The ancient dropship using them bobbled for a moment before settling in and landing awkwardly on the tiny pad. A small entourage of robed men waited nearby, watched over by two imposing yet poorly maintained battlemechs. A dusty and forlorn town stood in the distance, looking more like an armed camp than a city. It was literally littered with vehicles and battlemechs, none of them in good condition. The main personnel hatch opens, and an uniformed figure walks briskly-angrily-out to the waiting party. He begins shouting, and all but one of the waiting men seem to cringe.... "...meaning of this?! Why did you divert me to this forsaken outpost? Why are you here in the first place??" The robed man stared at the ground. "Well? Answer me!" The robed man finally stirred, looking up at the soldier. "Things have...changed. They are not as they once were." The soldier, for that is what he was, was taken aback. "What do you mean?" "The Imperium... the Imperium, as you knew it, is gone. We while away the time here, but hope has already vanished. There is only this one outpost. What remains of our once proud Defence Force has retreated here, broken in spirit, with equipment failing or failed.
