Overview :
The Phalanx Class began as a reverse engineering of the Monsoon Class that was secretly purchased in the year 2619, by destroying the vessel and studying it construction techniques, the Rim World shipbuilders used this information to begin a rough draft of a Battleship for the Rim World Republic. In 2643 Selanta and Tadeo Amaris took great interest in the development of the new warship and used the cover of building up its armed forces to hide the exspense of the construction. Also a secret facility was constucted in the asteroid belt of the planet Star's End. It would be here where the Phalanx would be born. It took almost 40yrs for the secret facility to be assembled, in 2661 the first keel was laid and worked started on the Phalanx.

Capabilites :
Designed to engage and destroy any enemy vessel she would encounter, she would also act as an battering ram to pound through enemy formations.

History :
30 of these mighty vessels would be deployed in the Terran Hegemony. The Stefan Amaris would be the lead warship for the fleet sent to guard the convoys of troop transports leaving the Republic. 22 would stay behind and guard the republic from the expected counter-attack after the coup. On December 2766 the systematic destruction of the Star League began, soon after the orders from Stefan, the 1st, 4th and 6th Republic Fleet attacked Star League warships, jump stations, civilian space habitats and military space habitats. The few League warships put up a valiant fight but were soon crushed or captured. Losses were light for the Republic fleet. In 2767 the Angry Star League Army smashed into the hapless Republic and it was a bloodbath for the 2nd, 3rd and 5th fleets. Of the 22 Phalanx Battleships only two survived one, the Selanta Amaris jumped to the Star's End facility and was never seen again, the other the Richard Amaris was captured, stripped of its weapons and turned into a prison barge. When the Star League recovered and rebuilt its forces it attacked the Hegomony worlds. The Phalanx Class was at the forefront of all defenses. Practice of the Republic forces put three Phalanxs per planet under attack or to be attacked by League forces. This practice insured the destruction of the vessels. In one case it seems that the SDS Caspers mistook two of the Phalanxs and destroyed them in the middle of a naval battle, it seems that their IFF transponders were destroyed and the FoF indentification was lost.
Only one ship survived the war, the afore mentioned Richard Amaris, it remained a prison barge and would leave with the Star League. its fate is unknown.

Nice to see a battleship that isn't 2.5 megatons and/or bristling with 100 NAC/30s.

About the fluff, though: there wasn't all that much fighting in the Rim Worlds Republic when the SLDF moved in to occupy it. Most locals were too horrified at Amaris's actions to oppose the SLDF. Of course, most of that fighting could've been fleet battles.

OTOH, Amaris didn't set out to destroy the Star League in 2766. He set out to conquer and rule it. His attacks against space targets were just part of the military coup and asserting control. The Titan Shipyards, for example, made it through conquest and liberation intact.

thats why i chose space battles instead of the ground battles.
and yes he did set out to destroy anything that the Camerons had built. it states this in the SLSB and one of the House Books.

Toward the end of his rule, yes, Amaris did go rather nuts. However, he didn't begin the outright destruction at the beginning. The Terran Hegemony worlds were largely undamaged by the coup and only mauled in the subsequent liberation - Amaris was there to rule, not destroy.

ok i can see what you mean, indivual commanders were responsible for most of the attrocities committed by the Republic forces. But as Stefan was the supreme commander the ultimate resonsibility fall on him, so hes guilty as charged. in the begining he moved militeristic experiments to terra and all other scientific material was shutdown or destroyed and this was at the begining not the end. there is plenty of material supporting this statement as well as a statement in the SLSB saying that he set out to destroy anything related to the camerons rule.

Oh, certainly. And in the end, Amaris was walking the halls of the Star League court shooting anything that reminded him of Kerensky or the Camerons, plus I think he ordered some scorched Earth work.

I was just saying that initially, Amaris didn't conquer the Hegemony with the intent of destroying it. He was a sad little man who thought he could be ruler if he launched his military coup.
