the general layout of the map is still the same, + the noob island, but i dont think the centre is 0,0

First point about that map [zoom 4], is that I dont believe its an actual map of current empires, like zoom 1 is. Zoom 4 Map I think is more like a .jpg file / picture, taken of Neveron a very long time ago. It was meant to show more of a overview of where certain alliances had formed up, and where larger empires had spread out, etc etc. If you try to compare the zoom 4 map, to the zoom 1 map set to 0,0...you can tell that there is a lot more land south of 0,0 than the zoom 4 map seems to show. So it does not appear that the center of Zoom 4, is actually 0,0.

Another point to consider, is the coordintes are really only used as a means to identify one zone from another. There is no advantage to have one zone over another based on location to the center, or outer edge etc.

Some players will actually prefer to find a zone that may be surrounded by water, to limit an attackers number of options when attacking that zone.

Another feature that makes a zone more valuable than another would be if infrastucture can be built upon it. When Neveron first started, you could build infra on any zone, if you were willing to pay for itwith Donation Points [DP]. Now however, you can only add additional buildable spaces to existing buildable zones. So several buildable zones in a small cluster might make a zone more appealing than another.

I also believe that the coordinates 0,0 are the 'location' of all the Arena Duels, and the empire that owns that zone, also collects all the salvage that is remaining after the duels end. So from that perspective, there is a slight advantage to owning that EXACT zone.

So regardless of where the 'center' of Neveron is, it affects game play very little for most players.

0,0 is in the center of the largest continent (the main "NW" one). The "original" continent that is, which is smaller than is shown there.

Incidentally not many people know what the colors represented. Back in the very very earliest days of Neveron there were eight player run "Baronies". The borders all crossed 0,0 where they met like spokes. It was unusual for empires to have territory outside their own Barony, so the map back in 2002 was very coordinated, unlike the photo in this thread with colors splashed all over the map. The largest and most prestigious empires in the game were color coded (they were mostly Barons, but a few non Baronial empires were color coded as well). Huge amounts of land were owned back then, by size empires were far far larger than they are today.

With the death of the Barony system in November, 2002, the Star League War of Nov-Dec 2002 (Nev's first large scale war), and the early 2002-2003 transition of Nev from an arena-ffa game into an actual wargame, the colors spread across the map.

It would be interesting to get a wide angle photo taken of today's map, with yesterday's empires/colors. I am sure the map would be far less colorful.

Read this thread and got curious. The dueling arena is not actually in 0,0 . It is on an island with one zone claimed by a high lvl empire no where really near 0,0. Guess the 0,0 controlling empire just gets credit for it.

To be honest I never tried to verify where the arena actually is. I simply refered to this message, which is listed along the top of the Arena Standings page...

"Total award this nevmonth to the owner of zone (0,0) The Honorable Nevlord Director-General John Roshak of Hegemony Research and Development: $ 29,119,268"

I am curious tho, how did you determine that the arena was on this island zone, and where is this zone actually?

When I lose a duel, it throws me back to main emp screen. before screen updates, shows zone no where near any of mine or oppenents zones. The island zone theory came about when going into and out of FFA, which is also not located near or at 0,0
Don't want to post empire names in open forum at this time, as I do not want to cause any undue problems for said empire.

The zone the arena is run seems to be specific to the empire that creates the duel.
