Lightning War
      #68763 - 08/09/03 04:53 PM (12.221.209.32)

The following is transcript of Captain Searo Ficha's, Emperor of the Darkfire Legionnaires, war with Dark Nebula. Dubbed the Lightning War by Darkfire Historians, noting on the swift speed in which land were claimed...

Finally. The Council had given the go ahead for my war to begin. As soon as I walked out of the Council Chamber I was on the comm with my friend Jyte, the Military Leader. He mobilized a Gecko Scout, which was stationed in Kalimdor.

I was both excited and apprehensive, who knew what the enemy's forces contained? That's why the scout was sent out. His orders were to retreat from any enemy opposition immediately. The lone driver zipped across kilos of vacant land, and I ordered several tons of parts for new towers.

Our researchers recently achieved a breakthrough on the sensor tower design. It mounted sensors nearly as powerful as those present on our Ostscout. The Tower was also nearly invisible to radar. These were to be set up in all zones to prevent them from being taken without notice.

I walked out of the Capital Building shortly after breaking off contact with Jyte. Walking briskly, with a few bodyguards trailing behind I made my way to the nearby Mech Hangar. The "Flameseeker" was stationed inside along with our 3 other mechs. In case enemy forces were found, this Lance would be immediately mobilized and sent out.

"Searo?"
Jyte's voice crackled over the commlink.
"Yeah?"
"We just took the small village of Home Lite. The Scout is moving onwards. It will move on to the four city metropolitan area, and scan them for signs of enemy forces."
"Great. I want you and your boys standing by in all of our cities. Tell all your tanks to take up defensive positions."
"Will do, Jyte out."
I waited in the Hangar for the Gecko to report in, wondering if a mobilization would be necessary.

Re: Lightning War
      #68810 - 08/10/03 03:08 PM (12.223.138.27)

My scout had reported one large city completely undefended, and another with some protection. The brave Gecko rolled into the defended one and prepared to distract the troops until they were completely worn out.

I sounded the alarm in the Mech Hangar. My 3 companion Mech pilots arrived quickly. My men are very well trained indeed. I smiled and informed them of the situation.
Pell Tillar is my scout, he's a tall wiry man with the biggest glasses I've ever seen. Even corrective laser surgery couldn't help him. He turned down replacement eyes due to the exorbitant price.
"Am I point again?"
I replied, "Well of course, you have the most sensors."
He grumbled, the Ostscout wasn't exactly his mech of choice, but due to his average mech skills he was stuck with it.
"Yeah and I got the least weapons too..."
Ferr Jando was silent. He was the loner of the lance, and he didn't talk much. The man wielded the PPC on his Panther with a deadly precision though. he had already climbed into the mech cockpit. I gave him the thumbs up and Ferr immediately began striding out the hangar in the Panther's slow measured stride.
I climbed into my own mech as well, a Phoenix Hawk like the one I had piloted before in my Mercenary days. It was untested, and I hoped it would get to see some action today.
Elyon Gerdo, the last pilot smiled at me and then jumped into his Trebuchet. The "Treb" as he called it was our long range fire support. It packed too few ammo for my tastes.
He was short, with a dark complexion and a huge smile. He was the joker of our group, always turning your laser reflecting lenses the wrong way. El was my techies nightmare, but an excellent mechwarrior.
Pell and Ferr were already walking up the LC ramp, and El and I followed quickly. We stepped in, and the mammoth craft took off.
Even I, a veteran mech pilot had a case of the pre-battle jitters. I kept going through my systems, making sure they were functional, even though they had already been checked several times. Call it a nervous habit, but it insured that no emergencies would surprise me while I was out in enemy territory.
"ETA is 3 hours, sir."
"Roger that, tell us when we get there."

Re: Lightning War

I was angry. No, that's not the word for it. I was frustrated, annoyed, peeved, ticked-off.
Well, I guess I was kind of angry.

We had rolled into the deserted city, easily taking it and impressing a lot of civilians when they watched the 6'o'clock news to see our giant mechs striding into an enemy city.

This doubled our population, and the city was christened Omega Vista in memory of my old friend Blast Omega. It has a ring to it, and many of its citizens were happy to finally get some protection against warlords and pillaging rabble.

Then, the Council Report came in.
"We have restricted you from continuing attacks on this empire until a later date. The military budget has been used up, and you're eating into the expansion funds and the emergency reserve fund."
I swore, and Pell and Elyon jumped. Ferr remained aloof, polishing the enormous PPC mounted on his mech.

"What's wrong boss?" El looked troubled, an unnatural emotion for the always cheerful warrior.
"Council cut off our funding."
Pell was outraged,
"You're the Emperor! Those know-nothing ninnies would just blow all that tax money on more research facilities "to become self-sufficient".
I laughed at that. Being a small nation, the Legionnaires had no mines with which to depend on. Research Facilities were completely worthless to us.

Ferr Jando stopped polishing the PPC. El called over to him,
"Hey, whaddayou think about all this?"
He stared for a moment, and then turned away to repaint a chipped section of the trademark FireStorm paint all Darkfire mechs used.
"I think I'm gonna have to pay the council a little visit in Sniper here."
Pell gasped,
"It speaks!"
We all laughed, and even Ferr cracked a smile. He called his Panther the Sniper, due to its long range and pinpoint targeting systems.
I told them all to get some rest, it had been a long march rounding up all the city officials and relieving them of their authority. Some would be reinstated, others loyal to the former empire would not.
I made my way to the hotel we had commandeered, and looked forward to a soft bed.
I had told Jyte to drop some tanks in here for defense, and they would take over while we slept.

The campaign was going well....

"Sir?"
"Yes Councilman Jacobs?"
"We've uh, approved your uh, War Budget Expenditure Plan."
"Great! But...why? I thought you said it was more important for us to make our own rifles than blow money on more reckless war-mongering."
"Yes, well uh, we changed our mind."
"Why would that be?"
"Your son is pointing an AC20 at the Council Meeting Room."
"Ahhh. Well, his gunner in that Hetzer is a tad triggerhappy. Good luck."
"Wait! Call him off you-"
"Transmission ended sir, thank you for using ComStar CommNetworks, have a nice day."
I laughed, poor blustering Council, what were the people thinking voting those buffoons into office? Well, the Whizkid would keep 'em occupied for a few hours, which is plenty of time to roll into the enemy city.
I knocked on the doors of each pilot, and shouted to get ready. My Lance, whose purpose was somewhere along the lines of scouting and main battle group, was the elite of the empire. The Mechpilots were ready in ten minutes flat. They knew I would chew them out if they were late.
We all climbed into our mechs, and loped off out of the city. Ferr lagged behind, his Panther was slower than you woudl expect from a light mech, the huge PPC needed a stable firing platform.

Pell took the point position, his advanced sensors scanning the enemy positions as we marched into the second city, Star City. Intelligence reported units in the area, so we stayed ready for any sudden ambushes.
"Uh-oh."
"What's Uh-oh?"
"I'm picking up-"
"[censored]!"
"Yeah, I know."
"In for a fight, boss."
"We can take them, sir."
Sensors had picked up several Schrek tanks. Elyon's Treb carried a few LRM salvos, but not enough to take on Shreks. There about 8 other light to medium tanks, and an Urbie.
"We got a beercan!"
"Don't worry El, I'm the beer can crusher!"
"Hey Ace, I'll do the smashing, me and Ferr can take it."
"Affirmative, Elyon and I will eliminate the target."
"Shut up you guys, I'm locking onto the enemy transmissions."
"Whoah, you can do-"
"SHUTUP!"
We heard the enemies chatting. Most of them sounded green, and they also had little idea we were approaching A spy in Omega Vista had tipped them off that four mechs were attacking, but other than that they were in the dark. Pell's advanced Jammers kept it that way.
"Let's take that Scorp and Jeddie."
"Roger."
We opened up on the JED-LAS Hovertank, Ferr lagged behind and Pell lacked any weapons to really damage it, so El and I provided most of the fire. I jumped onto a ridge and blasted with my Large Laser. El layed down a barrage of Medium Laser bolts. He also locked on with his Missiles and nailed it with those. It shot back at him, but mostly missed.

We didn't miss.

After circling around it a couple times El fired one final salvo and blew it sky-high. The Scorpion retreated into a neighboring city, and we didn't follow.

"Beercan Battlegroup, over that ridge."
"Roger that."
We turned to intercept them on the ridge, catching them in a deadly crossfire in the ridge below.

Sure, if you really want to.

But I'm not quite finished. In fact, the whole thing is still going on (currently). He's restricted again, and dropped to level 2 after the death of the beercan battlegroup (spoiler!).

Re: Lightning War

I walked to the edge of the plateau overlooking the valley, and lined up my crosshairs on the Urbie. If it got into range, my men would be torn to shreds.
El hit his jumpjets and landed right next to me. I saw his LRM racks pivoting in the direction of the Urbie.
Ferr took a position on the south ridge, El and I were on the western ridge.

Pell jumped onto the south-western corner of the ridge where his sensors would be extra-effective.
"Fire at will."
A shining blue bolt of death sped from Ferr's Cannon. It smashed into the Urbanmech, but the tiny squat can continued its relentless march.
I heard the woosh of missiles slicing through the air, they too hit the small mech.
My trusty Phoenix Hawk let looses several bolts from its deadly Large Laser, scoring several hits.

More light tanks were pouring in from the east, and the small army continued advancing on us.

"Shreks are rollin', should be in PPC range pretty soon."
"Roger that, Pell."
Our radar told us that Savannah Masters, Bulldogs, and other assorted tanks were accompanying the Urbanmech. When the AC20 threat was neutralized, we would deal with the others.
More shots slammed into it. We all held our position on the ridge.
"AHHHH!"
"Pell!"
Several blasts from various weapons slammed into Pell's OstScout. He was lucky nothing came from the Urbie's huge cannon, or his mech would be missing a limb or two by now.
"Status?"
"Hip's been hit, I'm hearing some grinding so I think the actuator's broke. Also, my leg is stripped and another shot'll finish it."
"Take cover on the south side of Ferr's ridge."
"Yes sir, hitting jump jets."
Pell arced through the sky, his leg showering the ground with sparks. He landed clunkily behind Ferr, almost tipping over when his leg nearly gave out.

We kept firing.
"I'm out."
"Dance around that Urb, El, and engage the light tanks."
"Yessir."
El's Trebuchet ran down the slope, in a northern slant to stay out of range of the deadly Autocannon.

Not far enough. The cannon roared.
"[censored]!"
"You ok El?"
"Yeah, he missed."
El's Medium Lasers cut into the Urbanmech, and he danced away. Its left arm exploded from the triple-laser barrage.
Another blue streak hit the Urbie, blowing off its leg. It limped along.
I hit its other arm with my Large Laser, destroying that too.
The thing kept coming, as though it was a demonic zombie.

"Die you stupid thing!"
"Why won't it die?"
I scored another hit on its torso, and the beercan finally stopped. It slowly toppled over, blue light flaring as it went supernova like a tiny star.
"Look away guys."
We all shielded our eyes, the enormous amounts of light would stun us, if not damage our eyes badly.
Now the withering firepower was directed to the tanks, and they quickly fell from critical hits.
Only a Bulldog was left.
"Ahhh!"
"El, what's wrong now?"
"Shrek's are in range, those PPCs just flew past my ear."
"All right men, retreat, we've done enough today."
"Affirmative, commander."
"Can't you just say yes?"
"Affirmative, the word is contained within my vocabulary."
El laughed so hard I thought he was going to tip his mech over.
The giant mech feet beat a fierce tattoo as we sprinted towards Omega Vista, home base.

Ahh, yes schreks. Love those little monsters. I use them primarily as support vehicles but even alone, they pack a great punch. But they are most deadly when under human control. The AI doesn't seem to be able to follow the ideal range you set for them that well.

"Boss, wake up. Somethin's happenin."
"El, what's up?"
"Fires."
I sat up immediately, shocked. I ripped the blankets off of my bed and dashed to the window. A glow was emanating from Star City, and other glows marked seperate establishments in different zones.
"They wouldn't sacrifice so many civvies."
"They just did."
Several tanks sped away from the remnants of the city, and fleed to the west, away from Darkfire territory.
"The children..."
El was silent, shaken by my last statement.
I opened the comm and beeped Jyte, after a few seconds he woke up.
"Yea....Cap'n Jy-"
"Jyte, they've burned the cities."
"No, they wouldn't."
"They just did, I want all Nebula forces put on KOS, and convicted of extreme war crimes against humanity."
"Yessir, Council can't refuse this."
Jyte's bleary eyes snapped wider awake from the shock through the commchannel.
"All those innocents..."
"I know, Jyte...."
"I'll be back to New Ficha in a bit, we need to search for survivors and establish them into Omega Vista."
"They'll be comfortable with their own former countrymen."
"Yes."
"Cya soon, Jyte out."
The commchannel cut out.
El was still staring out the window at the glow, his eyes moist.
"Get some sleep, El, we'll need it."
"I will, Searo."
He went back to his room, and I got back into bed, lying awake for a while, unable to sleep knowing that all that destruction was going on.
I stormed out of bed.
"I'm not gonna sit here while those people are shivering in the night, get up people, we need to relocate 'em."
The mechpilots immediately burst from their rooms, obviously none had been able to sleep either.
Ferr was fully dressed, and he even smiled a little, knowing what my orders would be.

The four mechs formed up, and leading emergency vehicles, strode into the inferno.

End of the Lightning War in Darkfire History, as recorded by Captain Searo Ficha...

OOC:Darn bugger got himself deleted, check your empire more often. I figured he didn't counter because of all the tanks, no mechs in there at all besides the urby. And tanks and urbs just don't make a potent assault force.

Well...normally I'd be on your case for the huge bump, but it's my story so...

Pell is the name of Sergeant Pell Tillar, enlisted in the Darkfire Legion and an elite mech pilot.

Sorry to have caused confusion, but there is no reference to Pell's Dominion here. Ask around in chat.
