Alright, I check "Who's online" frequently, and just about every day, 4 "anonymous" folks show up who do nothing but "view user's profile". Who are these people? Search engines after e-mail addresses to spam or just cyberstalkers?

Look at that! 20 minutes later and 3 of'em are still reading user profiles! The profiles can't all be THAT interesting, can they?

Could be worse they could be one of the numerous invisable memebers that are logged on and we wouldn't know what they are doing...

Nic might be able to block them from looking at the User list if you ask him about it...

A materials engineers selects, optimizes, and de-bugs materials. I specialized in composites (fiberglass) and ceramics in school, but the real world seems to use little other than steel and aluminum. I'm currently helping the US Navy make better high strength steels. Or, rather, make sure the manufacturers don't make the same mistakes that makes steels to the current specs sub-par.

I could get a PhD in steels alone and still have not learned everything there is about steels. The many thousands of alloys of steels and their complex behaviors in response to heat treating, mechanical work, and their service environment (corrosion, stress, fatigue) make this one metal complex for even metallurgists. There are a lot of materials out there to be learned, and hence aerospace, mechanical, and automotive engineers call for specialists like me.

If you ever see another gee-whiz-wow super high tech thing made possible by its materials (shuttle heat tiles, carbon fiber composites, carbon nanotubes, Chobham armor, etc.) a materials engineer (or sub-speciality thereof) was there.

Okay, that's about enough I think. It's too easy to make fun of him anyway. :P

Cool! I'm in school for Mechanical Engineering so I can take care of pretty much everything else that ya'll don't pick up. Bundling the myomers correctly(just have to talk to a biologist), designing and setting up the joints, frame, actuators, etc. The trickiest part will be the gyro I think. But shouldn't be to hard, they already have bipedal robots so it's just a matter of getting a scaled up version to work. Might need some help from an EE but otherwise...

Actually it would probably be something more like this: "Alright, now this beautiful creature is the anonymous stalker. It's the most deadly creature on the planet. One look from it will kill 12 elephants. LET'S PICK HIM UP! OH! HE DOESN'T SEEM TO LIKE THAT MUCH!! Okay, now as you can see he's sunk his fangs in pretty deep, I can feel him scraping against the bone in me arm. Now this is really painful, but we don't want to hurt him, so we're going to walk over to that tree a mile over there and put him up in the tree."

If your school offers it, take an intro to materials course, or a basic metallurgy course. I've heard MEs describe the basic course at my college as "eye opening".

I haven't posted in a LOOOONG time- just remembered this board.

So- I looked up where I had posted last.

I was anonymous- so it would look like I was stalking...

Plus- then would I would post, I wouldn't remember where I was- so I'd look it up that way...

Anyway.

One thing though, many people like using multiple windows while surfing. Someone who leaves Sarna open while going
off to check something else will seem to be there. And there`s always the chance they have enabled "always open in a new window" and don`t know how to turn it off. Finally deciding to just close all windows when they quit surfing.

If they are "SPAM" stalkers --- they are doing are lot work for a small payback. I randomly checked a few profiles from the "users list" and I found that email addresses were routinely not listed. In fact not much info was listed at all. Many did like I did and only have a "user name". Of course, maybe my sample was too small.

The question really does become --- Why are they there? It was really boring looking at profiles.
