DESIGN NOTES: I had to ponder for a while before settling on what to do with the Centurion. I always saw the Centurion and Enforcer as the two main brawlers out of the Medium 'Mechs in the TRO:3025, and as such I felt the Official upgrade went a little too far boosting the speed to 6/9. I went one step, using an XL Engine to increase speed to 5/8, saving a little extra tonnage relative to the FASA version.
Otherwise, I kept it pretty similar: upgrade the AC to an LB-X version, add Artemis to the LRM 10 (I don't care for the LRM 10 in general, but I didn't think there was enough tonnage available to justify an increase to a 15-rack). I used the remaining tonnage to add important Anti-Inantry with a Small Pulse Laser, a bit more general firepower with a Small Laser, and an additional ton of armour.

Nice well rounding of the Centurion. I can see this one entering the front lines very fast and one that could become a factory standard once reports from the field come in.

The lack of jets is interesting. For some stupid reason, I would figure it would have some.
I would have figured having the ammo in one torso and having only one case would give you some extra weight. Also, would suggest moving the small pulse into another body part to keep the arm open for punches when needed.

The Enforcer has jets, the Centurion doesn't. I'm not wild about the ammo being the only thing in the RT besides the engine. I'd rather have it in the arm with the cannon, but that's me sticking with the original concept. The SPL in the arm is for maximum firing arc...its Anti-Mech damage is minor anyway, so it's not a huge loss to not fire it in exchange for a punch. Plus, with the LB 10-X in the other arm, you're not likely to be double-punching; kicks would be the preferred physical attack.

DESIGN NOTES: Another Medium 'Mech I always liked. Unfortunately, the official upgrade just swapped in advanced weapons without bothering to account for the consequences: ERLL without additional heat control? Almost worse than than useless. The speed upgrade was nice though.
I ran through a few possible variations on this one. Endo Steel, DHS (drop the extras), Upgrade the AC/10 to an LB-X, CASE for the ammo. Frees enough space to add a second Large Laser, making this Enforcer one of the hardest-hitting machines in its weight class, particularly in the mid-range bracket. The only down side, like the original, is the single ton of LB-X Ammo.
I decided to leave it there as my primary upgrade, but I thought of 2 additional options, both involving added cost and vulnerability by using an XL Engine. Option 1: XL Engine, counter the risk by increasing speed to 5/8/5, drop the Small Laser, and add a second ton of ammo. Option 2: XL Engine, add ammo, upgrade the laser to a SPL, add AMS with 1 ton ammo, and add another ton of armour.

I like all of them, since they offer you a choice as to what is used, you can have two of your first take and then one of each of the other variants, which would be a tough lance to face, since they can work together and offer a lot of firepower. Overall an excellent job and shows what some thinking can do for a mech.
I can also see your variants as finial run products of the 3050 mech, the kind of things born of actual battlefield reports. Same thing happens with modern armor and fighters so it SHOULD be happening with the mechs.

That's the reason for the XL Engine versions. I much prefer having at least one ton each of Cluster and Slug ammo for an LB-X cannon. Unfortunately without the XL I'm a ton short. Only other option is to drop the SL and the CASE.

DESIGN NOTES: My Hunchback represents a bit of a variation from my general approach, but I thought about that for a while; the Gauss Rifle is an entirely new class of weapon in 3050, so what can it replace?
The Hunchback is legendary for being a close-range monster, but more than that, the concept as to put a BFG on a relatively small 'Mech. And in 300, there's nothing bigger rhan a Gauss Rifle, so what 'Mech would be a better candidate?
Endo Steel saved 2. tons, enough to upgrade the AC to a Gauss Rifle, add CASE, and still have a ton to spare. DHS frees up 3 more tons, which I intended to use to make this version a close-range beast even without the AC/20. With armour already near max, I decided to increase protection by adding a AMS, then upgraded the Small Laer to a Pulse for token anti-Infantry,a nd added another pair of Mediums. Not as brutal in close as planned, but with the Gauss only getting a +2 at point-blank range, there's really no reason to stop firing it until it's empty.

Ok, in seriousness...
As I stated in my Hunchback notes, the Gauss Rifle is a weapon that didn't exist in 3025, so I kinda went along the lines of "if they'd had it, would they have used it?" which eliminates most of the AC/5 -- PPC or AC/10 -- PPC upgrades, as the PPC was available at the time of the original design. The Gauss Rifle fits the same design idea as either the AC/10 (good damage/low heat at range) and the AC/20 (BFG, enough said) with the exception that an AC/20 design could be intended specifically for its close-range capability.
If I stuck only to direct weapon upgrades, I wouldn't be using the GR at all, which would be kinda lame...

My idea of an upgraded Hunchback was a GR, 6 MLs, and a 300 XL to give it speed that no one would expect from a Hunchback..
How many would expect a GR to move at 6-9 on a old mech design.

I had thought about increasing the speed, but first, I didn't want to go XL on everything, and second, increasing to 5/8 didn't seem to balance the risk (especially with an explosive weapon sharing the torso) but going up to 6/9 us (to me) too far from the original concept. Although moving 6/9 with the original AC/20 could surprise a few people, especially if you can fit Jumo Jets on there. That's a Hunchback worthy of its own designation!

You can replace a lot of things with the gauss. Some of it would need to have other modifications to it. I like the 20, but the range holds it back in the newer battles. The gauss is a good upgrade.

Forgot to include my opinion of the official TRO:3050 upgrade.
Giving new meaning to the term "minimalist", the official version used DHS (good!) without removing the now.unnecessary 3 extra sinks (inefficient); upgraded the Small Laser to a Pulse (good!) and added CASE (also good!) at the cost of half the AC/20 ammo (WTF!?!?!?!?!?!?)
Yeah, not one to be proud of. Would have been much better to drop one of the MLs and keep the ammo, if you're going to do a limited field refit.

DESIGN NOTES: The Trebuchet: Big Brother to the Whitworth, Little Brother to the Archer. More mobile than either, which sets it apart from most Missile Support 'Mechs.
The official upgrade was interesting, further improving mobility with Jump Jets, and employing CASE and a NARC Beacon. However, I find that version flawed for a few reasons.
First, the NARC Launcher itself has limited range, making it less than optimal for an LRM 'Mech to use it to enhance its own firepower. Second, the upgrade does not correct the 9E's greatest flaw: it's severely limited ammo supply.
I kept with the official upgrade by using Endo Steel and an XL Engine (Support 'Mechs have a much better chance to withdraw after taking heavy damage than Brawlers), but decided to pass on the Jump Jets as not really necessary or its role.
I boosted its primary weaponry by installing Artemis IV FCS on the LRMs, and doubling the ammo capacity. DHS Keep it cool, AMS reduces the danger from incoming missiles, ECM protects both the TBT and its lancemates, and finally I split half a ton of armour between the side Torso sections for better protection.
On the surface, the improvements seem minor considering the amount of high-tech that was added, but overall performance should be significantly improved.

DESIGN NOTES: The Dervish...where do I even begin? Twin LRM 10s (IMO one of the most items in the game), a pair of SRM 2s (the full ton of ammo for each seems wasteful, but at least you can carry both Standard and Inferno packs). Too little armour for its size. The official upgrade is predictable but uninspiring: CASE, upgrade the SRMs to Streak, boost the armour a bit by using Ferro Fibrous and adding another half ton. DHS.
I really didn't want to use XL Engine on this one, but I quickly realized there was no other way to get much improvement without a complete redesign. So I saved 10 tons total with Endo Steel and XL Engine. Three tons to increased armour coverage, 1 ton to CASE, 2 tons to additional LRM Ammo, and 1 ton to upgrade the SRMs. I was going to spend 2 tons adding Artemis IV to the LRMs, since I didn't have the tonnage to upgrade them to LRM 15s, but then I thought, screw it, and replaced them with a mass of LRM 5s. With 4 tons of ammo, I have 16 shots per launcher, plus a wide range of possible missile types to mix'n'match with each volley.
I considered dropping a ton of SRM ammo and moving the remaining ton to the Head, but I decided to stick with whatever screwball thought the original designer had, and kept the 2 full tons of SRM 2 ammo.
The final ton went on a third ML. Other option would be to go with a single ton of SRM ammo, and add either a ML in each arm, or a MPL in the CT.
Phew...glad to get that one out of the way. Now on to the fun ones

Nice upgrade. Not sure if the streaks can use alternative ammo like infernos.
If not, remove one ton of streak ammo, add case and half ton armor or case on both side..

Actually, something I thought of just after posting this: drop the extra Medium and replace the SRMs with SRM 4s. The reason I went with the Streaks in the first place was because I intended to use Artemis with the LRMs.

DESIGN NOTES: Back when I was first introduced to BTech, I wasn't a fan of the Griffin. However, when I revisited the game years later and learned the value of mobility, it became one of my favourite Mediums.
The official 3050 is OK, but to me it's not exactly efficient: nerly all of the tonnage saved with an XL Engine is sunk into upgrading the LRM to a 20-rack.
I took a more well-rounded approach. Endo Steel saved some additional weight, allowing me to not only upgrade the LRM 10 to the more efficient LRM 15 with Artemis, but also add a ER Large Laser in the Left Arm. I opted to keep the original PPC rather than upgrading to an ER model because of the heat output; with a Standard PPC, the heat balance works out nicely.
Finally, an additional 1.5 tons of armour give the Griffin excellent protection.

DESIGN NOTES: I always felt the Shadow Hawk was missing something. Like, I don't know, firepower?
As with the Griffin, the official upgrade uses Endo Steel and XL Engine to upgrade the LRM to a 20-rack, but IMO that's too much invested in a single weapon on a 'Mech designed for versatility.
An interesting upgrade would be to replace the AC with an ER Large Laser, but in accordance with my own restrictions, I stuck with the AC/, upgrading it to an Ultra. I kept the standard SRM 2 (moving the ammo to the RT), added CASE, added a second LRM 5, and went with a Narc Launcher to enhance its mischief-making ability (and because I hadn't used one yet, figured it was time I did!). Finally, I improved its close-range punch with a Small Pulse Laser and a second Medium Laser.
Still not powerful in any one area, but should be fun to use.

Streaks are great for those times you need to worry about ammo or need that one hit that is going to give you that PR or punch through kind of thing, but not always a guarantee. And the lack of other warhead options comes into play.
Now the SRM4 allows you use several other warhead types and that gives you a bit more to go with. I could see two variants, one with Streak and one with the Standard SRM.

The Streaks conserve ammo, but with 50 shots each, that's not really an issue. More importantly, they generate less heat, and none when they miss.
The SRM 4s have slightly less average damage than the Streaks + ML, but higher max damage, with more crit potential. As much as I love the third Medium Laser, I think I like the SRM 4 variant better. Although if I deviate from my restrictions by dropping using the Streaks with only 1 ton of ammo in a safer location. Saves a ton to add a 4th laser, or use a MPL for the third laser. I lean towards the Pulse actually.

The report says rt for case.. Didn't see anywhere else it says it for the griffin.
Damn. Almost suggested upgrading the ultra to a 10, but it wasn't out at that time. But you could go with the lb10x. Another possibility would have been upgrade the srm to maybe a 6 pack and forget the narc. I do agree the shadow hawk lacked a good punch weapon. DESIGN NOTES: Remember back when I awarded the Assassin the Silver Medal in the Worst Upgrade Competition, and you probably all wondered who took the Gold? Meet the Scorpion.
Moving too fast for its size resulted in the original Scorpion being rather limited, with moderate firepower, poor heat management, and not enough armour. For the TRO:3050, the new version upgrades to an ERPPC without using DHS, resulting in serious overheat with just a single shot of its primary weapon.
DHS alone would have made this one much better, but still a "weak sister" next to 'Mechs like the Griffin. The obvious solution was an XL Engine, saving a whopping 12 tons. Endo Steel saved a bit more, freeing enough tonnage to add a second ERPPC, along with enough DHS to handle it. With no crit space left, I used the remaining tonnage on a much-needed armour upgrade.

Considering the lightest canon[/I[ 'Mech with twin PPCs is the Warhammer, it's fairly impressive. With the Scorpion's speed -- and no min range on the ERPPCs -- I can see dropping the SRM for a Narc Launcher.
This design was probably my biggest pet peeve out of the TRI:3050. They had the chance to take an unpopular design like the Scorpion and turn into something exciting; instead they made it worse than the original, and gave a lame fluff excuse for it.

That's why I don't use C3, TAG, or Narc very often...they all depend on the makeup of the rest of the force. I'd rather have a primary version using the tonnage for weaponry, then have a variant using the specialized gear, depending on what else is hitting the field.

DESIGN NOTES: The Wolverine is an "iffy" 'Mech for me...good design concept, but the AC/5 leaves too little tonnage for anything else. Except at point-blank range, it's outclassed by the Griffin. While the mobility is useful, the AC simply does too little damage to be a primary weapon on a 'Mech this size, especially without an energy weapon as backup. While the FASA upgrade enhances the Wolverine's raiding ability with increased speed (MASC) and by upgrading the weapon systems, it still lacks the punch needed to be effective at it's weight class.
Once again, I used Endo Steel and XL Engine to save tonnage. CASE and an additional 1.5 tons of armour increased protection, while an extra Medium Laser and Artemis IV enhanced close-range capability. The main upgrade though, was to the primary weapon: I went the extra mile by upgrading the AC to a Gauss Rifle, giving this design a "bite" worthy of its name.

This upgrade is a lot better, gives the mech a needed boost in both ability and hitting power. The enhancements to the existing weapons makes sense as does the jump to the Gauss Rifle to replace the Autocannon. The extra medium laser does give it a nice touch and the CASE is an needed boost.

I always played "Stand and Deliver" style until I started playing Neveron, and watched a 4/2 pilot in a Mongoose take out a 4/4 Stalker.

Most of the time the enemy had his 55 ton mg that always move last in the round. He was a crit maker. Granted he got pissed when I used his tactics against him. The small laser carrier melted his mech down to scrap. Got on his flank and he lost that one. No more 18 mgs in the rear of our mechs. That is when everyone stopped using the close ranged weapons and stood back. Took longer, but made his mech obsolete.
