------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ==Overview:== The Fed Com Civil War put a tremendous pressure on industry to keep up production of new mechs and demand rapidly exceeded availablity.
Among the hardest hit were mercenary units, who found it very hard to replace losses in the field, which in turn impaired their fighting ability and prospects of employment to replace their mechs.
The Lancaster was designed to be a cheap and effective assault mech, ideally suited for mercenary troops. It uses a lot of commonly available parts and is is designed to survive longer than the mediums and heavies most mercenary units deploy.
The orginal design was designed at the height of the Clan invasion and used more advanced components, but as this danger subsided, the Randam Mechwerks engineers removed the advanced XL engine and FF-armour to cut costs and keep the mech extremely competitive on the open market.
==Capabilities:== The Lancaster was designed as a suitable assault mech for mercenaries. It is cheap to produce, uses many commonly available components and doesn use fancy systems like XL engines or advanced electronics. It is extremely well armoured and mounts a brace of long range weapons, allowing the Lancaster to engage the enemy at range and provide fire support for screening units.
The main weaponry is energy based, mounting a pair of ER large lasers and an ER PPC backed up with a pair of LRM15 launchers, which can make use of the many ammo types currently available in the inner sphere.
Endurance is rarely a problem with the Lancaster. Mounting several heavy energy weapons and with 16 reloads per LRM launcher protected by CASE, it can remain in the field for extended periods. It also mounts the highest amount of armour the internal structure can possibly support.
Lancaster pilots are often paired with lighter, faster units to act as a screening force. Its only real vulnerabilty is its speed. At around 54kph it cannot advance rapidly, but as this is a long range fighter this is rarely a problem and should an opponent close in, it can engage the enemy at close range with its lasers and PPC and has two fully functional hand actuators that allow the mech to best all but the heaviest opponents in hand to hand combat.
==Variants:== The original 1V Lancaster used an XL engine that increased the speed to nearly 65kph, allowing it to keep up with most assault mechs, including clan designs. It also mounted ferro fibrous armour, but dropped the CASE system for the LRM ammo and mounts 15.5 tons of ferro-fibrous armour.
Small batches of the original were produced before the switch to the simpler 2V version and many ended up the Lyrian Alliance and Draconis Combine on the Clan border.
==Deployment== Lancasters are found mostly in the Federated Commonwealth with units serving both factions. Only small numbers have been spotted in other Houses. The 1V version, much rarer is seen mostly on the borders with Clan space.

Personally, I'd scrap the dual ER Large Lasers and equip it with a second ER PPC, give the LRMs Artemis IV, and add a heat sink.
The only other thing that really occurs to me is that you should use Endo Steel in preferance to Ferro-Fibrous. Endo Steel saves you a lot more mass than Ferro-Fibrous, so from a design standpoint it's always better. OTOH, some people just prefer other equipment.
Yea, verily. Let it be known far and wide that Nightward loathes MW: DA. Indeed, it is with the BURNING ANIMUS OF A THOUSAND SUNS that he doth rage against it with.

The design seemed to be aimed more at Mercenaries within the FedCom theatre of operations. With this in mind, the lack of Artemis is a good choice thus dropping expenditure on almost useless ammo.
Ferro from a mercs standpoint is expensive though as I have outlined elsewhere is far easier to modify a chassis from standard to ferro and vice-versa than standard internal and endo-steel. This could possibly be a unit that could be retrograded if supply of the high-tech parts could not be established. This would be a very important asset in that regard.
A tad slow to be trying to keep up with the bulk of mercenary troops is my main problem with the unit. You get this pretty much as soon as you change to the assault chassis though..

This is the 1V original, probably useful for the larger, more affluent units and regular units.

One other thing, it has a nice tie into the BT universe since it's a reworked mech that was on the boards and then brought back. Nice.
