Recollection of Our Forefathers
      #62639 - 06/03/03 08:01 AM (172.139.99.142)

[If I'm blatantly off with any technological/historical/etc. Btech facts forgive me, I'm not well versed in the data yet. ]

Draconis Chastine sat on the still treads of the G3X-00 Gecko that Kanaye affectionately called "Gecko's Tongue". The simple craft was parked about 500 meters from the border with the Union of New Fredericton, on the Empire of the Two Moons side. As Kanaye finished setting up the device, the two began to talk.

"So on the way over here you said you were going to tell me about the empire before I showed up," Kanaye reminded him.
"Eh? Right... You really want to know, then?"
"Obviously."
"Alright. I guess you'd have to start with the history, at least as far as I remember it."

"Some time after the new millenium, around 3029 or so, the founder of the mercenary group "Dragon Phoenix" stationed himself on Outreach, like a lot of mercenaries. Going by the call-sign "Shadow", he single-handedly took care of several low-key missions before realizing that there was something to strength in numbers, no matter how many guns he put on his 'mech. In twenty years, he turned a one-man operation into two full Companies of Battlemechs, though not many were what you would call 'top metal'."

"Well anyhow, come the late 3040's, the Clan invasion happened. You know about that stuff, right kid?"
"Yeah, I've read up on it," Kanaye replied.
"Good, then I won't explain it to you. That's when Shadow got his first taste of Clanner technology, and he liked it. It took him a while, but he landed a sweet PPC blast into a Mad Cat's cockpit, and he swore by the things since, never piloted another 'mech again."

"But continuing on after that, it was a mercenary group. Mercenary groups tend to follow money, and the money was in the newly divided space where the clans formed a nice 'tear' in what was once otherwise commonly accepted as territory lines. With constant war, there was constant need for transport. Eventually they just bought themselves a jumpship and converted it into their own little slice of Terra. Not a small business venture, mind you, but it was worth it to them."

"That's where the 'Dragon Fang' and 'Phoenix Talon' came in. They were the most elite of the group, able to take on Clan Mechwarriors without sweating. By the time he found them, Shadow was quite old. It was in 3067 that he died, but before he did he declared their jumpship and all of the population, some civilians included, as an independant nation."

"That didn't make anyone in the Inner Sphere or the Clan Space too happy. It was the Exile all over again, they got run out of known space and into the unknown reaches. For a hundred years, there's no history or records, nothing. Then in the mid 3150's they show up back in known space, but there are two seperate units now. There's the Dragon Fang, and the Phoenix Talon. A civil war, the Dragon Fang wishing for research and economic prosperity, and the Phoenix Talon crying for the blood of it's enemies, for a price."

Draco(nis) looked over at Kanaye, who had crossed his legs and was sitting, listening intently to the story. Draco grinned and continued, returning his gaze across the border into Union of New Fredericton territory.

"To make a long story short, the two forces nearly wiped each other out. The battle 'ended' more or less over Neveron here, which is where the Dragon Fang forces fell in dropships. Phoenix Talon aerospace fighters took out a few before being destroyed themselves, and all that remains is the Empire of the Two Moons."

"I get it, one moon for the phoenix and one moon for the dragon," Kanaye said as he nodded.

"You got it. Our previous emperor wanted the best for us to the point of giving his own life in the arena for the foundations of our economy. At the time, I was his advisor. He'd left specific instructions for me to bolster the economy, but left me with the one piece of preserved technology that he had kept secret, even after the crash."

"And what's that?"
"That, Kanaye Wildfire, is another story. Now point that device over to the east and put it on full blast and let's see if anyone over there is listening."
"I still say it would be easier to just send a normal message," Kanaye mumbled as he got up, moving over to the device and doing as ordered.
"We could do that, if we weren't so close to being in debt with all of the residential and commercial structures being built in Illusia," Draco replied.

As the device was being set up, Draco rubbed his chin lightly. A layer of stubble had grown there, and it would've been more if not for the short distance they had traveled from their capitol. Which was actually one of his main concerns and prayers for what he hoped would be an alliance that would strengthen both territories.

[More to follow, though slightly more specific to the Union of New Fredericton]

Fun.

Good methodology on introducing a history.

Thank you, all of you. It's been a while since I'd written anything and I wasn't really well versed in Btech to begin with, so I was slightly worried it would turn out poorly. I may make it into a Btech story, however that would be done, once I get more of it ironed out. I really don't have a conclusion to the story (the Phoenix Talon half is going to come back and attack), so we'll just have to see how it pans out. Though, hopefully I should have more story for you.
