The Mycrosian Provisional Government has passed a new "Citizen Arsenal Act" as a means of providing some additional defense against potential pirate attacks. The Arsenal Act calls for the creation of stockpiles of infantry weapons to be deployed in each Mycrosian city, which will be issued to citizens in the event of attack. Exact size of these stockpiles is being withheld for security reasons, but the Act's proponents claim the amounts are "considerable".
Etienne Charest, commander of the Mycrosian Military and the architect of the Act, told reporters he was pleased with the decision, but Chairman Theodore Ross was unavailable for comment.
Mycrosian citizens themselves remain passive about the decision, and are more concerned with the fact that the Provisional Government continues to drag its feet in holding elections or reviving the Constitution. It has been almost a nevyear since the Provisional Government took over from the Generals Committee that had itself seized power after Councillor Crisp's untimely death.
In a related story: Police arrested a lone man at the Government building in Dyson today, who was staging a protest over the circumstances surrounding Crisp's death. The man, whose identity is being withheld, claimed that the Provisional Government is not telling the whole truth about the "disappearance" of the former leader, and called Chairman Ross a "usurper and collabarator". The police have not yet released a statement on the incident.
