The outskirts of Babel were cropped with small hills and patches of shrubs. Tera Fallstar of the Emerald Lancers Unit hid in cover of a cluster of bushes. They hid there waiting to ambush the mechanical monster that was traverse the hills towards Babel. After mere hours the Wasp finally appeared out of the dotted hills. The beast marching on methodically towards the defenceless citadel, weapons at the ready. The Emerald Lancers ready themselves, willing to sell their lives to buy the populus more time to evacuate from the city before the Mechwarrior made its way into the citadel.
All the men shouldered their SRM launchers and prepared for the slaughter that was to come. They payed homage to the gods that be that there lives would not be in vain. The Wasp finally made it down the pass. All the soilders were waiting for the signal from Tera. As the Wasp drew closer the smell of thick grease and oil was carried in the air. The Wasp was adorned with battle scars. Its armour was peppered with bullet indents and small scorch marks. This was indeed a formidable enemy!.
The waiting for the Wasp to make its way through this pass drew on. Tera stood viglant waiting to give the signal. Suddenly the field radio intercepted a transmission.
"Vector 1 Abort mission Target 1 has been aquired Relocated to Target 1 and fortify Over and Out"
The beast stood dead in its tracks and then its internal gears started once again with a obsence groan and it turn about back through the pass back the way it came. "So there was a second target but where was it" Tera pondered. Tera got his communcations officer Hotlz to radio Seren who was supervising the evacuation.
"Brother, the Wasp has turned back, but to where I do not know" said Tera "Turned back, that is a relief but is it blessing or a curse" said Seren "Well how goes the evacuation??? said Tera "The people have been moved to Fort Atama and the Imperial Temple, but they are no better fortified than Babel" said Seren "I see, well wherever it went let us hope it gives us a reprieve to for now so we can marshal our forces" said Tera "Aye, brother I shall finish here and bring moblise the forces from Fort Atama to fortify Babel" said Seren "Yes, next time they come we will fight them on our terms. My unit will scout after the Wasp and see what the second target is, Farewell Brother" said Tera "Good luck and let the Queen guide you" prayed Seren

Was a battle I just fought. And I used the term "fought" loosely since no shots were fired.

Here’s mine…
Akbar Beshaud crouched behind a small outcropping of shrubs, inside his self dug foxhole, trembling intensely, clutching his assault rifle with a death grip. For all the good it would do, might as well be holding stones instead. This was his first taste of battle and was scared beyond comprehension, even now he felt an intense need to relieve himself. The Temple priest had lamented how their righteous forces would be triumphant.
Bull#$%^!! They always said such nonsense. His faith was as shaky as his body at this particular moment. Around him other young men prayed silently or aloud, except the platoon Sergeant. The sergeant stood stoic, partially hidden behind a large boulder, oblivious to the behemoth striding forward, a Wasp, the version unknown to his untrained eye. The sergeant, lowering his monocular viewer scanned his squads, with a nod, he seemed satisfied. Talking into the mouthpiece, evidently over the command net, for he heard nothing over his comm equipment, the sergeant wrote furiously on a field notepad.
“Beshaud!?” A hushed voice spoke with earnest. It was Abreheim Mosul, his best friend, crouched in the foxhole next to him. “Do you see it?”
“No! Why don’t you take a look?” I gibed. “I can tell your mother you died a hero.” And what of mine, what would they tell my mother?
“That’s not funny Beshaud. The Elders protect us?” Beginning to pray silently, his body rocking.
“What if it can hear you?” That was cruel, are you any less scared? That got a response.
“Maybe it will only kill the ugly and stupid?” Mosul, chimed back, stopping his praying.
Chuckling to the humor. “Then you shouldn’t be far behind… eh?”
Mosul was about to respond, when a large shadow fell between the two of them, their banter interrupted. “I don’t know if it can hear you, but I can!” in a hushed roar. “Now keep your smelly holes shut or ill feed you to it!! Focus, your lives may depend on it!” the platoon sergeant continuing down the line of troops, stopping every so often to chastise some young soldier.
“You see, you got me in trouble with old hard bottom!” Mosul mutely whined. Beginning to pray again.
“He was talking to you! My mouth does not stink!” I incriminated back in as low a voice as possible. Maybe I should start praying?
“That’s cause your not sitting over here...” he said, laughing as quietly as possible.
Ahead of them, a machine built only to destroy marched on, it’s destination, known only to it’s pilot?

George Washington, August 27, 1776
