With the introduction of the Davion Heavy Guards RCT and the Davion Light Guards RCT the mercenary unit McCarron’s Armoured Cavalry upon the planet the MAC forces do not escape, they are decimated.
With the 5th Syrtis Fusiliers, two regiments of the Crater Cobras, a regiment of the Screaming Eagles and 15 conventional regiments were to engage the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Regiments of McCarron’s Armoured Cavalry (MAC) (nt:- 2nd MAC is still at one Battalion Strength).
Because of ComStar’s Interdiction the situation on Sarna was unknown, thus the decision was made to send reinforcements the Davion Heavy Guards RCT and the Davion Light Guards RCT. In early December as the remaining Davion and MAC forces began what they thought was the final battle AFFS dropships came over the horizon, with no idea about the situation on the planet and no clue as to where to drop. Urgent messages from the Crater Cobras and the Screaming Eagles, however, told the Davion Guards how serious things were. By passing the normal precautions that go into planning a drop, the ‘Mechs of the two RCT’s left their dropships the very next orbit, and the dropships carrying the conventional troops descended into the atmosphere shortly thereafter.
The hurried drop scattered many of the ‘Mechs, but most arrived together behind the MAC regiments. With his unit nearly surrounded and in danger of being eliminated, Colonel Archibald McCarron ordered his regiments to forget about finishing of the Cobras and Eagles and try to escape.
Nt: The Commander of the Federated Sun’s forces would not ever allow these ‘Mercs escape – their complete and utter destruction would only suffice.
However with the introduction of two RCTs this included five aerospace wings (over 100 aerospace fighters). The retreating MAC forces targeted the MACs supply vehicles – reducing their ability to repair, rearm (ammunition) and feed themselves – as the Davion forces quickly gained air superiority.
As the Light Guards RCTs and their cavalry units (hover) began a series of hit-and-run raids against the retreating MAC forces with the aim of slowing them down, thus enabling the Heavy Guard to engage in force.
Requiring units to expand their search (these then became targets of opportunity) – thus the RCTs constantly harassed retreating MAC forces with the aim of sleep deprivation (Psi-Ops) – reducing their ability to respond as an effective force..
At the same time the RCTs deployed their satellites and two wings of aerospace fighters to begin reconnaissance sweeps to locate the MACs dropships. By the third day of MACs retreat their ‘Mech forces had been engaged multiple times. Their dropships locations would have been narrowed down and with additional reconnaissance flights their positions would be identified; thus the RCTs would enacted a containment strategy.
The RCTs transferred their heavy armour, artillery and infantry and the majority of their fighters to the MAC dropships locations whilst the remaining MAC ‘Mechs were still being chased across the planet. Once within the operational zone, the MAC dropships were engaged by fighters with high explosive bombs, followed by artillery and armour whist infantry forces began gaining access to those dropships who were now unable to escape due to hull breaches.
For those dropships that escaped the ground assault, the RCTs fighters pounced upon them as those dropships began their low orbit jump to the location of their fellow MAC’s ‘Mech forces. This forced the remaining MAC ‘Mechs to drive towards their landing zone / rendezvous zone. At the same time the Light Guards and Cavalry would sweep around the cavalry (denying them any terrain they could use as a defensive position) whilst the heavy guards in the centre (live the Zulu’s of old) attack in force. With the MACs depleted ammunition situation, reduced numbers and their remaining primary weapon being the PPC, close quarter combat ensured as both the Heavy and Light Guards fought to avenge the loss of the 5th Syrtis Fusiliers.
By the time the MAC’s remaining dropships arrived at the rendezvous point not one their Mech remained operational, the remaining dropships thus surrendered rather than attempt a break out through the aerospace screening force again. (In addition with a promise of repatriation to the Confederation with some of their remaining Dropships)

With the destruction of a Federated Suns Unit how many Generals would allow the perpetrator to just walk away with no repercussions?

My bet …. none …. So why just let them skip out on the bill? They have a debt to pay and there are two pristine RCTs who are more than willing to collect on the bill.

My second bet is MAC is some-ones pet unit ….

Your thoughts?

Situation -

From being the one who is besieging to being besieged themselves with the arrival of both the Davion Heavy Guards RCT and the Davion Light Guards RCT upon Sarna it is quite inconceivable that McCarron’s Armoured Cavalry could traverse the entire distance to their dropships without suffering a high casualties .

As the Davion Light Guards RCT’s Battlemechs and Cavalry units are acting as the anvil to harass and conduct ambushes to delay McCarron’s progress as the Davion Heavy Guards RCT, the hammer engage in major strikes to inflict heavy damage.

Whilst at the same time Davion Heavy Guards RCT and the Davion Light Guards RCT heavy armour, artillery, infantry, VTOLs and a percentage of their aerospace assets conduct reconnaissance to locate McCarron’s Dropships – once found they will be engaged and neutralized.

First – aerospace and artillery assets pin them in place;
Second – heavy armour and VTOL engages those who are now incapable of flight
Third – infantry gain access to capture

Any Dropships who are capable of flight will suffer constant aerospace attack runs in an attempt to stop any re-entry to save any remaining McCarron survivors.

Thus for all intense and purposes any remaining survivors of McCarron’s will now become stranded upon Sarna with little hope of being rescued or being able to be repatriated.

The hunt begins …..

Mercenary Contract – following the end of the Succession War

Duty – to conduct search and destroy missions upon Sarna to locate and destroy any former McCarron unit that became stranded and took to the ground following the successful capture of the planet.

Two contracts of a requested unit size of one company each are being offered by the FC.

Duration – One year
Remuneration – Standard remuneration
Transport – to Sarna only
Salvage – 100% of any former McCarron Battlemech.

Situation – not only are you hunting the enemy you must also ensure the other FC mercenary unit doesn’t steel any of your kills at the last minute.

Remaining McCarron forces – Military Intelligence estimate is at a Reinforced Company level – Reality however approximately one battalion.

Any other thoughts as to converting into a game?

This shows the issues with the games developers, and actual play.
The novels as well as the in game material puts the heavy and assault mechs as the ones that win almost every combat, except where they are horribly outnumbered.
This is supported by the fact, most units where wanting to be heavy/assault mech lead units.

I do agree, this does seem like the MAC are someone's pet in the developers circle. It also seems like they relied too much on the aspect of the invaders wanting revenge, then implying they destroy the attackers by using that rage.
I really don't remember much about aero fighter support for the MAC, but don't think it was up to the level of the FS RCT's. I would agree, they would be searching for the MAC's dropships, and no matter how well hidden, it takes time to load and take off. The MAC would be denied that.
I am not sure of the full destruction, but they would not have gotten off with as much as the canon version did.

There is a minor issue with the thoughts about destroying them. Any unit that was in combat at one time or another, would probably have someone looking for their complete destruction. So by suggesting the FS forces would, and making it sound like the CC/MAC would not have that outlook seems a big flawed.

Now for some logistics for the mercs as well as any that had a stack in the spoils of war. Who got what? Dropships and mechs being one of the first to come to mind, but combat vehicles as well as any fighter that survived, could well have increased or at least brought up the merc to par, meaning they would be in the market that much sooner. This could well have a major effect on the future. Granted, I will assume the Cobras do not get destroyed in the BS with the Melissa's assassin destroying them while taking off.

Given the accusations of "bigotry" which were already being bandied about when 4SW products were first released: Sarna was the first act of "nerfing" what would otherwise have been "Capella becomes a vassal state of FedCom" (with Candace Liao as a pro-FC Chancellor -- the notion was rebooted into the St. Ives Compact).
