They ran.
After escaping with that much nevcash, there was nothing to do besides running. The bandit leader knew that, and kept them all at top speed.
He was fleeing in a Thorn, and three switchblades of men followed on his heels. The Switchies were full of roughly 50 million nev-dollars.
Searo was no slow-poke, the Command Lance would be on their tails in about two minutes ago.
The bandit began having regrets, why did he steal from Darkfire, of all empires?
He checked the horizon for a tell-tale dust cloud from the pounding medium mech feet.
Odd, it wasn't there.
Hs small sensors were picking up nothing, but with that blasted Ostscout around he figured that was normal.
"Kinda quiet, eh boss?"
"Shutup you fools, radio silence at all times."
By now it had started to rain. The ground was muddy underfoot, and he cursed.
They were leaving tracks a blind fool could see.
He looked for a canyon, or a ravine, but then abandoned the idea. Pell could find anything with that Ostie. Searo's smirking face haunted him,
"You can run, but you can't hide."
They had almost cleared the border, then they would be safe.
He glanced at radar, and sucked in his breath.
VTOLs.
Darkfire didn't field any VTOLs? What's going on?
"Boss, what's that noise?"
"SHUTUP! VTOLS!"
By the looks of them, they were transports. One matched his speed, and lowered, directly above him. He tried slowing to blast it, but it slowed too.
It was only a few feet away now, he broke into a sweat.
"That's no Darkfire vehicle, boss."
"Yes it is, it's got the FireStorm paintjob."
"No, look at the insignia."
Instead of the black sword over red flames, it was just a novaburst of red and orange fire.
A door in the VTOL opened.
Three more VTOLs hovered over the switchies, and doors opened in them too.
"Wha-?"
Several protomech suits dropped out, and landed with a clang. One stood on the cockpit and waved, before sticking a slab of C-4 on it.
He twisted and jumped, hoping to throw them off. They swayed, the boots having locked on to the small mech.
He cursed.
"Boss! We got explos-AHHH!"
Several thump sounds told of the explosion of the switchblades, and all the loot.
He cursed again, and then forgot about the money as he fought for his own life.
The former leader of a bandit strike, hit his eject button. The tiny cockpit sped into the night, and landed softly in the mud.
The VTOLs landed nearby, and the Protomechs stepped out.
"You have been apprehended by the Inferno Operations, you will not resist, you will be taken into custody."
Several gun barrels lowered at his head, and he raged silently as he was handcuffed and thrown in the VTOL.
The man that waved took his helmet off, and smiled coldly at the prisoner. He had a marked resemblance to Searo, but was much younger.
"Zetro Ficha."
"Yes, and get used to the handcuffs."
"You'll be wearing them a long time."

I made a new empire. Although I'm still trying to figure out where a level 0 gets VTOLs and Protomechs....

Oh, that....
left overs from the clan invasion? Someone in Taskforce: Serpent took them home, then was killed off right where the level 0 started?
oh, wait, this isn't battletech, this is Randytech.
The answer is easy then.
