Using the various House and ClanSource Manuals, TRO 3057, and TR0 3067 and regardless of faction, clan or house, what ships would you choose to be in a 7 shiip carrier taskforce for the battletech universe, and please do not use personal designs for this question, I am trying to actualy be serious on this one.

Thera, Thera, Thera, Avalon, Avalon, Avalon, Avalon.

Theras can almost take care of themselves and the Avalon makes a good escort. No need to diversify beyond that.

True but the point was for a carrier task force similar to the 7 ship force that the US navy uses, which by the way only has one carrier in it and also smaller ships ranging from cruisers to frigates.

Then 1 Thera and 6 Mjolnirs.

Including a range of escort ship sizes makes sense in RL, but AT2 isn't real life. In AT2, ship cost has nothing to do with ship size or firepower. You can build a half dozen 2.5-megaton dreadnoughts (custom) for the price of a Fox corvette. Since the Avalon is only fractionally more expensive than the Fox...and, oops, the Mjolnir is even cheaper than the Fox...

Hence, one Thera and a group of Mjolnirs. There's no reason to use smaller ships. They're not cheaper, they're not faster, and since they can be more expensive, more lightly armored, more lightly armored, and sometimes slower...shoot, the Mjolnir's a pretty sweet escort choice.

They are a nice ship, but lets face it who has 6 Moljiners laying around for a escort group, cmon Cray use the grey matter a bit concerning the state of naval forces overall in the inner sphere, they would use a variety of ships to fufill the needed task force, the Star League in particular.

heh just thought I'd add something, well a few smethings.
1. I think Cray makes some valid points.
2. don't expect alot of activity on a Battlesapce poll style question. I mean you two are really the only people active, along with a few of us whom check in. Kinda pointless to have a two person disagreement cause there is no one here for the middle ground, unless either of you decide to simply concede.
I find that 'pinpoint' accuracy during a bombing run increases proportionally with the amount of munitions used.

Hey, hey, hey... don't stop 'em. It's like a hockey fight--no one really wants the ref to stop it.

Its like a hockey fight with no teams and just two lone players, course that makes it better right! Good point i take back what i said....

And this comes from the person who mixed-and-matched naval forces from several non-allied factions. I mean, Davion Avalons, Steiner Mjolnirs, Marik Theras and Comstar/WoB Dantes in one task force? That's about as probable as a Thera and 6 Mjolnirs (and costs the same, and is less effective).

Obviously, you're not interested in an effective AT2 carrier battle group, or a realistic one. You want one that fits an old wet navy aesthetic of some sort. Since I don't share that aesthetic, I'm going to leave my last suggestion (Thera and 6 Mjolnirs) as my final response and take leave of this design challenge.

Okay, lets back up abit bit on this one, first off to Cray sorry about that one commit, I used to be in the Navy so I do have a tendency of thinking in wet navy concepts and tactics, but you do have a point 1 THera and 6 Moljiners would be a effective force for battletech, so I accept the force mix and wont argue the point, instaed will say thanks for the participation.

Ok, for a Star League Style Carrier Task Force, I'd set the following:

1 Riga Class Carrier
2 Whirlwind Class Destroyers
2 Congress Class Frigates
1 Black Lion Class Battlecrusier
1 Texas Class Battleship
