It seems most people aren't familiar enough with FishSpeakers to comment, actually. I'm certainly in that group. I only read the first Frank Herbert Dune novel and several of the recent follow-ons by his son and Anderson.

Could you tell us more about the Fishspeakers?

The best thing is to read the novels, I can see if I can find a web page with the info on them, but my telling you about them would be really limited to what I recall from reading the books 10 years ago...

I will see what I can do though...now to find the box will all of the Dune books in it...

Are these so-called "Fishspeakers" from the REAL Dune books or the wannabees that have come out in the past couple of years?

They're from God Emperor of Dune, the fourth book in the series.
It's set many, many, centuries after the first three, after Leto II becomes (and stays, heh) Emperor. His troops are called Fish Speakers, and are, each and every one, female.
Other than Leto himself, sandworms make no appearance IIRC.
That's about all I can recall.

Should I ask why his female bodyguards are called FishSpeakers?

Are they significantly hulking, brutish Elemental sorts, or lower key body guards?

I have a minor allergy to the original Dune books. Something about the writing style drives me away, even though I normally read sci-fi slavishly. So, if I can get the answers elsewhere...

lol, forgot that part. Now that you mention it, though.

Oh, and the reason for using only women was something along of lines of Leto wanting a "stern but fair" army, loving the people it's to keep in line...the Golden Path, and all that.

Yeah...Frank Herbert had a very dry style of writing...I haven't read Dune, but I read some of his other stuff...intriguing ideas behind the story, but a very tough read.

Oddly, I had no trouble his "White Plague." Partly because of the mix of horror of the unstoppable nature of the plague and partly because I easily imagined a reversed version of the plague that took out the other gender. Naturally, I'd be a survivor...

I tried another Dune book.

Actually, #3 Children of Dune ain't bad.
And #2 Heretics of Dune is kinda neat with the whole blind-but-can-see bit.
But the second trilogy is just whacked.

I`ve read all six, and had to buy them too
I like them. That said, I suspect Elementals are individually
more powerful than Fish Speakers. Now when it comes
to attitude... Fanatics willing to sacrifice their own lifes
for the Emperor vs fanatics hoping to die in glorious battle?
The Elementals are in for a rough time, what with being unholy
results of genetic engineering, using forbidden technology.

FishSpeakers vs Elementals

It's been few years since I last read the God emperor of Dune, but I recall few things. Fact that they can use lasers SRM's and machinguns gives Elementals the edge, as FishSpeakers do not use the shields. In close combat it's even worse as Elementals armor protects them from every form of weapon their enemies have.

No question! Fish speakers will win!

Regardless if them elementals got armour or not... there are weak spots at the joints.

oh, and the books get better and better, the first book already has the actual story of the cyclus hidden behind the obvious story. with the next book it becomes clearer.
