued on in an “on and off basis” without skipping a much of a beat at times, even as the Federated Commonwealth Invaded and conquered the Capellan Confederation during their war of 3039-40.

However, upon her graduation in late 3041 Corinne, with a mixed heart, returned to Andurian with Hanse Davion’s Graduation presents, her own battlemech – a Warhammer - and all the contracts to those mercenary units who decided to take up Hanse Davion’s offer of amnesty during the Capellan’s Fall War of 3039-3040.

Corinne Marik, together with her new mercenary forces, those Free Worlds League forces still loyal to her cause and that of the legitimate parliament and the forces of Andurien began a two year war to drive back Duncan’s forces and retake their Capitol, the planet of Marik.

Outcome:-

Upon Duncan’s demise at the hands of a now highly skilled Mechwarrior – that of Corinne Marik – during the final battle for Marik, she became the undisputed ruler of the Free Worlds League.

Corinne then used her succession to push through the Addendum to the Incorporation, a law that eliminated the Home Defence Act and swept away many of the existing constraints on the Captain General’s actions, and which had paralysed the League’s military for so long.

She then announced the establishment of multiple pacts with that of the Andurien–Canopus Alliance, recognising their independent state, a “free-trade-zone” between them and that of the Free Worlds League as well as a mutual defence treaty.

By 3045 Corinne had passed sweeping new powers, not the least of which was the right to veto any law deemed “contrary to the will of Captain-General”. Provincial sovereignty was abolished and the powers of all provincial leaders transferred to Parliament in regards to “culturally significant matters”.

In practice neither provincial authorities nor Parliament could command the FWLM units any longer. Therefore the young Captain-General, Corinne Marik, was ensuring that her military was now well on its way to becoming a united force.

Comstar Note:

Message to First Circuit ….. Grade Alpha 1 …. An increasing amount of communications between, whom we believe to be, Federated Commonwealth Agents upon Marik and that of New Avalon have been noticed during the recent ten months. ROM agents are still unaware as to what this communication could result in, especially considering the increasing political delegations between the State Departments of the Federated Commonwealth and that of the Free Worlds League …. Increases ROM activity has been implemented as per your authorized orders ……

Possible answer to Thomas passing the test, may well be ROM was able to alter the information, as well as interfer with the investigation. As the bomb was planted by the person who took over in the canon version, may well have ordered the investigation stopped or how it was put into the publics eye. Again. Possible.

Now for some extra info.
The duchy of Andurien was the major if not only producers of PPC in the FWL. I don't remember where I seen this. May have been in the Dragoons boos, but not sure.
The odd thing is, according to the Objective raids book, the FWL doesn't make PPCs. They have 2 worlds that started making the ERPPC.
If the information about the normal PPCs is true, that means the FWL has not production inside their borders.
How does this affect the future, say when they make the weapons to fight the clans? Or even fix any PPCs destroyed, or maybe even damaged. No parts.

As I assume there will be more added to the alt history,
The issue with the FC invading the CC during the 3039 war has a large impact on things in this history.
Namely, the FC is in a position to actually help and annex Andurien. What happens when the get near the Duchy?
And as Betelgeuse was a CC world to being with, does the FC take it?
Or do they recognize the Duchy's possession of it?
Even further, does the FC take advantage of the FWL chaos and invade a few of their worlds outside of the Duchy question?

The main character, within the Battletech Universe, I enjoyed immensely reading about was that of Hanse Davion (The Fox) …. A very apt. nick name .... when you consider the labyrinthine plots he wove and the military action he took. You knew right from the start if you were up against him you would have to go for the throat very quickly because if you didn’t he would!

So first thing you have to ask is what game(s) is he playing …. And what end objective(s) is he after …. Remember they may not be as obvious as you first believe.

So to provide answers ….

With the annexation of the Capellan Confederation …. The obvious answers would be …

No, he takes no action in invading Andurien, he recognizes their right to Betelgeuse – and assists them militarily with “refit packages” / “support packages” to keep them in the game. Thus he normalizes the border between the two realms .

During all of the Chaos Hanse and Katrina do conduct “an exorbitant” amount of raids within Duncan’s side of the Free World’s League – therefore, forcing him to limit the amount of units he can transfer to the Andurien front at any one time. Thus the Civil War drags on and on …. whilst a certain someone is at school ….

A question to be considering is the age gap between Hanse and his wife Melissa when they were married … 27 years …. So, what about that of Corinne and Victor given that she is only 7 years older than him?

You should also be considering how would the Draconic Combine react to a this growing familiarity between the Free Worlds League and that of the Federated Commonwealth …. One more step closer to a new Star League … The Federated Commonwealth conquers the Free Worlds League via another Wedding …. Will then Victor promise his wife, as his father did, their realm as a wedding toast … The Draconis Combine have a lot to fear now ….. and their response?
Get thee to Coventry … Now is the winter of our discontent, made glorious by this daughter of Tharkad … Our army shall march through. Well to New Avalon tonight.

Had a few more questions come up.
Does this alter Katherine's rise to power?
Does it have any effect on the FC civil war?

Then comes the issues of the other children in the family. Does Corinne get along with Yvonne? Peter? Even Katherine?

How does this affect the FC/Canopian relations?

And thinking of it, does Andurien have ties with the FC? Or gain some from this?
Would be interesting to know how and why the duchess Catherine can get Corinne to Avalon. That is more then just a border crossing.
Does this mean Canopus joins the Star League? Or does that little alliance keep out of it?
Also, does the Concordat become hostile to the Canopians?

QUESTION: Does this alter Katherine's rise to power? And Does it have any effect on the FC civil war?

Sorry, I have not yet gotten that far along in the story .

QUESTION: Does Corinne get along with Yvonne? Peter? Even Katherine?

Good question – though you will need to remember 1st when she was on New Avalon and when each of the children were born (ie. Their ages). Thus the children will be young, and will these friendships last the test of time? Maybee ….

This could also be a trigger for Katherine …. Victor taking her friend away from her …. And hell hath no fury as a child Katherine scored …..

QUESTION: does Andurien have ties with the FC? Or gain some from this?

Canopus – Education Trade – schools etc. + other “more adult” trade … maybe …
Andurien – All trade including military – FC purchasing Betelgeuse ‘Mechs would be a plus.

QUESTION: Would be interesting to know how and why the duchess Catherine can get Corinne to Avalon. That is more than just a border crossing.

I did put in the story that Corinne’s maid was also a Rabid Fox from the FS – she arranged for the transfer.
Why, Corinne needed an education and someplace safe during these formative years so that she could grow up to be a leader that could guide the Free Worlds League in the dangerous years yet to come ….
Thus the Dutches acted more like a mother to her or more accurately a grandmother …. and got her someplace safe and secure (away from assassins and this civil war et al) – and when the time was right she could then return, to lead her people to victory as a mature and capable young woman. (as the saying goes …. Cometh the hour cometh the woman ….)
It just happed that Hanse Davion also agreed with her on this point – Duncan is a loose cannon that needed to be put down – but Corinne, Oh! ….. she could be SO much more …..

QUESTION: Does this mean Canopus joins the Star League? Or does that little alliance keep out of it?

Andurien-Canopus will join the Star League

QUESTION: , does the Concordat become hostile to the Canopians?

Andurien-Canopus now has a mutual defence treaty with the Free Worlds League – so probably not ….

Please, now go read posting re: Ghost War …. I need your input

Had more questions come up about things not gone over yet.

With the lessening of hostilities after Corinne takes over the Captain-General spot, does that mean the FWL will send in forces when the clans invade?

With the war for the Captain-General position done, and the revoking of the general order about home guards, does this mean the others start hostile operations against the government?

Besides Betelgeuse, does the Anduriens take any other CC worlds? That can be asked of the FWL as well.

How does the lessening of hostility affect the effort to re-establish the CC?
Intel from all sides should see it coming, though not sure if they would share it with the others.
Speaking of St. Ives, do they form any sort of trade pact? Or become non hostile outside of the FC?
I would also think the St. Ives Compact would request additional worlds taken in the war, possibly using the excuse that Liao leadership would prevent alot of uprising and strikes. Not saying they sponsor it, but prevent infiltrators from targeting them, as it is not FC rulers.

As for the children of Hanse, they will grow up and with the non hostile ties going on, would have contact with Corinne.

Was there any consideration of making Andurien remain ceded from the FWL? Such as full independent, similar to the FRR?

QUESTION: does that mean the FWL will send in forces when the clans invade?

Yes the Free Worlds League – once they become part of the new Star League will support the Inner Sphere Militarily as part of the SLDF.

QUESTION: does this mean the others start hostile operations against the government?

No, Free Worlds League are relieved they have a rational leader now. (On a side note those who supported Duncan are no longer in power)

QUESTION: Besides Betelgeuse, does the Anduriens take any other CC worlds? That can be asked of the FWL as well.

During the Capellan’s Fall War of 3039-40.
Yes the FWL under Duncan did attempt to capture worlds – though very minimal
Canopus however did make gains within the former Periphery area of the former Capellan Confederation.
Andurien – did not participate – they had the prize they wanted.
St. Ives – they grabbed a couple of worlds – nothing significant though.

QUESTION: How does the lessening of hostility affect the effort to re-establish the CC?

No one wants to re-establish the CC at this stage (or do they?)

QUESTION: trade pact?

Yes, St Ives would want a trade pact with the Free Worlds League.
Being surrounded by the Federated Commonwealth yes they are non-hostile (though all the Liao Clan? Maybe not)

QUESTION: they will grow up and with the non hostile ties going on, would have contact with Corinne.

There will always be hostile areas in the Inner Sphere.
As for contact with Corinne – State visits only (and the odd ComStar Message)

QUESTION: Was there any consideration of making Andurien remain ceded from the FWL? Such as full independent, similar to the FRR?

They are Independent – the Free Worlds League Recognised this – they just have a trades pact and a mutual defence pact in the event they are attacked by a 3rd party.

FWL – Civil War – Draft notes ….

The Following represents some of the battels during the Free Worlds League Civil War.

Note: March 3036 onwards the Federated Commonwealth begins to initiate multiple raids into the Free Worlds League, utilizing both Regular and Mercenary forces, to keep Duncan Marik’s forces pinned in place – in the event he did attempt to move his forces the Federated Commonwealth were quick to exploit any gaps he had created in so doing.

Group – Alpha

December 3035
Chertan Battle
Duncan - 5th Regulan Hussars
Corinne – Falcons and Gryphons

Duncan’s forces were forced into a defensive position upon the top of a Round Hill covered with many obstacles making it difficult for an effective frontal assault. Parliaments forces suffered losses and were pushed back upon the first two engagements, however upon the third they were able to defeat the 5th Regulan Hussars and forcing them to retreat off world, and thus becoming the first victory for Parliament.

Believing the Parliamentary forces, that of the Falcons and Gyphons, would attempt to link up with their forces upon Marik Duncan’s forces were ill prepared for the reality of Parliamentarians strategy.

February 3036
Corinne - Falcons
Target Aerospace Fighters - Amity – Imstar Aerospace – Cheetah Aerospace Fighter

Acquiring Aerospace Fighters and Volunteers

Corinne - Gryphons
Target Battlemechs – Stewart – Corean Enterprises Locust, Trebuchet, Goliath Battlemechs

Acquiring Battlemechs and Volunteers

Upon receiving notification of these two raids upon strategically important worlds Duncan’s forces upon McAffe (9th Regulan Hussars) and Cascade (31st Marik Militia) were dispatched to hunt them down.

It was not until months later when they reappeared were they forces to amend their initial reconnaissance zone.

March 3036
Corinne - Falcons
Target Aerospace Fighters - Trellisane – Gutierrez Aerospace – Stingray Aerospace Fighter

After a brief battle with the local garrison they were able to acquire additional Aerospace Fighters and Volunteers

With Parliaments forces next appearance Duncan’s Generals believed they were gathering additional resources for a major campaign … they came to the belief it would be Atreus, Duncan Marik’s home world. The 9th Regulan Hussars and 31st Marik Militia were thus dispatched with all due haste to Atreus.

Late July 3036
Corinne – Falcons and Gryphons
Target Dropships and Vehicles – Loyalty – Kallon Industries – Vengeance Class Dropships and Partisan Tanks.
Upon arriving the Citizens of Loyalty declared their support for Parliament and all but gave them all available support necessary for them to continue their struggle against Duncan Marik.

September 3036 -
Disappearance and Reappearance –
When the expected invasion of Atreus had come and gone it was not until Duncan Marik had been informed the Parliamentary forces had invaded and captured the strategically close systems of Westover, Mackenzie, Clipperton, Gibson and Tapachula (and that of their Military Industries) and that they were beginning to fortifying them, thus establishing garrison worlds upon which to make a stand - realizing his strategic mistake he ordered a mass invasion of these worlds..

Note: This is where the introduction of big wings is seen once more within the Inner Sphere as Corinne’s forces use their aerospace assets in conjunction with multiple Vengeance Class Dropships to protect these valuable worlds from invasion.

Group – Juliet

January 3036
The 1st Battle of Marik
Duncan - 18th Marik Militia and 23rd Marik Militia
Corinne - 1st Free Worlds Guards and Iron Guards

Having the 1st Regulan Hussars pursue the defeated Parliament forces, Duncan and the 4th Oriente Hussars continued on towards Marik.

Initially the battle on Marik was evenly fought as neither side was able to gain the upper hand. However with the introduction of Duncan and the 4th Oriente Hussars the combined Parliamentarians were outnumbered by Duncan’s forces, they decided to fight anyway.
Duncan however was able to catch the Parliamentary forces unprepared. Beaten back Corinne Marik and her cabinet were forced to flee Marik with the 1st Free World League Guard.

April 3036
Corinne - 1st Free Worlds Guards and Iron Guards
Raided
Targets Battlemechs - Bernardo and Asuncion – Kallon Industries - Crusader

Corinne and Parliament attempt to form a coalition against Duncan, unfortunately this is rejected by Kallon Industries – forcing her forces to fight their way off planet.

May 3036
Duncan and the 4th Oriente Hussars arrive upon McKenna to protect the McKenna Shipyards and lay a trap.

Informed of Duncan’s Trap the parliamentarians divert their forces

May 3036
Corinne - 1st Free Worlds Guards and Iron Guards
Target Battlemechs - Calloway IV – Earthwerks Incorporated – Stinger, Shadow Hawk, Archer
Defending forces – Mercenary: Head Hunters, Calloway IV Garrison unit an Earthwerks Inc. Security Detail.

Invited, Corinne and the Iron Guard arrive upon Calloway IV only to be ambushed – rather than flee the Iron Guard attack. Once subdued the Iron Guard resupply and re-arm and leave.

December 3035
New Olympia Battle
Duncan - 4th Oriente Hussars and 1st Regulan Hussars
Corinne - Steel Guards

The two armies met outside the Adwalton City, an open woodland area that included fields enclosed by fences and hedges. The Steel Guards attempted to adopt a defensive position and initially withstood several assaults by Duncan’s forces. However, when a Steel Guard Company commander decided to pursue Duncan’s forces, rather than maintaining their defensive line, Duncan’s forces were able to split the Steel Guards forces forcing them to retreat.

February 3036

April 3036
Corinne - 11th Atrean Dragoons and 12th Atrean Dragoons

The remaining 11th and 12th Atrean Dragoons remain in hiding upon Sophie’s World

Late August 3036
Corinne - 11th Atrean Dragoons and 12th Atrean Dragoons
Duncan - 4th Regulan Hussars and 1st Regulan Hussars (3rd Battalion)
Target Battlemechs – Wallis – Ronin Inc. – Warhammer and Marauder

In a fierce week long battle the two forces engage in a running firefights until the Hussars are all but destroyed in a last ditch attempt to hold back the Parliamentarians.

With the Free Worlds League effectively cut in two Parliament taking control from Westover through the Principality of Gibson, the Principality of Regulus and the Duchy of Oriente, including the majority of their military units, whilst Duncan’s forces claimed the remaining half of the Free Worlds League the two armies began a conventional war of raining and full out invasions - one against the other - no mercy given none asked for.

December 3036 Corrine travels to the Duchy of Andurien to seeking an alliance and a mission of goodwill.

Unbeknownst to all Duncan Marik has learnt of this visit. He dispatched the mercenary unit Dragon’s Breath as a head hunter unit – they will arrive at a pirate point – drop upon the Chalet Corrine is to use and assassinate her and any Parliamentarians with her.

The 1st Legionnaires are forced to defend her – the Chalet and the neighbouring town is reduced to rubble – Corrine is injured during the battle (Requiring hospitalisation).

Due to this attack Andurien begins to assist Parliament with weapons packages.

As the war continued in 3039 Dame Humphries arranged for Corrine Marik to disappear. Unbeknown to all she was spirited away into the Federated Commonwealth and onto New Avalon by her maid who was also an agent of the “Rabid Foxes”.

When Corinne is sent to the Federated Commonwealth as The Capellans’ Fall war is coming to its conclusion – she is transferred to a military vessel above Sian as the War raged beneath them – and transferred off a military base on St Ives. From there they travelled White Line Cruise Liners (under many new assumed names and on her last route as a NAIS Cadet on her way, and with her maid, to New Avalon.

One upon New Avalon she was interviewed by First Prince Hanse Davion, who had her enrolled into the NAIS College of Military Sciences, under an assumed identity - obtaining minor qualifications in economics and political science and a major as a ‘Mech-warrior.

In the Interim the Free Wolds Civil War dragged on as both sides were unable to gain the upper hand.

Corinne Marik, together with her new mercenary forces, those Free Worlds League forces still loyal to her cause and that of the legitimate parliament and the forces of Andurien began a year war to drive back Duncan’s forces and retake their Capitol, the planet of Marik.

They moved upon his powerbase by invading and capturing Atreus

From there they moved to …

New Olympia , and then to

Keystone, and finally

The Planet Marik …. where in a six month campaign Duncan’s remaining forces and followers were defeated, when Corinne, in single combat, killed Duncan.
Get thee to Coventry … Now is the winter of our discontent, made glorious by this daughter of Tharkad … Our army shall march through. Well to New Avalon tonight.

The entire FWL is involved in this war?
With some of the nations inside of it, I would figure alot more would try to go independent. Or at least sit it out.

And with the money flowing again to the FS/FC agents, more tension and chaos would be sown.

Not sure if all of the parliament would follow Corinne.
Just observations.

QUOTE: The entire FWL is involved in this war?

No – just those that have picked a side

Main Players are

Duncan – Marik Commonwealth; Stewart Commonality + those military units that declare for him.
(…. He will also be attempting to get the Protectorate + Duchy of Orloff upon his side/ use as staging areas for the war )

Corinne – Principality of Gibson; Principality of Regulus; Duchy of Oriente + those military units that declare for her. (…. Plus the Duchy of Andurien due to Duncan’s assassination attempt)

The Remainders are just watching to see who will come out on top ….. unless their world suddenly becomes a battlefield between the two combatants.

Ie. Regulan Free States / Mosiro Archipelago – behind Parliaments line and between them and the Duchy of Andurien.

QUOTE: Not sure if all of the parliament would follow Corinne.

“A council of Regents was quickly proposed until Corinne was of age, and a position was even offered to Duncan Marik as the Regent responsible for Commanding the Military. Though, at the same time, some within both the Military and Parliament were unwilling to countenance such a position be given to a child even if she was legally the next in line for Succession and nine days later Duncan’s supporters abandoned Marik, changed sides and proclaiming Duncan the rightful Captain General”.

And nine days later Duncan’s supporters abandoned Marik ….. those in Parliament who supported him over her .....

Think American Civil War and/or WW1 for when the war actually commences …..

Defined with periods of intense war and peace each side looking for an advantage of one over the other .....
