Neveron Outages

During the last several months Neveron has been struggling to stay online. It has been on and off constantly. Systems [like training and battle resolution] eventually degrade and crash, until the next Admin reboot. There have been weird errors and messages. It would work easier for some people than others. Some configurations seemed to work when others wouldnt [www2.neveron.com for example].

It appears that Wayward_Son has finally nailed down what the major issues are. Due to changes in his real life, his time to work on Neveron has been limited, so trouble shooting issues takes longer than ever.

He sent me an email today with this explanation:

Hey guys. The situation is this. Neveron is down to 1 UPS battery backup and that one has been failing under the load. There was a conflating issue where previous network admins hadn't documented our IP usage and so the newer guys recoded all that stuff recently and coded us straight out of an IP block. This meant that the servers were up but nobody could actually get to them, so they thought I was crazy when I kept calling and asking to get them back online. In any case, I got things straightened out last week but it appears that the UPS is not holding up and the game went back down again. I've asked them to bypass the UPS completely to get the game back up but we need a new backup system or power flickers are going to screw us. That brings us to the final problem of money. There is currently no money to buy a new UPS, nor to pay for the colocation service being provided, so even though the game should be back online later today it is on limited life support without some donations. I work the next 3 nights but I will put an update with this info up on the updates page when I can, as well as trying to make some sort of donations bar with a goal for the month to see if we can get our bills paid off. If we can't then I guess that's it for Neveron since it's just a matter of time before the good people at Commspeed's billing department say something to the network ops guys and they pull the plug and put the servers on the curb. Any thoughts/input you guys have is welcome.




NOTE: The 'network admins' refered to are the people at the Host CommSpeed, not Neveron Admins
