GRF-3L Gryfalcon

Mass: 60 tons
Chassis: Thor-4 Endo Steel
Power Plant: Pitban 360 XL
Cruising Speed: 64.5
Maximum Speed: 96.75
Jump Jets: Chilton 460
Jump Capacity: 180 meters
Armor: Durallex Super Medium Ferro-Fibrous
Armament:
6 Medium Lasers
1 ER PPC
1 Small Laser
1 Medium Pulse Laser
Manufacturer: Johnson 'Mechworks Inc.
Primary Factory: Soul
Communications System: Unknown
Targeting and Tracking System: Unknown

Overview:
Once again, JMInc. headed in an odd direction when creating the
GRF-3L Gryfalcon. Incidentally, the odd name originated with some
(mostle unsuccessful) attempts to "upsize" existing 'Mech designs.
According to legend, a Gryphon (or "Griffin") was a creature with the
body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle. However, if a
different bird was melded with a lion's body, what would you call the
result? Hence the names "Gryphawk" and "Gryphalcon". JMInc.'s
Gryphawk was a failure, being essentially a Griffin that traded its
Jump Jets for close-range weapons, but the Gryfalcon is, if not
devastatingly effective, at least noteworthy. This 60-ton design
began life as a Griffin remake, but soon headed off in its own
direction, mounting a heavy load of energy weapons on an incredibly
fast heavy 'Mech.

Capabilities:
The GRF-3L is sure to be a surprise to many enemies due to its
speed -- it can reach a top speed of nearly 100 km/h without the
assistance of MASC equipment. With the added mobility of 180 meter
jump capability, it will easily be able to bring its impressive
close-range weaponry to bear. Its speed, combind with excellent
armor coverage and lack of ammo dependence, allow the 'Mech to remain
effective in the field for an extended period of time. Asingle ERPPC
provides token long-range fire, while a total of 8 lasers can deliver
massive punch in close. As long as the pilot makes careful use of the
jump jets and the PPC, heat buildup should be minimal. While the
design may not be entirely worth its 14,000,000 C-Bill price tag, it
is sure to raise a number of eyebrows as it brings new meaning to the
phrase "heavy scout".

Known Variants:
A single variant of the Gryphalcon exists, but only as a
blueprint, since JMInc. techs do not have access to Capellan stealth
technology. The 4S variant, designed specifically with the
Confederation in mind, slightly reduces armor coverage by trading its
Ferro-Fibrous armor for Stealth armor, further increasing its
elusiveness. At this time, there is no word as to whether or not the
CapCon is interested in the design.

MY BLURB:
Yes, I know I could save 1.5 tons by using a 55-ton chassis, by I was intrigued by the thought of making a heavy go this fast

Problem: Hawks and Falcons are BOTH smaller than Eagles.

Other than that, I like it fine.

I have a couple of 65-ton designs that go this fast. Boy are they pathetic...except in the department of delivering charges.

There's actually a FASA machine that fits that description, and the Kurita Grand Dragon keeps pace with this thing.

I believe that this design would be over on critical slots, unless you remove the lower arm and hands. You are correct that this design would work better as a 55-ton medium 'Mech. Otherwise, I like it.....except the name is spelled wrong.

Wow...nice to know Necromancy isn't a lost art. And honoured to be the designer of the 'Mech in such a resurrected thread!

I don't recall what I did for crits...I know I frequently remove arm actuators for various reasons.

So...anybody miss me?

Oh just stay still long enough and I am sure that no one will be missing you.
Why argue if the glass is half full or half empty, when you know someone is going to knock it over and spill it anyways.

Oh well for sending in my armored infantry to use the trees as cover. I am not sending them into a mine field!
