Training Units Makes them Dumb???
      #41607 - 10/31/02 06:15 AM (64.53.228.167)

Ok I thought the whole point of training units was to make them more intelligent. Yesterday I had a Locust 1s which was trained down to a 2/2 skill level. I threw him intro training today only to find out much to my dismay that my pilot got stupider!!! Todays stats 3/2!! What is goin on here im seriously upset with this, whats the excuse now that he hurt his hand in training therefore he is forever scarred? Someone an admin PLEASE fix this error as we all know how hard it is to get totally elite units, the fact that i had one and now lost it makes me hurt.

Currently
Sgt. Vader Vader - L1S 0.00 8 / 8 / 8 / 3 / 2

Should be
Sgt. Vader Vader - L1S 0.00 8 / 8 / 8 / 2 / 2

Er... I have heard that the piloting skill doesn't do anything...

Piloting skill has a very very minor boost to overall BV and is almost undetectable until lvl 4. As to the troops degrading over time. This look like it will be a new feature added soon. Pretty simple, if you don't use the troops in either LandWar or Arena, their skills degrade overtime. The only way to compensate is to keep them trained on a continual basis or donate them down, in which case their skills don't degrade.

That is pretty lame (the degrading over time thing). Coupled with the can't-take-things-out-of-training thing it pretty much fries a lot of people, especially those with no repair facilities (which means that landwars/arenas are expensive).

I'm coughting up the extra 25% so my units don't degrade. Cripes everytime I raise my income something comes along and puts me firmly back to square one Wonder if it's less expensive to set it to 250% then to train units individually?

I'm wondering the same thing.

Sounds realistic to me...RL units have to train on a regular basis to maintain their skill levels, crap, my unit did about two months per year in the field, for FTX's only, that didn't include rifle-ranges, NBC training, CTT, and what-not

First, piloting skill is VERY important for a mech jock. Granted, not as important as gunnery, but don't plan on doing things like kicking (or standing) if your pilot can't keep his balance. Being a good pilot can keep you in battle, which is always a good thing.

As for the value of 225% maintenance settings, I personally have this setting and I have noticed about half of my previously untrained units (mostly support, jeeps, infantry, etc.) that were 8/8 are now down to 6's and 7's (and a few 5's). This is after what, a half week? Not too bad. I'd say it is worth it. It lets me focus on spot training (like trying to get those 0's).
