Penobscot-class Battlecruiser
The Penobscot-class Battlecruiser is a warship of the new school: large for a battlecruiser, swift enough to justify the name--and surely armed and armored enough for the name--the Penobscot puts many old battleships to shame. She is rather squat for her length (960m, with a maximum width of 394m in both dimensions), but her performance brings to mind a leaner, more predatory image. She is capable of far more acceleration than many larger warships--she can, in fact, match acceleration with the Star League's corvettes, because her four 10.5-giganewton class thrusters combine to give the Penobscot a peak acceleration of 3Gs. She mounts sixteen hex gatlings of 126cm in eight dual turrets. Other than being easier to deal with than a massive number of single-barrel weapons, the gatling mirrors the performance of three NAC/30s. Normally four of the turrets point forward, one each fore-right and fore-left, and one each aft-left and aft-right. Each turret also has four Barracuda tubes between the two massive barrels, as well as three laser point defense clusters. Each cluster contains four Large Pulse Lasers for anti-fighter work and eight Micro Pulse Lasers for missile defense. In addition to the turrets, the Penobscot mounts four Barracuda tubes and five PD clusters directly aft, and a single PD cluster in the nose. Combined, her firepower rivals even the Black Lion, and puts numerous elder battleships and battlecruisers to shame. Her protection also outstrips many older ships: the Penobscot mounts well over three thousand tons of the finest Lamellor Ferro-Carbide armor, enough to shrug off any but the heaviest salvo.
The Penobscot is another "ship-kabob" like the Maine and Enterprise, and the three share a number of components. Among these are the giant spherical nose with bridge, CIC, and shuttle bay; two "petal" style gravdecks that tilt outward when the Penobscot is under thrust to maintain a constant 1G for her crew; and the rear engineering module, though of course the Penobscot mounts a different set of thrusters. Through these, and the two rings of turrets, spears the KF drive with its Lithium-Fusion battery.

I just read a short story that made me thing of your ship. It made made mention of a ship class called a Guncruiser. I think it applies very well with your pictures and the 4 donzen NAC'/30s.

This story is actually part of a series written by a guy and his friends from college. They use ideas from all over; Star Trek and Star Trek: TNG, Robotech, Wing Commander, various Japanese anima, Transformers, etc. Very interesting reading. The only thing BattleTech related is a Griffin, but *gasps* , the author uses itas battle armor instead of as a mech.

Guncruiser is mentioned in chapter 5, wilderness-2. Wilderness-3 has battles describing it in action. I think it's actually the Difiant from Star Trek: DS9. But guncruiser sounds so cool anyway!
