The Dinkins Saga continues.

Dinkins could see the sun fighting to show through the thick black smoke that covered the battle field. The fight had only taken an hour but by the looks of the terrain and the amount of smoke one would assume the battle had been raging for days or even weeks. Jim could felt suddenly cold and very sick. His stomach was rumbling now, and he could feel his muscles clenching. Closing his eyes he willed it to stop and tried to remain calm. He started to tremble and sudden rush of bile in his throat caused him to gag hard, but nothing came out. The trembling became worse and Jim fought to maintain control. Reaching into his mouth to remove the tobacco he couldn’t find it. Closing his eyes he realized that in the chaos he had swallowed it. The feeling came again, bile rising, this time Jim didn’t fight it and let it come. He wretched hard once, nothing came, and then a second convulsion. This time he was satisfied with a release. Vomit poured from his mouth, splattering on the floor of the cockpit, small bits of food and other matter hit the controls and left little dots of filth on the canopy. It continued for what felt like an hour, but was only a few moments, before he regained control. His hands shook wildly and his eyes watered. His mouth felt like an open sewer, hot sticky and full of filth. Jim reached for his canteen, it had be sprayed with vomit and looked unappealing. He wiped his nose, and tried to clean the canteen off as best he could. Then, opening it quickly poured the water into his mouth. It was warm, but felt good. He washed it around his mouth for a few moments and then spit it out. Taking another long drink he swallowed and felt it run all the way down into his gut. He felt better, if only for a moment. “Whiskey 6 Delta 5, that’s the last of them, lets head home.” Esau’s voice crackled in Jims ear and he reported in after a moment. “C, Copy that, Whiskey 6 Delta 2, heading home.” Jim took a deep breath and began to head back toward the rallying point. He moved slowly trying not to upset his stomach any more than it already was. The terrain all around him pitched and jerked as he slowly made his way back. Talic came up along side of him looked over. “Hey Kiddo, you ok?” Talic seemed genuinely concerned and it showed in his voice. “Yeah, just feeling a bit under the weather.” Jim tried to play it cool. He knew they would find out, but he didn’t want them to know until he had gotten a shower and could clean the mess up. “Ok, kiddo, lemme know if you need anything.” Jim watched as the marauder picked up speed and passed him. The radio was alive with chatter now. Tony and Christina where jabbering about their respective kills, Jason was singing an old song badly off key. Esau was simply whistling to himself. Sean and the others where going over their damage. From the sounds of it, Jeff Slowenski had taken a rather crippling leg shot and was lagging behind, Sean had an arm blown off, and off to his left Jim could see a Thunderbolt moving parallel to him, with every step a shower of sparks rained down on the ground. Mike was cursing his luck to anybody who would listen. His hip actuator had been almost completely destroyed by a lone short range missile. The techs wouldn’t be happy about that at all Jim thought. Then he realized that his cockpit was full of vomit and smelled so pungent that he was tempted to open his canopy to air it out. He almost did, but as he reached for the release he saw a shattered jeep, the 2 men who had been operating it lay dismembered and burning. Jim decided that the smell in the cockpit was better than what awaited him out there. The trip back to the hanger was uneventful. The attacking pirates had been crushed and wouldn’t return any time soon. Jim could understand why they had done it, and didn’t hate them for it. This was Neveron, no place for the weak. He had seen what pirates and raiders could do to an empire. Talic knew first hand what could happen, he was an oddity on Neveron. His mother had been a member of a Clan, or at least that’s what he told everybody, and his father was a free birth. When he was a young boy a pirate raid had killed his parents and he was found by the raiders. He was taken in by them and grew up as a raider. Then for some reason, known only to him, he left and had since been close, if not next to, Esau. Neither of them talked about it, but both seemed to share something that nobody else did. It wasn’t love, it wasn’t trust, or respect. It was deeper than that. The common theory was that Talic and Esau had almost killed each other in a pitched battle. Jim didn’t know if that was true, but it was a compelling story. What was true however was that Talic was going to take command if Esau ever was unable too. Nobody seemed to mind, everybody respected Talic and trusted him. Jims radio crackled again and he heard the soothing voice of Carol again. “Welcome back everybody, we kept the lights on for ya.” Jim smiled and felt relaxation for the first time in Blake knows how long. Carol continued, “October Papa 1 you are cleared for docking, over.” Jim listened to the angel and sighed happily. “Copy that control,” Esau responded with practiced professionalism.

I had to draw from personal experience on that one. Swallowing your chewing tabacco is not pleasant. That's why I don't do it that often any-more.

Tobbaco is possible the most insidious thing in the world. All the time we hear about how America misstreated the indians but between the casinos and the fact the have killed off millions with tobbaco I feel they have evened the score with the white man.

laugh, this from one of the larger drinkers on Nev. . . And it could be argued that Rum took out the native americans more solidly than a cavalry charge ever could. Alcoholism is still one of the largest causes of poverty and health issues on reservations.

For the record, I liked it a great deal Mr. Denkins has quite the ability in his 'hammer, eh? Though, I imagine that battle would have taken 'it' out of any pilot.
