Is it possible to customise the AI at all, I'd like to get my units moving more but I only play from work so it's good to be able to leave my desk and have things on auto pilot for a little while. can you up the number of spaces moved per unit per turn or are we stuck with the way it is?

Pretty much the only thing you can do is give them ideal ranges to try and keep, and pre-place them so they don't start battles scattered around if they are attacked

Go to the map screen , click on the zone concerned to select it. If terrain is not generated then click the create terrain button. You will then see
"If you have units in this zone, you may set their default defensive positions on the map. Without positions selected, defending units will be placed randomly when this zone is attacked, grouped together by lances. To place your units, click here . "
Click here , and the map will load and you can select the units in the zone and place them then save their positions.
