I've got a long trip coming up and I 'm going to need to have plenty to read on the flights. Do ya'll have any suggestions? I've already got Dune and I'm also considering Lord of the Flies.

I'm already planning on re-reading my copy of The Art of War and of A Book of Five Rings. Plus I'm going to review all the battletech strategy guidelines I've collected to bone up and maybe combine or condense things.

Anything by Lois McMaster-Bujold and David Gemmel. Also a new release by Walter H. Hunt, The Dark Wing, good space war novel with some interesting twists. I just finished it and liked it a lot.

Try the "Hyperion" series by Dan Simmons. Hyperion Fall of Hyperion then the sequal series... Endymion Rise of Endymion
Tough to get through, but excellent tech ideas. And outstanding deep-space battle logistics. As I said, tough going, but very rewarding, IMHO

Adding to what the others have said:
David Eddings Terry Pratchett Anne Bishop
And lately I have been reading the SANDMAn series. Although it's a comic, it's not bad.

"VMR Theory," by Robert Frezza. One of the funniest sci-fi books I've ever read.
The "Heritage Trilogy" by Ian Douglas, aka William H. Keith, Jr. is a satisfyingly jingoistic romp by the US Marines on Mars, Luna, and Europa.
