Not sure if this would be a very worth while design change or not, and yes it would be a lot better with double heat sinks, so it has some hope...but the question is this would it be effective as the normal Ubrie?

Hmm, think the dual PPCs will have some trouble with only ten single sinks to manage them. What about a LAC and some ammo instead of that second PPC?

I think the PPC variant wouldn't be very good. The reason the original urbie has an AC-10 is for the heat/ no min, good damage ration of the weapon. Now normally im all for PPCs over AC-10s but The designer of the orginal Urbie chose well considering the mission of the urban mech. It has ok range so it can shoot down a street, yet no min range so it can get up close and personal or jump just behind someone. There are no heat conserns with an urbie using an AC-10 so it can blast away untill the ammo bin runs dry. The large laser version that someone suggested above would probably be more appropriate (and I hate IS large lasers).

Sorry, but the PPC Urbanmech will just shut down from over heating. It would be more of a target than the original Urbanmech is. Why change something that was a bad idea in the first place. Urban fighting is best for light tanks and PBIs. A mechs in cities are just targets. But if you really want a urban fighting mech say with med lasers. You don't need the range that long range weapons give you.

I would dump the small laser add .5 ton of armor. Change out the rest of the weapons for 7 med lasers and add 14 heat sinks. that will give you a hard hitting urban battlemech.
Why argue if the glass is half full or half empty, when you know someone is going to knock it over and spill it anyways.

The change was suppose to be step in the right direction to making it better.

Guys this is a Level 1 design.... no RAC or LG at that time....

Interesting idea.... don't see the point of 2 PPCs when can only fire 1 safely.... go for som short range weaps to fire into the PPCs min range instead and that should fix it....

Use energy as well and you could clain it's for extended city fighting where the 'old' design would run out of ammo.

He means Large Lasers, and there are those in level 1.

Not really. It still overheats terribly, and with that level of damage a player would want to stay at that range.

True. But I would thank that (like they said) an LL would be better than a PPC for it's lack of min. range.

Not to mention the fact you'd gain four tons (usefull for extra heat sinks), and lose four points of heat.

Still usefull, if only for the whiskey tango foxtrot factor.

No, I'd reserve that to some of the frankenmech's I've seen in the novels..Like this one Warhammer that had the bottom of a Rifleman.

Or was that the other way around..

The ten ton difference between the mech's would make for some interesting times for the pilot and gyro though.

And that one was not helped by the fact that the guy that offered to help him keep it going actually sabotaged it (last seen in the novel torso twisting through 360°, reapeatedly)

Star Lord. Highly reccomend it.

edit: and trust me, that was not a good thing, I'm fairly sure the pilot got woozy after a while, seeing as no one was shooting at him at the time.

Read it, meh, I've read worse..Some of Gressham's work is *diplomatic* uneven..Like when he forgot what class of warship the SLS (or CSV) Ranger was..(classified her once as a Congress, while she had been classified loads of times before as a Lola..)

Ok so back on trak.... my idea was:

drop 1 PPC -7 tons

add 4 MLas +4 tons (12 heat)

add 3 extra HS

so PPC could fire even while you run (not very fast but still a run) or jump

and in close twice the damage (20 or 23 with SLas vs 10)

Done

Tho that defeats the original point of the Urbie (low cost city fighter..... PPC expensive last time i checked) but gives it a good shot at long range.....

That would be a good idea, actually, and an odd idea for a light 'mech- try not to move.

I wonder why I didn't think of that...

PPCs were getting too hard to come by in 3025 to put one on an Urbie, much less two. Stick a couple of Large Lasers and heatsinks and you have an improvement over the origional, but an Urbie is still an Urbie.

what makes you say PPCs are hard to come by? They're one of the most common weapons of the 3025 battlefield.

No one has said why you need a long range weapon for city fighting yet. I still say say with medium ranged weapons like the Medium laser or SRM and so on.

Well, I think it is because many cities are based like checkerboards- i. e. while there are a lot of corners, there are also long roads between buildings. However, because they can be fired without LOS and *technically* can rise above them, I would go with missiles, like LRM's.

Plus, there are times you might be forced to fight outside of a city, and you are kind of screwed if all you have is short ranged stuff. (and a Urbie's speed)

Too true.... longer range is not a bad thing.... sure MLas is beast 3025 weap Heat/Weight/Damage wise but if you get ranged by anything that can move faster then you (Read ANYTHING else) then your screwed.

Not quite anything else, you can just about match the ground speed (and have better maneuverability than, due to the jump jets) of a Behemoth, and a Anhialator.
