First off they used the publicly released information of both the FWL There class carrier and the the aborted Kanga class carrier from the Draconis Combine, and the first hand reports from Comstar via the Star League council about the Clans Conqerour class. What was considered first off was cost, so it was decided no LF battery or HPG and the number of dropships was limited to 7, this was the break even point for keeping the design under the 8.2 billion mark. Also the desicion was made not to mount capital grade weapons on the ship, this in turn allowed the design team to use the less expensive single heat sinks, and also to keep the ships secondary weapons cost down, the design team used the spare stockpiles of old tech weapons that can now be found in limited numbers, and for the weapons they needed extra of they bought second hand from the Draconis Combine and the Federated Suns, which have quite of bit on hand, and never ones to snub a possible modest return on these now obeselete weapons they sold them oof to the Outworlds Alliance procurement department. To insure the survivial of their carrier, the design team allowed for a massive 150 structural integrity, which in turn allow the ship to mount 2,459.50 tons of improved ferro-aluminium armor, the best armor the Outworlds Alliance could produce. Overall the Iron Eagle is a versitial ship, capable of matching other more expensive carriers in abilities, but as is so often the case, budget constaints might not even allow for the completion of the first of the class, much less follow on ships.
