Public message max

Yesterday I logged in to find that the first four messages we're all writen by the same person (you know who he is). I don't care about some lvl 11 empire whos emporer doesn't have anything better to do than post messages about his own empire.

Increasing the cost to post a public message on nevmail would mostly discourage the smaller empires, which can make just as mouch use of it; therefore, a limit to the number of messages an empire can post over a certain time period should be imposed.

I propose that a maximum of ten messages/empire/week should be instituted to keep empires from spamming the public nevmail.

50 messages/week is enough messages/week to provide any individual playing neveron with all the emergency messages they need and then some for RPing and whatnot if they don't waist more than two on telling everyone about their new technique for spreading butter.

I would agree, but it would have to be large enough that it would not hamper empires during a large scale war between larger empires. After these wars there is usually some sort of land transfer, and I could see how there might be several in a short period of time between different empires that might all need to be confirmed. In addition, sometimes people mess up their message and need to send it again.

Do like I do, just don't bother reading it. That is unless you want to laugh at the gross errors in spelling, and the constant whining about 'losing' logins....

Sorry, but as it is, I rarely if ever post a public nev mail, I don't find it necessary to share with the world when everything goes wrong.

I do agree it is annoying to open nev mail and find 15 messages from the same person, but no one is forcing any of us to read it. I also realize it takes forever to load the mail page with 56k when it is like that, but once again, we don't have to read it.

I basically oppose an all around nev mail limit, if it were limited to only public mails then I *might* agree.

Perhaps making an other public mail one for these such post...I don't mind reading Chett's crazy posts...in moderation of course , but reading who's attacking/threatening who is what I want see.(could be useful, like stated before, for those on dial-up). Maybe even use the spam rules for chat?
What about alliance/multi-faction wide Nev-mails (for defence of people who aren't in your faction)?

Didn't it used to be 500k? Oh well, putting a limit would be good. Though I don't think chetter would be too happy. I'd feel sorry for his faction:)

how about a separate vhetter mail section, only a "certain person" may post there, and even more inmportant the "certain person" may only post there.

Heh, forgot to include the word "public" before "mail". I ment for it only to apply to public mails.

Not a good idea in the case of some faction or alliance leaders, you need to be able to announce land transfers to not ignite wars, etc.

Personaly I think it's time we had a dedciated Nevamil moderator to sift through it all. Nevmail for me is extremely frustrating to try and read, I really, really, really don't care for the 13million squared messages saying "TO empire XXX here is how you lost your unit in a duel". I think it's fairly obvious, if you get dumped to the overview you lost and if the pilot is gone he sucked a head shot. I'd like to think most Neveronians weren't so retarded they could work this out themselves.

Then again the admins could always, I don't know, fix it so that the loser gets the last round of combat messages in his popup but then again when have the admins ever really bothered adding something which is useful without being critical?

There also needs to be a bit more of bitchslapping on the out of character posts. A moderator would be handy just removing them which would stop the admins having to fine empires for it though it would amuse me no end to see Chet slapped down with a big fine for all his ooc rants over the past few weeks.

I agree.

Especially on the OOC rants that have become a part of every day life lately. Leave real world issues at home, or in the forums. Nev mail is for IN GAME ROLEPLAYING.

Anther thing is the "you lost duel due to ________" messages. Unnecessary. I know it was either ammo crit or head shot. Secondly, I don't need you rubbing it in that I got mugged by the RNG again. I'm already in a foul mood after losing, reading about it in nev mail only makes my mood worse. So those messages are truly uneccessary.

A limit of messages/empire/week would be a little troublesome. Rather, I think that there should be a "time-between-nevmails" concept, much like what some forums have. Say, at least 1 minute after a nevmail is sent, you can send another. Trying to start a nevmail before the one minute limit expires just gets you an error message stating that you have to wait a while longer.

Considering that we are still working through the shakedown phase after the hacker attack - meaning mucho bugs left right and center - and considering that there are much larger and "juicer" features also being developed (like macro-terrain), this should probably be a "low priority" change.

In the meantime, it would not hurt for people to start exercising discretion. A small paragraph describing proper uses of nevmail (which is supposed to be roleplaying, as has been mentioned) right on the COMMS page would help remind people to use discretion.

I've never seen a factionleader send more than 5 public mails/day dealing with a war. If they know that they're going to need to anounce multiple things, they can wait and put them all into one message.

Situations could arise when you need to correct your last public message before too many people see it.

If you could edit your public mails it would reduce the ammount of public mails by itself and would solve the problem with the "time-between-nevmails" suggestion; however, minimum time intervals between nevermails don't solve the problem of having two many nevmails to go through every you log in time as directly as a public nevmails/week/empire limit would. If someone really wanted to, they could post a lot of public nevmails in a day.
