==Overview:==
The Castiger is designed to take on foes through sheer weight of numbers. The
idea behind the design is to offer enough firepower and defense to keep the
enemy at bay. This is done with Kallon Class 2 Dual Rotary Autocannons and
trio of laser weapons. Rounding out things is a Garret Beagle Active Probe.

I like the weapons, the dual Rotarys are super nice, they behave like a long-range SRM6, great for extreme-range crit finding. That said, I'm going to be unfair in criticizing the rest of this design, because I'm going to point out a major flaw with a majority of new Spheroid designs since like 3048 or so.

It is the DAMN SPHEROID EXTRALIGHT ENGINE. You lose a side-torso and you are out of the game from engine crits. Inner Sphere xl engines are poo. They should only be used on fighters and (maybe) vehicles, if the use-case justifies the higher cost.

Basically, in the Dark Age era, the Inner Sphere should have transitioned away from using its own Extralight engines, to using Light engines combined with other weight-saving technologies. This results in much more survivable mech designs.

Basically almost any XL engine Inner Sphere mech (in any TRO since 3050) should:

-drop the XL engine, put in a Light Engine AND do as much of the following as possible:
-use Endo Steel
-use an XL gyro
-use a Small Cockpit (unless it's a command unit or physical brawler)
-use a lighter armor, for instance light ferro as your design does.

I ran the below re-design through SSW, weapons are the same (except I made the medium pulses X-pulses, because why not) but it uses the above described philosophy to increase the Castiger's battlefield lifespan. There is one less heat sink, a half-ton less armor. It even costs a million bucks less.

By 3132 the IS engine manufacturers should have been able to duplicate the clans XL engines and make it so the IS mechs can survive losing a torso.
But that would lessen the tech difference between them and the clans.
This is something that seems to be avoided by the developers. The IS learning how to make the better equipment.
The same can be said of the case. Make it part of the ammo bin itself.

Now the list of what feels like should be done with all XL using models, that might work for new mechs. Existing mechs would have to undergo a major refitting to do the engine swap.

But then who would want to buy a unit that it is difficult to do anything in the cockpit?
That is a down side when you are looking at it from a more realistic way.
The XL gyro is ok. But having the people that can build and work on it is questionable.
For designs, yeah. Squeezing the max out of a unit by using all the little tricks is great for most.
For a few. They like a more realistic approach to things.

The swarm or horde tactic, for me, is large numbers of short ranged units to take out enemies. Get in and hammer another unit. Normally lighter units being used.
Does it work? For the cost, no. But you can do some heavy damage if done right.
This unit seems to try to do both at once. Which doesn't seem right in my opinion.
It doesn't look bad as a unit to use.

The pulse lasers seem to be an oddity, but I do understand the need to hit better.
I can't place it right now, but something doesn't fit.
But then that is one persons opinion.
