Hail Empires of Neveron -
I am speaking to you after a long and arduous exile beyond the edges of known space.
My XT-438 "Assess0r" personal yacht/survey ship is currently in orbit over the brilliant green expanses of Neveron. I have been stealthily observing your world for a while (formerly MY world as well) and have determined, sadly, that the time is not yet right for me to return... nor may it ever be...
I see that inter- and intra-empire channels of communication are still clogged with needless bureacracy, preventing timely communication and realization of one's intricate plans.
I see that the mischievous hand of Fate still crushes swiftly and mercilessly the designs of noble Captains of Military and Industry... and it seems to be inordinately common in Neveron's sector of the galaxy.
I see that despite the increase in dishonorable military tactics, the collective of world governments balks at taking strong and decisive action to root out and purge these cells of treachery.
I see that the advanced technological planets of the galaxy still needlessly impose their technology/trade embargo on fair Neveron, depriving her military and civilian executives of the advanced command and control systems that have led to such productivity throughout the rest of human-colonized space!
and finally - I see that the most insidious of enemies still infests the corporate boardrooms and military command centers of Neveron's largest empires - any of whom _claim_ to be the 'Champions' of Neveron, yet clearly take their orders AND their sustenance from unknown off-world interests. ...While Neveron's TRUE defenders and loyal servants cower in their meager accommodations, afraid to stand up for the causes of righteousness, since the subsequent retaliation would amount to the annihilation of their peoples...
No, all is not well on fair Neveron...
Those of you with the courage to persist in cultivating this rough planetary jewel - you have my respect, and also my wishes of 'best luck' - you will certainly need it to overcome the challenges ahead!
and those of you who despair at the futility of your situation - look up, to the stars, and realize that a galaxy of potential awaits you there!

it's been months since i even thought of playing nev. i thought i would stop by to see how things are going and if any of the issues that drove me away screaming have been fixed, or even addressed. sadly, it appears that the answer is 'no' and that my self-imposed exile must continue.
lag is still out of control
bugs are still rampant
the admins are still COMPLETE pussies when it comes to exacting punishment on cheaters. (a FINE? of NEV-MONEY?! come on!!! the MINIMUM penalty for cheating should be INSTANT NO-QUESTIONS-ASKED DELETION OF *ALL* EMPIRES OWNED BY *ANYONE* INVOLVED, ALONG WITH PERMANENT IP/EMAIL BAN. and the maximum, as if you had to ask, should be for Randy to send someone over to their house to cut their @(#$* off!)
the interface itself is still scattered, inconsistent, counterintuitive, and clunky! (WEEEEEEEEEEEE! I AM TEH 3L|T3 COMPUT0R PROGRAMM0Rz0R!!! WILL U LOG ON TO MY S3Rv0R?! I KNOW HOW TO MAKE TEH WEB PAGES!!!!!11oneone)
and the elitism/'old guard'/clique-ing of donators and hard-core "i have a paid staff of 12 people that play Nev for me 36 hours a day!" mofos is as discouraging to young empires as ever!
(Most of us play games in the hope (HOWEVER REMOTE) that we might one day WIN! But when it comes to nev: I am incapable of deceiving myself to the extent that would be necessary to be convinced that i have a snowball's chance in HELL of even breaching the Top 100 of this game... Therefore, the 'fun factor' immediately drops to almost nil.)
those of u with a bit of forum savvy will recognize this as a classic 'rant', but it's a rant rooted in truth, and that makes it a sad, sad story, cuz the IDEA of the game is GOLDEN, but the implementation is $(*^@#!!...
Those of you who are having 'fun' playing nev - by all means, continue!
Those of you who say to yourself every time you log on (like i used to) "i am sure they will fix the problems soon", realize that you are deceiving yourself and that you may want to try one of life's other 1-bazillion activities to keep you entertained while you wait 5 years for nev to get optimized! =)

Snappy you should stay, we need someone wise like you, who doesnt actually live in neveron and is so serious.

I fail to see why your hatred of the game motivated you to write that extra-long IC explanation of why you haven't played.
1. Lag? I have a satellite connection (decent) and I don't get lag except I'm a tad slow in LW. You running a 28k? (I'm not insulting 28ks as I use mine all the time, how I loathe it.)
2. There are some bugs, but they're not rampant.
Pop bug, various lw bugs, and delete all mail not working are the only ones I know of.
3. Excellent idea, scare people off the game by taking drastic measures.
4. Program something as good. Now. Also, don't charge money and pay out of your pocket. Make the game interesting enough to get people to donate. Let people actually play during the Beta (current).
5. Not really. People can do whatever they want, donating keeps the game alive.
6. I play games to have fun. To relax. To enjoy. This win-based society is horrible. Games have lost the fun, and have turned into an enormous competition treadmill.
Nev is one of the best games I have played, and is easily the best MMO.

Flameseeker i cant agree with you more.
Psychosis no offence but you play comstar and of course get beat down but chet and other guys, so I wouldnt doubt you hate nev.
from what i read this guy knows next to nothing about nev, thinks he does.
I have a cable modem and have all most 0 lag. 56k sucks but try any online game with a 56k, lagcity. I tried UO on 56k once and got my ass kicked, also MW, and so many other I cant count. Get a real modem.
Bugs are her but its a beta, and they do fix them. They are no where near like in the old days of a few years ago.
If you understood nev at all you would understand that selling from one empire to your other shouldnt have your IP baned, are you a sadist (sp)? Oh by the way if you played for more then a day you would know they do ban people for major offences.
Since you have no past knowledge of nev you dont know the old interface, its been much improved, thanks yoss. Interface isnt there big issue here its improving nev.
I dont know if you guys consider me old guard but I've been here a long time and help all that ask nicely as do 99% of old guard. No one has 12 people hired to play for them, the only person who did was Waz and if you rag on him I'll personally take my cripple butt to where ever you live and kick your but as he died on 9/11 and was the nicest guy ever. Oh yeah reality check there 24 hours in a day not 36.
cant ever get to top 100, you suck that bad? I barely donate pocket change and allways have not donated much and from years of playing have grown to what I consider a med size empire ( most would say im a lot larger then med, but I dont think I am) I'm in top 100 in allmost all my empires, my main is in all but rep, morale, and cash ( but I could and normally am but am building stuff)
If you want to "win" nev then you should stay longer then a day for it sounds like your so used to everquest type games where you become lvl4 in 2 hours you have no paintance at all.
I'll say it again for the hundredth time, neveron isnt a game you win in 2 weeks but a game in which you play for 2 years and still find ways to loose.
Thats what makes nev great, its not I win yeah, ill never play again. It a game you get bigger and better everyday slowly, hence why we love it.
You think your rant is true yet you have no history of nev or hardcore facts in there at all.
Frankly good ridence and hope you and people like you never come back.

First off, one of the greatest things about neveron IMO is that the cheating is controlled. Look at any other game and there is cheating ALL OVER. The game creators actually have neveron under control, except for the 5 empire rule of course which is immpossible to enforce :/.
Second, Neveron does "end". LWs end, Duels end and empires end sometimes as well. But think about other games like Role Playing Games. You keep a player for a very long time, continually fighting with it. Then you might turn to another player, just like you would make another empire. The goal isn't to make the top 100, just your your goal in, say Starcraft shouldn't be to play professionally in Korea. The goals just to have fun. If you don't like the game, then you should probably try a new genre, but many people are happy with this game.
And youll find older players in every game. Theyre the ones that have played longer! Duh. There are plenty of newer games to play with as well. You don't have to try and dominate the existing "old guard", just like you don't need to start playing Starcraft right now and beat everyone you play. Just fight people your own level.

I agree with Nev being the best MMPOG, especially the best free one. Also about the lag part...i have recently upgraded to cable and the lag magically dissapears...How i love broadband. Krynn i dont hate Nev or anything, just having a hard time :P its still fun tho

While much of what he said is questionable, there are some good points there as well. I am still playing, even though the 5 empires I currently have are grasping at straws, trying to fix thier broken economy's, in the (sometimes, it seems, futile hope) that they will be able to achieve what they initially started for. The game is ever changeing, and I have felt the burn from having goals I thought were reasonable turned into not just long term, but LONG LONG LONG term, and some, put out of reach for AT LEAST a few RL years. To me that is part of the fun though. (No, being frustrated is NOT fun, the ever changing aspect is though)
I have disagreed with Krynn and Krait on a few (very few really) things, but for the most part, they are right, and with the knowledge to support this. We still need people like this to play though, simply to keep it in perspective what is going on with Nev, and how MANY of the smaller Empires feel, and see the game. I dont want to have to always listen to whiners (even though I have, on occasion, been one  ) but the poiunt they make is no less a point. More one sided than many, more biased than many, but non-the less pertinent because of the "whiney" tone.
In the past few months (almost a full year, wow) I have been playing, there have been changes to Nev that make it MORE large empire oriented than small, and in many aspects, the benefits are ONLY reallised by large Empires. Not a bad thing, it just makes it....dificult....for me to justify stroking the admins ego's all the time, even though they have done a fooking hellified job of making a game that rocks, AND ITS FREE!!!!! I still see a need for those with issues to get out here and bitch, simply to keep it all in perspective.
While I totally respect Krynn's and Krait's opinions, many times they are coming (it seems) from the "large, established Old Skool" perspective than the Wow, this is totally new, whats THIS do!?!?!? Point of view, hindering the abillity to see that these are actuall concerns to people who thought this was a game with different paths to sucess. Not going to use the "Winning" thing, as this is not the case, more along succeeding. And many of these aspects are being altered, in ways that are making it harder and harder for small Empires to really succeed in (at least IMO) some of ther more fun aspects of the game, ie (we know there are issues, these are just examples) arenas, certain aspects of land war, Pop tp BV ratios that could use a bit more tweaking, and some other stuff that I just dont care to research (I am lazy, wait, no, thats LAAAAAAAAAZY, and the less I have to do, the better) and yes, in CERTAIN INSTANCES, lag plays a HUGE role in combat, and conflict, on Nev. These are by no means definative listings of pertinent bugs, or issues, just some that I have noticed that make me wonder what I can do, aside from the "cooky cutter" Empire, to make it more interesting for me, and not just your base formula for "This is how you succeed, if you dont do it THIS way, you are dumb, and deserve to fail" .
I like to keep in mind that no matter what I like to do with my empires, they are all living on borrowed time, and that sooner or later, I am going to watch one get blown the hell up. This will suck, but will open new oppurtunitys, chances, things to do, as well. This doesnt mean I still dont feel like I got the shaft on a few things, just that change is something that will always be there, and while some are good, some are bad, the game will ALWAYS be changing, and this can only lead to better things, so even if things we see as problems, bugs, restrictions, etc etc, change is still good, simply because it keeps the game growing, and evolving. Oi.
I have to go finish fixing the brakes on my car, it seems they dont want to stop me all the way now, and that is a bit troublesome. Not that I really NEED to stop  , just that it is expected at certain times while driving  .
