Each arch contrains a blistering array of AMS, MGs, Standard and Pulse Lasers, PPCs, Long and Short range missles to swat down fighters and missles from hitting more vulnerbale ships.
The Defender is usually deployed in battle along side the ship it's protecting, matching it's speed and course. Often being a target because of it's defensive ability, it's heavyly armored for it's size.
The Defender does have two flaws. Limited fuel and food supplies do not allow it to operate independently for long, just enough supplies for 2 months to allow for insystem travel should it be neccesary. It all so lacks fighter support.
It makes up for these deficianies with a 'mutual symbiosis' with the ship it's assigned to. The Defender defends the 'host ship' while being protected from fighters and capital ships.

I came up with the idea of a single shuttle size ship providing AMS protection against missles for a warship and then thought, why stop there? Switched to a drop ship and included anti-fighter ability. What da ya think?
