Targeting and Tracking System: Unknown

Overview:
Johnson 'Mechworks, Inc. strikes again with yet another bizarre
design, this one aptly dubbed the "Hedgehog". Although the HDG-1H
employs a pair of Diverse Optics Sunbeam Extended Range Large Lasers
as its primary weapons, it derives its name from its secondary
weapons systems: an astonishing cluster of no less than eight Streak
SRM-2 systems. This peculiar arrangement gives the 'Mech its
distinctive prickly appearance, hence the name.

Capabilities:
JMInc.'s latest off-the-wall design, the 55 ton HDG-1H Hedgehog,
is an impressive 'Mech, despite the unusual weapon configuration.
The twin ER Large Lasers provide respectable firepower at range,
while the heat- and ammo-conserving Streak SRMs provide twice as much
punch close-in, without the unreliable missile accuracy of
conventional SRMs. The abundance of SRMs make the Hedgehog an able
tank-killer and anti-aircraft 'Mech as well a sturdy line 'Mech.
However, the unpredictable heat output of the Streak SRMs makes it
difficult for an inexperienced 'Mechwarrior to manage his heat scale
effectively.

Known Variants:
When JMInc. testers confronted the designers with the annoyingly
unpredictable heat output caused by the heat-conserving Streak SRMs,
the designers were temporarily confused, but the problem soon became
clear...'Mechwarriors tried to maximize their effectiveness by firing
both lasers, then managing their heat scale by firing a varying
number of SRMs, and were frustrated when the missile lock failed and
the missiles didn't fire, or the entire missile volley hit, causing a
drastic, unexpected heat spike. The proposed solution was a simple
one: replace the lasers with older Standard Large Lasers, which
reduced maximum heat output to a level such which allowed the pilot
to Alpha Strike safely. This variant is recommended when the 'Mech
is expected to be fighting primarily at close range, where the SRMs
will see frequent use.

MY BLURB:
This 'Mech was designed from a 3050 perspective, when the IS didn't have the heavier Streak SRMs. I've always enjoyed massing large numbers of peculiar weapons on a 'Mech, and this one looks like it might actually work!

Don't miss upcoming JMInc. announcements, which include the release of the much-anticipated (or not!) Urban Beast (all 3 tech levels), and the introduction of the Johnson 'Mechworks Invitational Design Challenge, which will begin shortly after Karagin posts the details of the Line 'Mech competition (don't want too many contests going at once, do we?)

It's disturbing and sexy at the same time. I must think on this.
