WAL-3Y Waylander

Maximum Speed: 96.75

Jump Capacity: 180 meters
Armor: Durallex Super Medium Ferro-Fibrous

1 Imperator Ultra AC/2
1 ExoStar ER Large Laser
1 Shigunga MRM 10
2 Diverse Optics Medium Pulse Lasers
Manufacturer: Johnson 'MechWorks, Inc.
Primary Factory: Unknown
Communications System: Sony MSF-21
Targeting and Tracking System: Matabushi Sentinel

Overview:
Named after a fictional character -- David Gemmell's legendary
assassin Waylander -- the WAL-3Y was designed as a Hunter/Killer
'Mech. As such, it is fast and manoeverable, with decent firepower
at any range. It is well-armed and armored enough to hold its own in
a pitched battle against like-sized opponents, and its excellent
mobility allows it to play a deadly cat-and-mouse game with slower,
more heavily armed adversaries. While the bulky XL Engine puts the
'Mech at considerable risk in a toe-to-toe slugfest, the designers
felt the speed was worth the risk, since the Waylander was intended
to strike from the shadows at an unsuspecting target.

Capabilities:
According to the stories, Waylander the Slayer never missed with
knife or crossbow, was rarely caught by surprise, moved faster than
the eye could follow, and faded into and out of sight like a shadow.
No living thing -- man, beast, soldier, or sorceror -- could kill
him, and anyone he set out after was as good as dead. While it
remains to be seen if his namesake will ever earn a similar
reputation, the WAL-3Y has plenty going for it. In an area with
plenty of cover, this 'Mech is maddeningly hard to pin down,
especially when piloted by a skilled veteran. The incredible range
of the Autocannon conveys a feeling that flight is impossible. The
ExoStar ER Large Laser and the Shigunga MRM rack deliver substantial
mid-range punch, while the WAL-3Y is deadly accurate point-blank,
courtesy of a pair of arm-mounted Pulse Lasers. If this 'Mech is
wisely deployed and skillfully handled, many 'Mechwarriors may have
cause to fear solitary posts and remote areas, wondering if Waylander
the Slayer, the Soul Stealer, will come for them, and if they will
have time to notice when he does.

Variants:
Owing to the ridiculously low damage-to-weight ratio of the light
AC, a much-considered modification is to remove one of the Pulse
Lasrs, or replace both with ER or standard Mediums, and upgrade to an
Imperator Ultra-5 AC, increasing long-range punch, but slightly
reducing its close-range effectiveness. While this leaves the 4G
variant slightly more ammo-dependent, it is considerably more
intimidating at long-range.

MY BLURB:
Well, I'm not sure if it really deserves the name -- it doesn't seem quite fast enough, or deadly enough -- but I think it could be reasonably effective as long as it avoids direct confrontations. Should fit well in a Pursuit Lance. Comments?

hmmm...interesting. I particularly like the stealth armor idea...fits the character. I chose the Ultra AC/2 because Waylander always used a double crossbow, but I guess the Streak-2 fits just as well.

I wonder...could my WAL-3Y be a good candidate for RAC/5 instead of the AC/2 (minus some laser power)? And since we're talking Legendary pilot/Unique 'Mech, why not treat the "missile hit" roll like Artemis? Sure it would make the thing disgustingly munchy, but being "unique", it could make for some interesting role-playing scenarios...

Actually I do like stealth armor. Especially if you are using masc with it. But with so much space allocated for the armor and masc the mech would really be a scout/raider so add the active probe and ECM as well. Replace the AC/2 with the electronics and I would go for the design. I am an assassin fan myself but not a fan of the AC/2.

Actually, I do have a schematic for the WAL-4D Variant which drops the AC for a Guardian ECM, but I used the extra tonnage to bump the speed up to 7/11/7

hmm.. not bad, though.. LB-x ac/2 with mixed load might give it a bit more 'Hah! Die' impact.Cluster and slug for both point damage and say, crippling thier leg actuators if they try to flee with the cluster munitions.
Greetings Mechwarrior.
