The modifications also served a psychological role, demonstrating that the Alliance naval program could stand on its own by producing a tough, powerful design. As with most new Inner Sphere WarShip designs, parts for the massive interplanetary drive were a problem, especially after the seizure of Terra by the Word of Blake. Fortunately, the Alliance was able to direct its industrial might to solve the problem, subcontracting manufacturing to companies across the Alliance with final assembly at the SLDF-era Port Sydney Naval yards at Alarion. The process was both expensive and a logistical nightmare, but it allowed the LAAF to bootstrap its WarShip program. As with much in the Lyran military, the Mjolnir, named for Thor’s hammer in Teutonic mythology, relies on mass and firepower - though the ship possesses surprising maneuverability. It can accelerate at 3 Gs, which is comparable with designs half its mass. Batteries of the heaviest naval autocannons and Gauss cannons form the principle offensive armament, backed by a formidable array of conventional weapons for anti-fighter defense Problems with the sensor suite and the sail-reefing assembly limited the role of the one operational Mjolnir, the LAS Yggdrasil, in the civil war. The second vessel - the Fylgja - remains uncompleted at Alarion. The Tir varient of the Moljinir came about due to the capture of the Yggdrasil by WiE forces during the recent civil war, the lack of proper aerospace support was one of the factors of the ships capture, besides the many mechanical problems the ship was plagued with. In order to partialy remidy this problem the Archon Peter, ordered the revamping of the procurement and quality assurance departments of the Lyran Aliance Naval Command, while at the same time ordering a carrier varient of the Molijnir but that the ship was to carry nearly the same amount of heavy firepower as the originail design, while at the same time increasing the ships armor and secondary battery of of weapons. These three feats was accomplished simplier than orginaily thought to be the removal of the designs Heavy Naval Gauss rifles proved to be the key to the quandry, with the removal of the Gauss, enough tonnage was freed up to upgrade the ships fighter compliment from 36 fighters to 120 fighters, more than making up for the loss of of the Heavy Gauss. The problem with the increase of armor was simplified by a easier means but by a way that had the money loving and frugal procurment department having near epiletic fits, upgrading the armor from Ferro Carbide to the more expensive but more capable Lamellor Ferro Carbide. The upgrading of the designs secondary weapons was accomplished by the simply expident of swapping out exsisting weapons with those of a more capable nature, such as replacing the Er Large Lasers with ER PPC's, the upgrading of the ships SRM-6's to that of Streak technology. The exsisting battery of LRM Launchers was deemed sufficient to the revised upgrade and left intact, but the major change of the secondary battery came in the form of Small Pulse Lasers and Heavy Gauss Rifles, the Small Pulse laser's came from the result of overstock from Defiance industries, this was due to the new series of designs coming out that called for the use of ER Laser tech instead of Pulse Laser tech , hence the addition of a battery of 48 Small Pulse lasers to the ship at a reduced cost factor. The addition of the Heavy Gauss Rifles to the ships Secondary battery came as a slight surprise, mainly due to the fact that the orginaly specs called for Gauss Riles and not heavy Gauss Rifles to be used for the desgin, but due to the flurry of change at the procurment department, a little typo resulted in the delivery of the 16 Heavy Gauss Rifles, the ship yard workers just simply shrugged their shoulders, thinking that a design modification was order, so they just simply expanded the bays of the exsisting bays for the gauss rifles, in order to refit the Heavy Gausss Rifles into the design. After the snafu was found out the designers just simply kept the unauthorised modification to the design (which worked out better than thought) than reporting the problem to High Command, who was under constant pressure from Archon Peter, for making sure no problems with the new ship occured. Suprising enough the new design came together smoother than the first, but this was due mostly to the fact that the designers and the shipyards now had the expertise needed to work with large ship's after the painfull experience gained form the Moljinir Battlecruisers. So what came into being was the Tyr Class Battlecruiser/Carrier, a near twin of the Moljiner Class, but in some ways a superior design, while the ship is more expesive, mostly due to the of a prtable HPG being added to the class, this was needed for the fact that the new ship was more than likely to form the core of any Task Forces and would need the increased communications capability, thus transforming the ship from a God of Lightnings, to a true God of War.
