yep...XL Engines can work miracles with Light 'Mechs with large engines. Twin ER Larges with only 10 DHS make this thing a bit hot for my taste, at least in a pitched battle, so I'd be tempted to suggest a variant which drops the SRM for additional heat sinks, for use in a straight combat role. Still, as a scout/backline hellraiser, i like

And I'd drop both ERLLs and the SRM for an ER PPC, a couple DHS, and stealth armor. Nice IS Pack Hunter / Hussar variant.

To make the resemblance comple (and to make evryone who orders the 'Mech pay more money into the FLW coffers) add Stealth armour. Mwahahaha!

Very nice design! Good movement, armor and weapons loadout. Once I get HVMPro I'll print it out and give it a test drive.

The Sha Yu is the same speed

And it is the same tonnage, is equipped with ECM, and it has dual ER Larges

I do believe you need to look again...my mech moves 8 for a walk and 12 for a run...the Sha Yu moves 7-11...that is NOT the same. Nice try.

In reply to:

Sorry but the Actaeon is 35 tons while the Sha Yu is 40, again that is NOT the same. Mine is a light and the FASA one is a medium, big difference there.

Yes they have similar weapons...that doesn't make them the same mech. Also mine is 1.2 million c-bills cheaper. THAT really makes it something of a difference.

So I will stick with the Actaeon over the Sha Yu and the leave the silliness of stealth armor on mechs for the munchkins and alpha strike crowd.

Stealth armor as it is intended is realy not munch. Think aobut it, Liao has very a limited production base, with the ability to produce heavy and assault 'mechs severly limited. So to balance the production giant Marik on one side and the military masterminds of Davion on the other, the mechs they have need to be more survivable/deadly. Now if you are using it just becasue you want to and ignoring availablity of proprietary technology then it becomes munch.

So then any custom made non-canon mech or vehicle or what not is munch since you don't need to follow the canon rules as to who has what, so that in turn makes the WoB munch because they seem to have a lot of everything.

Now a mech with the best of one house's tech could be on Solairs 7 as show piece of tech, even though the mech doesn't normally get made by the CapCon or Mairk, the same for the cool ammo the FedSuns have for ACs or the MRMs for the Combine etc...

Proliferation will happen, like the light engine/heavy gauss rifle deal. MRMs and RLs are not exactly high tech. Marik will sell to darn near anyone. But Stealth armor is another deal entirely. The CapCon is in cahoots with WoB, that is how they ended up with Stealth Armor. That and WoB tends to steal what they want.

The arenas on Solaris are also another deal. Through shell companies anything can be aquired with enough money. But the quantities are small. Not enough for regular production runs, but for the limited runs and one-offs in the arenas, the quantity is sufficent. However, the fan favorites of a particular realm will tend to use house designs and house tech.

But a 'mech with RACs, Stealth armor and an iNarc for example in the hands of a Drac warrior would be munch, unless he is on Solaris. Even then, I would not do it.

Just as I would not normally make a mech that is an engery boat that can alpha all day, to me that is munchy. Either the mechs have flaws or why would anyone use anything but one kind of mech?

A mech being used on Solairs is in a world of it's own. That means its' outside of the norms of the game. Sure the WoB and CapCon have a tempoary alliance, but that still doesn't stop the FedSuns or the Combine from using their own spies to steal the blueprints and such for the stealth armor and given that the armor isn't even close to what stealth technology does, I think they should have come up with a better name for it.

a lil bit of a old argument it sounds like, but heres how I do it, JMY (Inc) is in possession of a SLDF mech production facility, found on a disgusting little arseball of a rock that tries to be a planet, within it wasnt more then slime covered crap and rust.. but after a lot of in game RP and work we DID get it working and ended up being able to reproduce the following gear. Compact Heat sinks, XL engines and Clan FF armor. Mech wise, the 'yard is considered the same as any standard Mech Yard in most of the Houses, just on a smaller scale. 2-3 designs are built for potential build, and fielded at Solaris. the Hellraisers have been round since the war of 39, so we got.. at least in our Btech games, a name, and contacts, through the Kell Hounds and the Dragoons; and both Clan Nova Cat and Wolf in exile, this means we have access, at a price, to clan stuff and there are clan tech caste workers in the facility itself to help with the production of equipment. basically we did it this way so the clans and other houses wouldnt jump the small planetoid along DC space when they knewwhat was going on. A lot of the configs the factory turns out are suited For solaris yes, but they, as the wulfstriker shows, can also be used in full on combat. When it comes down to raw data or role I look at the numbers.. its why I use almost only ATMS, sure missle salvo is lower but ranges are excellent along with damage potential. Racs? work since they are better then machine guns, lighter then some projectile weapons and, jamming aside, do decent anti armor and anti infantry work. lasers.. I favor mediums since the heat vs range vs damage is well balanced out. Compact heat sinks? well space is always a conceren, quiaff? so they work for the role. Armor wise.. laser reflective, hardened, etc are all fine in thier aspects against what they are designed for, but FF(C) works well in most areas decently enough, and the space requirements are not as large as it can be fore some things, like Null Sig and Stealth added in, after all its not like someones going to build a Veritech battlemech thing after all. Personally I consider stealth armor to be useful when/if a battlemech is also carrying ECM, Active Probes and Null sig, if your going to emulate a 'shadow' mech, then may as well design a system around it for the good it does in actual function.

This is just my thoughts of course.

Like the speed, armor is respectable, guardian ECM is a bonus, but i have to say the weapons load out is pretty horrible.

The IS large laser was one of the most horrible things inflicted on the IS and makeing them ER just compounds the problem. Only 4 extra hexes of range for a 50% increase in heat? At least the ER PPC gets 5 extra range and removal of minium ranges.

The SRM-2 is not a very good weapon in my opinon either. You only have a 41.66% chance to hit with both missles. Streak verson could help here, but at the cost of 1/2 ton. No CASE either. 2 tons that could probably be better utilized elsewhere.

Personal opinion aside, its still a respectible mech. With 13 tons (including the ECM) there are lots of possibilities for weapon variations

If you have ideas for variants feel free to post them. I am always looking for variants. To me that is a good thing, if you can keep using the same chassis/frame then the unit will get a good life span.

13.5 tons to work with.
i consider the CASE and ECM chassis specific so we are down to 11.5 tons.

If I was to load out the mech and keeping in the general design and feeling of the mech.
ECM 1.5 ton
1 ER-PPC 7 tons
2 Streak SRM-2 3 tons
Ammo (SSRM) 1 ton
CASE 0.5 tons
small laser 0.5 tons

If you wanted to keep the long range theam..
LRM-15 7 tons
Ammo (LRM-15) 2 tons
Artimis FCS 1 ton
ECM 1.5 tons
1 Med. Laser 1 tons
1 Small Laser 0.5 ton
CASE 0.5 tons

Recon mech / utility mech.
ECM 1.5 ton
probe 1.5 ton
TAG 1 ton
CASE 0.5 tons
2 machine gun 1 tons
Ammo (MG) 0.5
3 med. pulse laser 6 tons
3 small lasers 1.5 ton
