Designer's Notes:

The Stuart is a bit odd in it's design goals. The term, "General Light Mech" designates the little 25-tonner as a Light BattleMech which can serve a variety of typical Light Mech roles, from Striker and Ambusher, to Pack Hunter to Flanker and even as a budget Scout in a pinch. The Stuart is so-named for the WW2-era American Light Tank the M3 Stuart, and shares some of it's characteristics. Namely it's speed and lack of protection.

The 175-rated Fusion Engine propels the Stuart to a healthy 118.8 kp/h as it's five and a half tons of armor makes it only slightly less allergic to incoming fire then the venerable Locust. However, the little Stuart has some bite for it's size. Namely the six-tube SRM which packs an adequate ton of ammo and a single Medium Laser to augment the launcher and provide the Stuart with a weapon should it survive long enough to exhaust it's magazine.

Doctrine for the Stuart is typically to rush in, preferably en masse ( a tactic aided by it's relatively low cost ) engage with it's MLaser and SRM 6 system, then retreat using it's Medium Laser if it runs out of ammo. The Stuart also makes a serviceable scout that is in many ways similar to the Locust, being a preferred option of commanders who favor a Scout with heftier armament. The weapons that the Stuart mounts also make it an ideal Vehicle Hunter, while the low-cost and ammo dependent load-out make it a great Mech for light Garrsion duty for the cost-conscious commander.

Overall the description "General Light Mech" is the most ample term I could use for the humble Stuart, and I hope you like it. Intro-level, 2750 machines are always an enjoyable challenge. This 'Mech was inspired by the Javelin, being chiefly an attempt to make a 'Mech that was lighter than it and distinct from what made the Javelin a Javelin. To that end it ended up closer to the LCT-1S, being 5 tons heavier than it and 5 tons lighter than a Javelin.

Cheers!
