Another Expansion to the Alt. Universe and how it could be utilized …. Or even the Canon universe?

General Aleksandr Kerensky’s exodus fleet made slow progress through the void. Warships and scout jumpships operated in advance of the main body, along its flanks, and behind it to discourage pursuit. Several vessels were lost to mechanical failures and jump accidents; others simply disappeared. Picket vessels hunted for worlds from which the fleet could resupply.

Until the 24th August 2786 when the fleet reached a cluster of five habitable worlds, and Kerensky announced that they had arrived at their destination.

When you consider the amount of habitable worlds, and their proximity to one another, within the Inner Sphere and the empty void that is between the Inner Sphere and that of the Clan home worlds, do you begin to question why is the Inner Sphere like it is and the void between the two realms like it is?

First, Why not create more worlds (and by extension realms) between the two?

Second, Enlarging realms through colonisation.

Therefore post fist clan invasion of the Inner Sphere – or even post Clan war itself –
the Great Houses establish their own explorer corps – expand – find unknown habitable worlds and colonize – then build hidden military industrial complexes safe from the other Great Houses military – or even just colonies themselves.

Third, Enlarge the realm through establishing new hidden trade routes. (Hidden worlds – Hidden bases)

In the war of 3039 between the Federated Commonwealth and the Draconis Combine and again in the Jihad era – hidden worlds – jumping through systems that are not colonized to gain a tactical advantage – worlds that were destroyed during the Succession Wars and evacuated due to extensive nuclear / chemical / biological damage.

Could there not be hidden facilities – Star League era technology etc still on these worlds – thus why is there no one going after it. Technology reclaimers – who find these worlds and evaluate the possibility of salvaging this advanced technology …. Reckless and dangerous but the rewards would be very high … even large corporations may have their own Star League Salvage Experts … a more advanced Snords Irregulars? (eg. Avalon to New Avalon etc.)

Has anyone considered these ideas or your thoughts regarding this …

Talk to Retry about the Crossroads alternative. They have done a lot with a plot of people wanting to be left behind in the periphery and creating a whole campaign out of it.

Not arguing, but several things comes to mind about colonizing the periphery.
The IS has a hard enough time defending their worlds inside their own states. Trying to guard anything outside is much more difficult. Pirates being the most threat to alot of them, but not the only threat.

Resources to devote to them. I know you got it so the IS isn't in the middle of scrounging for resources. There are a few stories that suggest some worlds don't have aerofighter cover, and only a few dropships for any sort of defense. Most they have is land units.
But more to the point, things like water purifiers are implied to be in very limited quantities, as well as spare fusion engines to run the colony.

And the way the developers make it sound, those worlds closest to the IS are barren rocks, even if they can support life. And most don't have much in ores. Think pirate settings, I would think would work.

There are alot of hidden star league bases around the universe. Camelot Command was one of them. But the Dragoons were tasked to searching the ones the clans still had history on. They did have access to several warships once the clans showed up, and they weren't from clan space that I know of.

There are stories suggesting some systems were abandoned when the houses couldn't protect or keep them in food. Hostile environments that need suits to do anything with. Everything imported, yet the worlds were rich in metals.
Finding one, and rebuilding it, could be a nice campaign for someone. Think of all the pirates, and even other house units, both 'allied' and enemy that could set down to raid it. Even being sent out to punish those that tried comes to mind.

Are there any maps a to lost worlds (Post Jihad) -unused systems etc (as evidenced in the War of 3039 - FC Vs. DC) ?

Diplass Battlemechs
World: Erdvynn (Firestarter and Archer)
World: Inner Surge (Wolverine and Battlemaster)

Corean Enterprises
World: Ramen II (Centurion)

Does anyone know what happened to these worlds?

Do a search on the wiki for the phrase "dead or dying". It will bring up a list of worlds that are listed as such.

https://www.sarna.net/wiki/index.php?title=Special%3ASearch&search="dead+or+dying"&go=Go

And most of those seem to have been killed just in the 31st century. Information on many worlds killed in earlier periods such as 1st and 2nd Succession Wars, Amaris Civil War, Age of War, etc. is likely totally lost. I suspect worlds that were 'killed' by war, plague, natural disaster, or other causes become sort of 'lost' to history after enough time passes. It could happen organically from link rot, software rot, database corruption or abandonment, or just human error or laziness stemming from those ancient records being a low priority to maintain. It has also been done deliberately by ComStar/WoB to hide war industry. In the battletech universe humanity has been waging planet-destroying wars for over 700 years.

It would be worthwhile for a nation-state in the 32nd century to basically re-survey all of human space to find and re-discover them, both for historical value as well as salvage, and potentially re-colonization.

Some worlds still suffer from the nukes used in the first succession war. Border worlds being the most likely to have it happen. Even tac nukes on factory sites would remove the ability to use those very factories, hence removing them from being named as production sites.
Bioweapons and chemical weapons were used as well during the first war. Some are probably still under quarrentine, while others just lost to avoid any spreading of disease, and Happy suggested.

Hell, it was in the Galtor campaign that Hanse Davion ordered a survey of the border worlds to find out what was there. They said to have found more then a few rich salvage battlefields that were forgotten after fights, with the computers suggesting League depots on some worlds. Galtor was one of them.
So it is possible the government would allow some worlds to remain lost. How much civil discourse would come about if it was known the government allowed worlds to die, since they didn't have the dropships or jumpships to keep them alive?
They were diverted to the war efforts, and didn't go back once done. The war machine needed resources, so that is where they focused on. Not some world that was nothing more then a colony with nothing to offer.
Cold? Yes. Very.

This is another reason why it sounds like the IS has so few jumpships. They can not keep all the worlds in luxury supplies and even some, necessities.

And if they are just lost colonies that have developed into a unique society until itself – who have decided to remain isolated from the Inner Sphere?

What if you could now relocate the Battlemech production facility?

What if they still have a Memory Core?

There are many other alternatives available

Though Just because a Colony is misplaced this is not an indication of the number of Jumpships, as they are mutually exclusive events.

Though the idea of conducting a full audit upon areas of space would be a unique experience for you will never know what you may find – hidden world on purpose (Government, Big Business, Military etc) – Pirate Stronghold – Missing Colony etc.

It could very well be some of the worlds would have examples and even the blueprints of things made on world or maybe in system as some items were space factory only.
I would not think all examples would be there, as a factory that made only stingers would not be building streaks or erppcs.
Endosteel, ferrous fiber armor, maybe all variants of the ml, and even the xl engine used by the stinger. They may well have some weapons that are used in defense towers, with a possibility of them being made on world.
But again, not all items.

This can also be your hidden (secret) facilities as well. Only a small few knew if it's existence, and they didn't say anything before they died. No one else knew, so the colony starved, ran out of water purifiers, ores, what ever. They were left alone. So you could have your society form a different way.

As for the number of jumpships, governments had to make the horrible choice of servicing the billion plus population colonies, or the back world ones with a couple thousand. Unless they offered something needed, such as rare earths or massive, easy to get ores, even large farming fields, they would be left to die, and hopefully the citizens of the nation didn't find out about it.
The fourth war said that about the FS economy as Hanse took most of the commercial jumpships to pursue the war with all the forces he did. I want to say there were other examples, but don't remember where they were.
This is along the canon lines. The alt or even players campaigns will do as they want.

These worlds cold have anything on them …. Or could be used for a variety of game plot developments … this is what makes the introduction of these worlds so exciting …

It is not only Governments, it could also be Corporations, it could also have been just human error / negligence …. If I remember the discussion about the 4SW … the lottery / going to the wards with goodies etc … they discussed that it was hurting some worlds but never to the extent it killed off a world …

Though this story arc should have been brought in from the start of the game - as either a mercenary or as a House Unit job – all Great Houses would have their own Explorer Corps – find new routes into enemy territory (Theodore and the war of 3039) – plug holes – census worlds – build new hidden bases etc
OR /- work for a Large Corporations – Find new Ores – New Plants (pharmaceuticals) - Big game hunting etc

For those who play exclusively in the 3025 era this could provide them with a new story arc – you don’t have to be within a higher technological era?

Though if you were – such as the Jihad – you could be establishing a new colony fleeing the WOB forces that are revenging your home world – slowly building the colony over time on a new world?

And even my Alt. Universe - Victor / Omika establishing a new Great House out in deep space between Clan Space and the Deep Periphery - New Story Arc that warrants discussion?
