Chat: 5 Empire Limit - Wayward Son
      #56880 - 04/03/03 02:58 PM (216.19.47.83)

Now talking in #neveron_newbies

(Wayward_Son) lo all

* Zap sets mode: +o Wayward_Son
* Wayward_Son sets mode: +m

(Wayward_Son) thanks for showing up everyone

(Wayward_Son) I will keep this moderated for now so that I can make some things clear for you all and so that I can post logs later

(Wayward_Son) We made the new 5 empire limit rule because of a lot of abuse and what we consider to be "cheesy" style of game play. We do not like the idea of "extra" empires just sitting around collecting free money for use in war or cheating

(Wayward_Son) we have long wanted to limit the number of empires that people can have, but do not want to keep people from being able to play all day or try different things

(Wayward_Son) a 5 empire limit we think is enough to allow people to dabble in different styles of play and keep them busy all day if that is how they like to play

(Wayward_Son) we understand that there are some complications with multiple people all playing from one computer, or schools/workplaces where multiple Nev players play from

(Wayward_Son) our intent with this rule is to give players a clear standard by which we will judge folks, and to give us a tool to curb abuse and empire farming

(Wayward_Son) our intent, particularly in the first month or two, is not to be complete Nazis about this, but to be moving everyone towards the 5 empire limit

(Wayward_Son) even after this month when we find suspicious looking activity we will be speaking with the owners of the empires and trying our best to make the necessary judgment calls. Having more than 5 empires is by itself not an abuse in the way that market abuse or arena abuse is, and will not be treated as such. If we find people with more than that many empires though, we will eventually start deleting them if people fail to cooperate

(Wayward_Son) Some good questions have been raised

(Wayward_Son) One question people have are non-primary logins in other peoples empires

(Wayward_Son) those are not our concern, we are only worried about empires that people actually 'control' or 'own'

(Wayward_Son) Another is that some people have donated for more than 5 empires. While we would like those people to eventually trim their empires down to the requisite 5, we are not going to be deleting or punishing people who have more than 5 empires that they have donated for for obvious reasons.

(Wayward_Son) "Punishment" for having more than 5 (which will probably be rare) will simply be the deletion of excess empires, nothing more

(Wayward_Son) As far as figuring out who owns what, we have some tools that help us decipher where empire are being used from and for what purpose

(Wayward_Son) we will couple those with some old fashioned trust and communication and do our best.

(Wayward_Son) I will take some questions at this point, if you have a question please PM me and I will take then in the order that I get them

(Wayward_Son) (Krakanroc) One question: What happens to those players which use a static IP-Server? Do those 5 or even more Players have to divide those 5 Empires, or how could we manage that?

(Wayward_Son) Each player can have 5 empires. People are reminded that real abuse takes the form of market and arena abuse, so be careful with that. If we suspect that there are an excessive number of empires on 1 IP we will contact those in question

(Wayward_Son) One question I have been asked is about someone managing another person’s empire

(Wayward_Son) This basically comes down to shared logins

(Wayward_Son) As a general rule we are going to consider whoever uses the login the most to be the primary player

(Wayward_Son) Another question I was asked was about people watching over a friend's empire while they are away (such as in Iraq) Because we have a large number of players who are in the armed forces we are setting up a flagging system to watch these empires. Simply contact us with the empire names and we will flag them so they will not be deleted

(Wayward_Son) upon the return of the Vet they can send us proof of service overseas, and we will give then compensation for the lost building time while they were gone

(Wayward_Son) there will be more details about that in the Admin page when it s coded

(Wayward_Son) another question was about "communal" empires

(Wayward_Son) basically we have to consider 12 person as the empire "owner" and the most used IP
will probably be applied. As I previously said this is going to come down to judgment calls. The best thing that you guys can do is basically have 5 empires that you log in to. If you have to watch a buddies empire or if your friend comes over and uses your computer it probably wont be a big deal

(Wayward_Son) and if for some reason it is, you will simply be contacted and we will double check

(Wayward_Son) no one is going to get "punished" for having too many empires on an IP one day

(Wayward_Son) eventually as we improve this system, we will add better functions for people to make clear their empires. The problem is that most "systems" are easily abusable, and so often are not worth the effort

(Wayward_Son) ok I think I have answered all the questions that have been Pm'd to me

(Wayward_Son) I will now open this up and we will see where it goes. I only have about 20 more minutes to chat, but I think we have covered most everything.

(Ender[DOA-W]_in_class) what about if someone wishes to give their empire to someone else because they have too many and the other doesn't have enough
(Wayward_Son) that is fine Ender[DOA-W], a good solution

(Tolrick) what if two people that live in the same house want to play. You never really answered the question about more than one person using the same IP address.
(Khan_Zartek_Fuery) Yes what about family members playing neveron
(Vista[DOA])What about my brother and myself who share the same computer
(Vista[DOA]) What if a person has 5 empires and shares 1-2 with a friend and they CO-RUN it

(Vista[DOA]) could that empire count .5 toward the 5 limit, or could they just both share it with no punishment
(Wayward_Son) no Vista[DOA] I made that clear above
(Wayward_Son) I answered all questions about multiple players from the same IP above

(Zool_PMonly) What about factions with empires that are going to get deleted? Will the Faction leader be giving a refund on the investment or be allowed to swap other empires in?
(Zool_PMonly) I just spent a few RL months of income about 2 weeks ago on a faction
(Wayward_Son) yes zool, I'm sure you can find someone else to take over some of those empires. one of the weakest things you can do in a faction is have multiple empires from the same person
(Wayward_Son) PLAYERS make a faction strong, not empires
(Wayward_Son) Zool_PMonly there are often changes made that mean people lose out on some money or sometimes get the short end of the stick. It is one of the downsides to developing a game that does not reset. I am sure there are option you can consider, like absorbing the empires or giving them to a friend, that will both strengthen your faction and make a better outcome from this change than simply losing those empires

(Wayward_Son) please don’t repeat questions, just scroll up

(Tolrick) I still think each player could register their empire names. That eliminates the confusion about IPs

(Zool_PMonly) Tolrick, what about people making two names for 10 empires?
(Zool_PMonly) it's what WW called a "judgment call"
(Wayward_Son) exactly Zool_PMonly, a registration system is tricky since it is easy to fake an email or have a pretend brother

(Wayward_Son) any other questions?

(Tolrick) As I said before WW showed up.....what's the diff between one person claiming two 'names' and two players claiming one 'name' each.......none

(Zap) any option to be allowed 1 more empire for 10 dp per month? ;]
(Wayward_Son) lol
(Wayward_Son) no Zap

(Thirdborn[pm])when we have someone take an empire of ours - they don't need to change email or anything?
(Wayward_Son) Thirdborn[pm] if you have an account you always want the email address to be your current addy so that we can contact you and pass you lost login info
(Wayward_Son) it is the only way we can prove you should be given login information
