Was wandering around their website and clicked on a link that took me to price listings for a Starter Deck. It will cost US$19.95. Oh, great. By the time it makes it down here, it will be about A$45-$50. Sure, I can see 11 or 12 year-olds lining up to buy that...

*I* don't have that kind of money.

Who runs these companies? Do they have a degree in economics? I am doing Biology and it appears that I know more about pricing than they do.

Then I wandered over to the MW: DA Website. Not being a particularly computer-literate person myself, I must say I was impressed by the setup of their websites. Almost impressed enough to like what they were doing. They must have mind-control rays! Arg!...must...resist...

I was just on the site myself, and was looking at all of the images of the 'Mechs and stuff. They have modified AgroMechs!! How can they put autocannons and SRMs on AgroMechs! Plus, they make the Hatchetman look rediculous!!. It's a travesty!

On a side note, do you think that WK is ever going to OK the release of MWDA novels? Although, since Victor and Kai and Phelan will be dead by then, they're all gonna suck.

I don't think they do...but that is best thing about BT...everyone can have a mech they like and if not they can BUILD ONE THAT DO LIKE...gotta love that part.

To bad WK tossed that out in MWDA...

I totally agree with you on that point.

What would be cool is a mix of BT and MWDA. In it you could build your own 'Mech and everything that we love and cherish about our original game, but you could have big miniatures like the ones they sell for MWDA.

Of course, you could just get a few of those, change the scaling for your next BT match and use them along with a larger hexmap.

Or, you could take a bunch of BT miniatures and cobble them all together (of course, it could turn out looking like a Cataphract...

Robot toys are cool, they just aren't the point of BattleTech. I like robot toys, but if I want 'em, I get Gundam stuff or something like that. BattleTech has surpassed the robot toy and moved on to something more intellectual, and the guys at WK are trying to make it a bit more, eh, stupid so that the average teenage kid can pour cash into it.

Busty blondes would work better.

Come now I am sure every 11-17 year old down under will be rushing into to sell plasma to get money for the new drug called Clicky tech... I say this cause that is exactly what a lot of the kids here in the states are going be doing to drop $20 starter kit and around that same price for the boosters...and they are going to have to buy a lot of boosters..

But hey they hired a marketing company or consulant who told them that this is the way to go...or maybe they didn't and someone pulled the idea out of their fifth point of contact?

>>How can they put autocannons and SRMs on AgroMechs!<<

They don't. The Agro/Forestry/IndustrialMechs have claws, chainsaws, and such, and maybe some lasers or something, but no big honking weapons like we're used to in BT. (Remember, these Mechs don't have fusion reactors, they're diesel-powered. And they don't have heat sinks.)

>>On a side note, do you think that WK is ever going to OK the release of MWDA novels? Although, since Victor and Kai and Phelan will be dead by then, they're all gonna suck. <<

Yes, they've already said they will. Stackpole is writing the first book, which is due out sometime this year. And Jordan W said some of the old guys will probably still be around, except, of course, now they'll be old. Since Victor survives the Civil War and WoB Jihad and resumes his duties as Precentor Martial, I expect he's still kicking around somewhere. Not sure about anyone else.

Okay, if you do look at the site, you will see that the MinerMech has an SRM-4 and the ForestMech or AgroMech has an autocannon. You're right that they don't have many heat sinks cuz of the ICEs, but they can still use missiles and ACs.

I'll probably read the Stackpole novel, just cuz I like his stuff, and then I'll be able to tell whether or not this is gonna SUCK (I know the game is, but Stackpole's novels just may be worthwhile).

You know, I never did mention that it was practical. I just like chainsaws. What can I say? I loved Evil Dead II, so I'm a sucker for anything with a honkin' big chainsaw for a right arm.

BUT, on the miniature, my little half-brother took one look at the picture and said the chainsaw was a big car key. Now what are you going to do to another 'Mech with a big car key? Scratch the paint job? Yeah I can see it now: The Fifth Succession War starts because someone went and scratched the paint job on Katherine Steiner's Mech.

Hey, that would be funny.

At least, I think so.

I agree "big boobs" are highly over-rated. Many, many, many years ago I had a girlfriend with 44Ds. I was the envy of all my friends. I on the other-hand was not impressed.

I married a woman with 34Bs and I have been very happy.

The one thing I will say about my old girlfriend; her 44s were natural. Today, a girl with a set of 44s are more than likely artificially enhanced.

Hey! Are we gonna talk about how much Mage Tech sux, or are we going to talk about boobs?!?

"BOOBS!"

Well, alright then! I like 'em too...but Mage Tech is still going to suck...

My problem is that my local shop won't give me any time to set up Battletech Games...they take huge chunks of time out of the middle of the days on the weekend, set 'em up for Magic:The I-Have-Too-Darnn-Many-Cards-Addiction... Then, they charge to have games there on weeknights.

A good game of Battletech needs a contiguous chunk of at least 3 hours...I can't get it, so I can't get the exposure!

I do not know about conspiracy, but I do know that in my area of the country Mage Knight has fallen by the wayside.

My three sons and I bought a couple (more like several) hundred dollars worth of Mage Knight and really enjoyed the game. My concern for Dark Age is that collectable click-based games may have run their course.

The stores do not stock Hero-click in anywhere near the quantity that they used to stock Mage Knight. What I think may happen is that Dark Age may unfortunately tank.

I do know that my two oldest children are Mechwarrior computer/video game players and that they have told me they want to play with Battlemechs, not with tanks or infantry. So there are at least two kids (ages 11 & 15) not the least bit interested in playing Dark Age.

I am not sure who WizKids market is aimed at, but my two computer/video kids must not be their market.

Your kids are who they claim to be aimming their market at...10 to 14 year old kids who have mom and dad to buyt the stuff for them. Though most kids I know have an allowence and even then they don't get enough to drop $20 bucks on a starter set and then $10 per booster set.

But as been said they don't seem to want us the older hardcore and loyal fans...nope they would rather have the easy come and easy go market of teenagers who will lose interest the second some thing new comes out...

And we will see 10 and under playing MWDA instead of the actually market and gain the parents will be the ones buying the toys...

The thing is if WizKids wanted to get my children to play DarkAge all they would have to do is put four mechs in box.

WizKids could use the same distribution of commons, rares, and uniques that they use in Mage Knight. i.e. Farm-mechs and light-mechs extremely common, meduim-mechs much less common, heavy-mechs very rare, and assault-mechs unique.

The above was told me by my 15-year old. If WizKids did the above, my wallet would be empty. Why WizKids wants tanks and infantry is beyond me or my two oldest children.

By the way the DarkAge timeline does not bother me too much, because I can always mine it for ideas. I will purchase any source books or technical readouts that Fan Pro puts out for DarkAge.

I'm kind of thinking that your kids aren't the typical target market Wizkids is after. After all, your kids have already been expose to real Battletech. They want kids who don't know what a great game is.

And as for why they are selling extraneous plastic with the "Mechs", well...they want to sell more plastic. That's why they include "Vehicles" and "Infantry". (Elementary, my dear Watson.)

Sorry 'bout that. I didn't pay much attention to the recent stuff on the non-BattleMechs. Last I heard, it was up in the air about whether those were real autocannons or smaller ACs not really in league with the ACs we're all used to. And I didn't know they could SRMs at all; I wasn't sure they were big enough to carry them. I stand corrected.
