I was curious what ya'll's thoughts on priming were. Good idea, bad idea? If you do, what do you use? Etc.

I have one for you...don't use Citadel dark grey.
It comes out one of two ways...clumpy or thin.

I dont use primer at least the way it should be used. I fully paint the mech with my base color the I color in panels, wash,& drybrush etc. I've never noticed any chiping or other effects with the exception with those Ral Partha half metal half plastic garbage they came out with.

The suggestion I had been given and had intended to use was to spray paint the mini with a flat black laquer and then dry brush the rest of my color on. But I was kinda hoping to avoid having to spray paint just because of it being a hassle.

I tried the spray paint thing once all it did was run all over the place and hide alot of the detail. At least that is what happened with testors spray paint. I tried it several times, allways ending with the same result.

I have found the key, for me, for using spraypaint is to keep the can 10 to 12 inches back from the fig. I get a nice thin coat that way. I use a flat acrylic. Sometimes Testors, sometimes Citadel, or sometimes cheap Wal Mart 99 cent can
