Though the infamous McD's coffee spill caused 3rd degree burns over 7% of the 78-year old victim's body (crotch area) and required skin grafts. It's no wonder the jury awarded millions: they had to look at photos of a burned granny's crotch.

And the coffee was kept WAY hotter than it comes out of a standard coffee machine...Something like 30 degrees higher.

Modern laptops seem to vent most of their heat from the bottom for some stupid reason. Actually resting them on something can be dangerous for both the system and whatever it's resting on.

Thus why it's best to actually keep your "laptop" (they're called "notebooks", now, actually) OFF your lap.
