More vehicle whinning :)
      #31881 - 07/06/02 09:31 PM (206.186.52.16)

My vehicle has just lost both axles . I still have plenty of armor left but it's only a matter of time. Don't know what you would do but I would LEAVE the vehicle as soon as possible. Why the heck does the vehicle crew stay in a no win situation? There should be an eject button for vehicle crews. You win, I get my loser crew back. Seems fair.

I should probably start a new thread for this idea, but what about a surrender button? You've successfully kicked the crap out of me, congradulations, you win, but I would like to have a shot at rebuilding/repairing my rather expensive piece of gear. you could work it something like this -
Do you really wish to surrender - yes/no
Really? Yes/no
Surrendering will cost you "x" amount of Nevbucks extra that will go directly to your opponent. Do you still wish to surrender - yes/no

Your opponent should be able to accept the surrender. Like if you're in a fight with someone who yuo've been beating in LW lately. You're damaged and you surrender, but his guy just blows you out of the water because he doesn't want to see that unit facing him in LW.

Here's an idea:
when the crew of a vehicle gets out (obviously tanks don't have ejection seats), if the opponenet doesn't accep tthe surrender, then an AR-F platoon with the number of crewmen in it is automatically made. (example: Bulldog crew surrenders, enemy doesn't accept, so AR-F platoon with only 3 men remaining is created). It starts right next to the vehicle you have to get off the screen. Then prizes are awarded just like you had lost. And if only some of your crew were killed, then the appropriate number of crewmen (randomly selected) don't return to you (ie, they're dead)

Hmmmm, I think we may be on to something here.

While I like your idea of having an AR Platoon created, getting off the board may prove a bit difficult. Given that vehicles usually utilize lots of open terrain for movement, this could place the newly created unit in the open as well. I think we all know what happens to an infantry unit facing a vehicle in the open.

Your idea of the winning opponent not accepting the surrender, I think is very close to the mark. I hadn't thought of that side of the battle

How's this: If your unit surrenders, your opponent is offered the choice of accepting or rejecting the offer. If he accepts the offer, you get your damaged unit back, he gets "x" amount of extra dollars that you had to pay to surrender. If he doesn't accept, he gets no extra coin and your unit is toast.

Its a good idea, and we have considered surrender options before, but cheaters consistantly ruin our best laid plans. If you could simply surrender a duel, people would just surrender right off the bat and trade arena wins to earn unlimited cash. You also forget that theoretically, comabt rounds take place in a matter of seconds. So, while you sit there and agonzie for 20 mins while your disabled unit gets pounded, in RL you would only have seconds to unstrap yourself, crawl through a conifned space (with 3 other guys) to pop a hatch and jump out in front of a 'mech that is firing LRM's, PPC's and batteries of ML's at you.

hmm then you just have to take care that useing the surrender option does hurt more in nev cash than the winner 'wins', perhaps if one surrenders he has to pay the arena prize instead of the ngc. so no cash benefit overall. just a 'cash transfer' possible and by loggin surrenders you can take care of cheaters for cash transfers. perhaps the surrender button should only apper when at least one hit location is on or near to internals. then it would cost armor for the one empire so at least cash was burned in that arena

I never said escaping from a mech would be easy...

I like the idea of having to be damaged before yo ucan surrender. Let's say with mechs at least 25% of your armor has to be blown off with at least 1 critical hit somewhere.

With vehicles you have to be missing at least half your armor from one location.

You can also surrender if you run out of ammo.

One more thing, for infantry you have to have had 50% losses or more. Plus an AR-F platoon wouldn't be created, the men would just keep the weapon they originally had.

How about only allowing surrender in LW instead of the Arenas? Folks are paying to see things blown up in the arenas!

You can already escape from an arena. I like my idea of escaping.

In LW if you surrendered no one would do it because then the enemy would take all your stuff (porbably). You CAN retreat in LW.

While I agree wholeheartedly with the surrender when the vehicle has been "severly" damaged, I don't agree with being able to surrender when you run out of ammo. That's a choice made when the vehicle is purchased and anyone with an ammo dependent vehicle should use it accordingly. Firing that AC/20 at long range hoping for the quick takedown is a choice. Choose wisely

But, with a last minute surrender button, it would accomplish the same thing. You wouldn't be able to salvage a pristine vehicle that has foolishly expended all it's ammo, you would get a hunk of almost scrap metal back that needs severe repairs (and an ammo reload )

It could be made to work and circumvent any possible cheating of the system while enhancing the experience for those of us who play this honestly, win or lose.

OK, heres an old suggestion about retreating I made long ago, but is prolly still applicable:

OK, here is an idea about retreating:
You do get the option to retreat, so that you can keep your unit. If you do so however, you get 0$ money. The "Winner" gets both players entrance prices, but NOT the +75% Neveron adds. Thus, the amount of money in the game stays the same, so there basically is no cheating possible.
Actually, it would be even better if the retreating player had to pay an additional sum to the winning player so that he gets at least the 70% share of a 70/30 split for his win.
Thus retreating would be very costly for the one doing it, basically only an option to save a treasured mech from destruction.
Example:
Arena created with Mech A, Force Value 40 Million.
Entrance fee for the creator will be 30 million, for the attacker will be 40 million. That nets a total 70 million, times 1,75 gives an arena-price of 122,5 million. 70% of that is 85,75 million.
Now, someone attacks with Mech B. They trade fire for a few rounds, until it becomes obvious that Mech A is going to win. The owner of Mech B wants to keep his Mech though and wishes to retreat. In that case, the owner of Mech A would get 70 million (what both players payed to enter), and Mech B would have to pay an additional 15,75 million to save his mech, so that the winner gets at least his 70% share win.
So the retreating party would lose 55 million $, but keep its mech. If the mech gets destroyed, they would almost win back their entry fee (at least on a 70/30 split), but lose a Mech that is probably worth about the same emount (40 million FV is for example a Battlemaster). So its basially the question if you rather have a mech or the money.
Of course, if retreat is put in as a button, which would be good IMO, the enemy needs to be asked wether he accepts the retreat offer. Especially in 100/0 arenas the winning player may often not want to allow a retreat.
Also, the additional fee you have to pay to retreat should allow your empire funds to go into the negative, so that you can retreat even if you have no money left, and negotiate for loans afterwards.

I don't think that would encourage cheating, as it would be no ezier than to do it with normal fake arenas...

i think it would be better and just simple to save ur crew!
Winner might also get the salvage (but that doesnt need to be!) if u can save ur crew at any time it just saves ur time and money to train new (and if u had a good gunner u will need hima gain especially if it was a mech pilot mech pilot).
this will not encourage cheating since the winner doenst change and the only advantage someone has is to keep his crew alive...maybe he would have also left a lil chance of winning (especially in mechs with destryoed legs thats often possible) but they may just not take it and save their pilot for it!

I like it. Simple and it'll work. So instead of a "Surrender" button, how about an "Evacuate/Punch Out" button? No salvage, no prize money, just your crew back. Well powers that be, what do you think?
