oh for crying out loud.
      #87393 - 03/16/04 09:30 PM (156.34.215.216)

there goes another of my backup empires. only had one zone, was trying to build up nice and even. i was starting to save up to buy another zone somewhere else and split my assets, but i log in today to find out that while my wsp-1d, savvie, and 4 srm jeeps were in training, i got hit by pirates and lost my only zone
this zone, by the way, had been surrounded by a level 5 empire by the name of [DoG] PowerPuffGirls
so now what happens when my units come out of training? right now it shows all of their locations as land of the dispossessed...
2 empires down to pirates now... and i didnt get to fight them at all, even though i take care of my empires twice a day (before and after work) and try to keep them well defended.

and, of course, since pirates captured "all" of my (one) zones, it unclaimed my zone, and now i gotta wait for another 15mil or so before i can reclaim zones and get back on my feet.

iirc, I think as soon as you get a new zone your units will be moved to the new zone.

for future reference, you may want to only train at most 1/2 of your army at a time.

Don't train everything at once, even half is bad idea. Pirates aren't the only thing that can kill you when you're sleeping. And yes, when you are able to claim a zone your units will move there.

i did have a couple other vehicles not in training, but they got toasted. cant remember now what all it was that i had, but if the pirates hit me with lots of infantry like they did to my friend, those lil pissant vechs wouldnt have helped. (jeeps on abr or ai get pwned)

Jeeps are nothing more than missile absorbers anyway, don't waste money on them if you are looking for fighting units. I say that and I sell the things for profit. LOL

yeah, pretty much
far as i'm concerned any light vehicle is nothing more than a decoy to draw fire away from the big guns
besides that, i've always been sort of a laser whore, so anything that requires ammo is below standard quality for me. of course, in little pissant crit-catcher vechs, ammo isnt a problem, as few vechs survive long enough for it to become one.

Hunters in large groups are pretty frightening.

Hunters Strikers and Scorpions together make for interesting defense. Put a few TX-LRM's on the heights and set the scorpions to range 5 the strikers to 9 and the hunters to 10 and watch the mayhem. In groups with a few heavy units and some 2x range towers make for good defense if you can get em to 2 gun or below. The attackers cannot afford to ignore that pissant vehicles to concentrate on towers or LRM vehicles, because of the in your face swarm.

add some infantry just to cause them trouble and you have one hell of an agressive defence......

expensive, but useful.

Yeah except infantry is way to expensive on maint. for what you get. I keep a couple of companies of Jump SRM just for the times I need to jump into a zone but don;'t feel I need to hotdrop mechs. These work well in city zones as you can preplace them in buildings unlike vehicles and it makes them almost impossible to see until the fire, and cf150 buildings make them last quite awhile.

yeah, that was the only way i could think of to make inf useful against anything with better than 1 mp
also, i found out recently that you can hide mechs inside buildings
there's a move penalty going in and out of them, but if your pilot is even mildly decent it shouldnt be a problem.
if mechs in buildings can effectively hide from radar and maybe even LOS, then you can set up some really nice ambushes, so long as you have some bait units to draw them in.

Well mechs can enter buildings but I don't think you can pre-position them there... but I haven't honestly tried. Infantry however can be pre-positioned in a building and given defend orders..... makes an effective pillbox.

Was there not a update saying that inf in buildings were kicked out of building at the start of battle?

The idea being to stop infantry being impossible for even ravens to find ..
