okay... so i really wanted to play MW2:Mercs. So I got out my old (pre-titanium old) game CD, installed it, got the v 1.1 patch, and ran the game. it crashed. hard. i can't get it to work. i think that this might have something to do with the fact that i'm running windows 2000, but i'm not sure. anyone out there got any ideas/suggestions?

Upgrade to Service Pack 4 for Win2k and install newest DX9 or later driver, after this is done you should be comparable to WXP for game play.

yeah.. i checked the 'windows update' page, and i've got all the upgrades i can. i guess MW2:Mercs just isin't compatible with technology in the 21st century. thanks for the help anyway though.

You're not gonna get MW2 or MW2:Mercs to run on Windows XP or Windows 2000, sorry... it's because MW2 (and MW2:Mercs) were created to run on the Win95 kernell. They crash rarely on Win98, which uses a modified kernell... Windows 2000 and Windows XP use the Windows NT 4.1 kernell (at least, I think 2000 is 4.1) which MW2 was never designed to run on.

Er, if I lost you with "Kernell" it's the core of operating system, the "nerve center" if you will. It processes all the .dll files and tells the computer what's going to happen when, runs games etc. So, when the kernell isn't what a game is made to run on it'll give commands that can, and will, crash the game quite frequently.

Only way I've encountered to fix this is to dig up an archaic system, say a 133+Mhz Pentium II with about 64MB RAM and install Win95 or Win98 on it. If you find anything else though, let me know!
