War of the FireStorm
      #77243 - 11/28/03 06:24 PM (66.82.9.32)

So follows the account of the FireStorm War as written by Searo Ficha, the 1st Emperor of the Darkfire Empire, and as set down in the Annals of History by the Scholars of Omega Vista...

We touched down about 20 kilos below the capital city, Bismarck. 5 battle-ready mechs, and a lance of tanks for backup.
Pell Tillar, our recon man, went on ahead to scout the following zone. Intelligence reported enemies in the zone, and we sent him in.
Pell maintained constant radio chatter, and his Ostscout, the Magellan, sprinted to the middle of the zone. He picked up a lone tower on radar.
I thought of his single Medium Laser for defence, and worriedly asked, "You need backup Pell?"

He replied calmly, "Negative, Searo, this thing don't have weapons."
He strode up to it and opened fire with his only laser. The tiny tower was soon rubble, and the territory was ours. Pell scouted ahead and claimed another stretch of land that was enemy-free.
"Alright, Command Lance, all clear from here to Bismarck, move on up while I scout the capital city."
"Roger that."
Pell entered the treacherous terrain of Bismarck, and immediately picked up several units on his sensors.
"Yeah, we got 'bout ten vehicles, mostly packing LRMs of some sort, and one light mech, and a few platoons of infantry. I think we can take 'em without tank support."

"Alrighty, you heard the man, El, Ferr, and Tolak, move in," I said.

Tolak Feldar was a new mech recruit. He was young, energetic, and a tad green, but I trusted him to pilot my old mech, a Phawk fondly called the Flameseeker.

I was drivin' a brand new Griffin 1-N, painted in the fearsome FireStorm scheme like every other Darkfire unit. We quickly reached Bismarck, and met up with Pell as he got out of the combat zone.
"Good luck guys," he told us, and I detected a hint of gladness in his voice that said "I'm glad I ain't goin' in there."
El had taken the Panther for this mission, and the enigmatic Ferr Jando was in <i>Treb</i>, our Trebuchet. Tolak, as I have already said, completed the lance in his Phawk.

I sent an official Declaration of War, and we began the Battle of Bismarck.

(Whoops, looks like I didn't put it on HTML and UBBCode)

The terrain wasn't so nice, I noticed. Huge ridges cut across the plains in a random pattern, with a few lowlands to pass from. It's a good thing all my mechs have Jumpjets, we can hop up to those sniper spots real easy.

El and his Panther quickly fell behind, and the good-natured pilot cursed it over the comm. Tolak got too far ahead, and we told him to hold position while we caught up, particularly Elyon.

The enemy was at the other end of the battlefield, but finally we came near the first defenders. An SRM-J infantry, a Stinger mech, and a Packrat off in the distance.

A ridge towered above the Stinger and the Packrat, but the platoon was up there waiting for us. Tolak, Ferr, and I all hit our jumpjets and landed near the infantry. It ducked behind a building and only Tolak had visual. El was lagging behind again, but he quickly jetted on to the ridge as well.

Several SRM missiles streaked into our Phoenix Hawk. Tolak cursed, and opened up with his lasers. Only a couple of them hit, instantly incinerating the poor men they touched. I jetted over Tolak and landed with sight on the enemy platoon. Ferr did the same with his Trebuchet.

El was still behind the building, and did not have sight on the infantry.
"Tolak, take the Stinger, we'll handle this platoon with our longer-range weapons."
"Roger."

Tolak sped off at full tilt to engage the enemy Stinger. The Stinger ran, but the swift Flameseeker easily pursued it, blasting it with lasers.

We cleaned up the infantry after a few SRM hits, but nothing serious. All three of us took up sniper positions on the top of the hill, and began raining death on the packrat and fleeing Stinger.

The packrat tried to flee, but was immobilized by my PPC shot. The Stinger also died quickly, with two LRM racks and a medley of Lasers hammering it.

Tolak kept going north-east of the ridge, and found another infantry platoon. He opened fire and it also launched its SRMs.
"AHHHHHH!"
I saw the missiles streak into the Flameseeker's torso, and then saw the sparks that accompanied an engine blow-out.
The mech reeled, and then blasted away with jumpjets from the infantry platoon.
"Guys, my heat's not goin' down."
"What? Your engine's hit, that's all. Just sit tight and wait for it to cool off."
"It's gettin' awful hot in here."
"Stop firing your stupid jumpjets then. Ferr, El, go give him support."
Tolak was hit bad, and his heatsinks were malfunctioning badly. No heat wasn't dissipating, and the overheating engines quickly shut the mech down.
"Just our luck..."

(A lucky SRM shot critted the Phawk's engine, which double-critted, which created ten heat per turn, which is the number of heatsinks the mech has, so he was stuck there at 24 heat)

Very nice, though I have one minor quibble:

Quote:

Tolak, Ferr, and I all hit our jumpjets and landed near the infantry. It ducked behind a building

Infantry platoons may seem like a single entity on the battle map, but we must remember that we are talking about a group of 28 people. Perhaps "They" would be a better pronoun?

These platoons were obviously bio-mechanical cyborgs due to their unnerving ability to crit my mech's engine twice.

Who hasn't fired their incompetent humans and replaced them with cyborgs anyway?

Tolak was effectively out of the battle for now. The remaining mechs of our lance should be able to destroy the last defenders, I thought.
El jetted away from the ridge and north of Tolak's downed mech. The SRM platoon fled, not wanting to push their luck after that incredible hit.

Ferr followed in his Trebuchet, and engaged another Packrat coming down us from the north-east.
I heard the silent warrior curse over the comm.
"Outta LRMs, Captain."
"Can ya make do with your lasers?"
"Will do, sir."

I stayed in my sniper position and El moved the Panther to a small hill. To the north, a Scorpion was bearing down on his position. Ferr was also chasing the Packrat to the north, firing all three lasers in devastating salvoes. The scorp paid no attention to him.

Elyon had pinned down a Hunter behind a building, I had visual, so I began blasting it with my PPC and LRMs. Meanwhile, an enemy Scorpion and TX-LRM had moved into position on the other end of my ridge. A higher plateau blocked us from seeing each other, but they had visual on El's Panther. He began trading shots with them.

I finished off the Hunter and sprinted up to a higher plateau on my ridge. This gave me visual on the TX-LRM, a particularly nasty little tank that was spewing missiles all over the map. I opened fire and turned in to slag pretty quick. I then turned my sights to the nearby scorpion.

Our Panther began firing at the scorpion up north, which had been hiding behind an infantry platoon until now. Ferr's Trebuchet had caught up to the Packrat at the far northern edge of the battlefield and incinerated it with an alpha-strike.

After dispatching the Scorpion, I noticed a switchie fleeing west on sensors. I let it be for now, as it was moving too fast and was far out of sight from my ridge. I jetted off my ridge and began moving across the valley to a new sniper position.

El's Panther finished off the scorpion and began to move north to meet up with Ferr. The remaining infantry platoon turned and ran away, filled with terror as the two giants chased after them. We had visual with one Hunter tank hiding behind a small ridge. Ferr and El began circling north-west to get a visual on the sole survivor.

I reached a high peak overlooking the Hunter. My first shots crippled the tanks movement and turret, and stunned the crew. Then Ferr opened up with his lasers, and the small tank erupted in a furious explosion.

"Alright boys, we got this won."
"Don't celebrate so fast, I saw a Switchie headin' west."
"Coward, come and fight us."
"I dunno Ferr, I think he's doin' the right thing. I mean, what would you do if three giant mechs pursued your lil midgety jeep?"
We all chuckled over the comm, and headed west at full-tilt after the switchie. We quickly caught up with it and opened fire.
Tolak's voice sounded worried over the commlink, "It's really getting toasty in here, and I think the machine gun belts are-"
His voice cut off and a giant explosion rocked the battlefield. All three of us cussed violently at the same time, and then fell silent. From here, I could see the switchblade crew hesitate for a second, paying their respects, and then resume evasive manuevers.

In a trance, I hit the tiny vehicle with my PPC, almost as an afterthought. It collapsed in a tiny inferno.

"Call in the LCs, head back to base. I'll call in the Tank Defense and Tower Crews."
We waited there silently as the giant crafts came to pick us up. All of us were grieving for our lost comrade. The pilots greeted us with a huge grin, which faded when they counted the number of friendly mechs left.

I took one last look at the giant crater and smoking husk where Tolak last was, and then turned away. I am not ashamed to say a tear trickled down my cheek as I remembered him.

We landed at New Ficha, and I ordered a holiday and celebration. I also had the unfortunate duty of informing the Feldar family. Jyte popped into the room, saw my expression, and then left to prepare the tank and tower defences.
I picked up the comm, and ordered a bronze statue of the Flameseeker with Tolak waving from the cockpit.
"Sir, this will be a pretty penny, it should run ya 'bout-"
"I don't care, build it."

I then hung up, and collected myself for a moment before I called the family.
"This is Captain Searo, and I regret to inform you, but..."

Me well....I have Humans still just they wear the latest in Starsiege Armor . And Ace I have to say your lucky, I cant get into a LW w/o starting a faction war sadly i need the ability to do so(That is LW).

My last war was early this year, I dubbed it The: Crimson Sky war.
It started by a mistake by me, I attacked Genyosha, their guard dog went after me, after 5 days worth of fighting had left my empire Crippled, I lost at least 20 Units in those five days, he decided I was a worthy warrior and offerd me a kinda merc contract to redeam my self(But never got fufilled due to politics). After that I was weak and Borrissains(I think atleast)Attacked me and left me with only 3 zones ...........

oops.....gota bit of course there. Sorry

Well this guy doesn't have a faction, but the absence of a tag on his name screams "Hit me! I don't have a faction! I'm a fat target!"

Andrew, thanks for buying my gecko, hehe.

Press Release-4/4/3233-10:00AM News Special

A harried news reporter appears in front of the camera, visibly shaken, and close to tears. Flames leap in the distance. Smoke fills the skies, and citizens fill the streets.

"This is Reporter Kendrea Helm, of the DNN and I'm two miles out from the former capital, New Ficha.

Reports are coming in, the Emperor is killed, his son is MIA, mech lances destroyed, outlying cities of New Dalaran, Korhal City, all gone. Oh god..."

The screen flickers. A young man with smoldering brown eyes appears. Soot stains his jumpsuit and he is in front of a ruined Pegasus. He is pale and his eyes are damp. The words Emergency Bulletin flash across the screen...

"This is Emperor Captain Searo Ficha Jr. I was reported dead but I survived the explosion."

The camera zooms out from his face and attempts to view the Emperor's legs. Searo Jr. shakes his head and tilts the camera back up...

"Reports are true. All cities have fallen except for Kalimdor. Yes, the emperor was killed. We do have surviving mech and tank forces. I cannot clarify at this moment."

The young man hisses in pain, and the broadcast ends. The screen flickers again and shows the female reporter, jaw agape, staring at a nearby holovid. She recovers her composure.

"T-this is Kendrea, of the DNN, reporting from....."
She breaks down, the screen cuts out.
