My UrbanMech refit that replaces the autocannon with a quartet of SRM4s, as mentioned in another thread about TROs. I know the UrbanMech is highly unpopular, but taking garbage and making it somewhat more interesting is more fun than just slapping PPCs on an Atlas. This is one of my most favorite refits for the simple fact that it makes alot of sense and is unlike any other UrbanMech (which always seem to keep one big gun.)

I prefer to treat refits, especially in the quick pace of the Fourth Succession War, as simple equipment and armor reworks. No drastic changes like engine replacement and where possible, weapon types that are compatible or reasonable (in this case, replacing one big autocannon with four SRM packs, all still mounted in the arm where the AC used to be in a 2x2 configuration.) While this is technically a refit of the well-known UM-R60, it could also serve as a refit of the "machine gun variant" referenced as in use by the Capellan militias (and explains how the tracking system could accommodate the machine guns I added.)

Crucis Refit Company (or CRC for short) is my pseudo-role-playing technical company operating in the 3025-3045 timeframe. I wrote several of these refit writeups for units on both sides of the Fourth Succession War (Valkyrie, Vindicator, etc.) but this is the best of the bunch.

OVERVIEW
For the sixth wave, Crucis Refit Company technicians were assigned to support the Twelfth Vegan Rangers' assault of the planet Palos. While disappointed to not be given the chance to participate in the still unfolding situation on Sarna, there had been little work on Menkib following the Fifth Crucis Lancers swift occupation, and after three impatient months CRC was eager to take any assignment that could put their skills to better use.
Thanks to poor leadership decisions by the Second Confederation Reserve Cavalry's commanding officer during the Battle of Xer, the Capellans had left a treasure trove of a battalion's worth of 'mechs and twice that of armor littering the hillsides just outside the city. Among these were two full lances of UrbanMechs with only minor or superficial damage. During the lull between waves, AFFS high command had passed along orders to salvage all functional medium class autocannons to replace the losses on Enforcer and Centurion front line units. Ranger techs dutifully stripped each UrbanMech of their rugged and reliable Imperator-B, but had no desire to claim the rest of the 'mech. CRC thus negotiated a fantasticly low price for the much-maligned units then set to work transforming them into something of value.

CAPABILITIES
The UrbanMech represents one of the most unpopular units in the Inner Sphere. Slow and ill-suited for battlefield combat, the UrbanMech is confined to the city streets where it becomes a dangerous and underrated battlemech. The Imperator-B autocannon found on the stock UrbanMech is not an ideal replacement for the Federated and Luxor models manufactured for AFFS units, but are preferable to downgrades to a smaller model. Thus, many Capellan UrbanMechs were effectively neutered during the later stages of the Fourth Succession War. On Palos, Crucis Refit Company was able to purchase eight autocannon-less UrbanMechs for only 300,000 C-Bills each.
Realizing that a police force will have to stay behind in the Palosian capitol of Xer and on nearby worlds such as Sarna, CRC planned to convert the UrbanMechs into more capable militia and riot-duty units. Mounting a quartet of four-pack missile launchers on the right arm, the UM-CRC provides substantially more raw stopping power when compared to the original. In addition to the new arm launchers, a suite of four anti-infantry machine gun batteries were bolted onto the bulky torso, taking advantage of the Dalban Urban's sophisticated anti-personnel targeting system. In less threatening situations, the standard munitions can be replaced by smoke rounds and rubber bullets: two distinct bins for each weapon type were created within the torso cavities to allow pilots to use each type at will. The resulting UrbanMech is both a more serious threat to battlemechs, vehicles and infantry, as well as to hostile citizenry, capably fulfilling its intended city-fighting roles regardless of adversary.

BATTLE HISTORY
All eight of the refit UrbanMechs were eventually sold back to the AFFS (at over a 200% profit) to form an ad-hoc planetary militia. Three remained on station in Xer, while four more were readied for use on the more heavily populated Sarna. Intrigued, the Twelfth elected to keep the last for themselves as a rear-gaurd unit. CRC did not stay in former Capellan space long enough to hear reports on the success or failure of the UM-CRC but the absense of riots in cities monitored by the UM-CRC gives substantial credit to its abilities as a peace-keeping unit.

DEPLOYMENT
CRC only refit the eight original UrbanMechs on Palos. None were refit following the war, though unconfirmed reports in 3034 suggested that various smaller firms operating in the new Sarna March were performing refits based in part on the CRC design.

Reminds me of the legendary UM-WTF. The AC-20 was replaced with an LRM-20 and three tons of ammo, and the 11th heat sink and small laser were replaced with a medium laser and an extra half-ton of armor.

My own variant of the UM-WTF substitutes the LRM-20 with four LRM-5s. Slightly less heat-efficient, but frees up some weight and space for further improvements. This also makes it easier to ration out ammo.
