Chapter 1: The Coming of Dee
The battlefield was littered with shreded corpses of metal and burning ammunition. The Attack Company had paid a hefty price for this preemptive strike.
"The emperor is dead," the new lance commander of the First Attack Lance said solemnly as he examined the burning wreckage of the light armored attack jeep. "We have won the campaign, surrendered the militant imperialists on our borders, but such a price..."
"We'll need a new leader. The greatest warrior amongst us must be our leader if we are to survive," said the lance commander of the Second Attack Lance.
The remark was true. There needed to be a strong, fierce presence to lead the Combine from the front. But none could match the charisma and skill of the, now dead, emperor.
Late that night, when the feastivities of rememberence were finished, the man sat alone with naught but his confusion. How could he save his beloved homeland from invaders? How could the people sleep knowing that their freedom could very well be shattered in mere days? The guilt of weakness lay heavy upon his heart.
At some point during the early morn, that man raided the coffers, and met secretly with a black market 'mech merchant, peddling new wares freshly salvaged from the Word of Blake and repaired to fully functioning condition.
"She's not pretty, aye, but she's still a 'mech. A deadly piece of technology, alone she could take a company of your scout jeeps in the hands of the right pilot."
"The price?"
"Well..." the black merchant drew out the word. "A 'mech does not come cheap. The personal risk involved with it's salvage, the penalty for being caught, and the cost for the parts to repair her...You understand I must make a profit, yes?"
"Again, the price?"
"A mere...$20 million?"
"Deal," he said with a hint of venom. He knew he was out of options.
***
The Landing craft kicked up dust and small rocks as it slowly brought itself down to the empty field not far from the capital. Curious citizens poured out of their homes and crowded around the craft as it's jets died out.
An awestruck gasp rung out through the gathered people as the 'mech slowly stepped down the ramp.
"I ride my chariot of death and justice. All who stand before the Combine shall wilt away as I break their courage out from beneath them! I am Dee! Warrior-emperor of the Dee Dee Combine! Ride with me, my warriors! Through hell or heaven, leaving death in our wake!"
The crowd roared in approval and Dee became the unrivaled leader. Thus began the golden era of the Dee Dee Combine.

Chapter 2: And Thus He Be Known
The superior sensors of the Hornet battlemech gave a decisive edge to the liberating forces of the Dee Dee Combine.
Dee hit the jets and landed neatly on the other side of some heavy wooding. He grinned gleefully as the lock warning claxons of incoming missles faded. According to his sensors the long range missle carrier was on a ridge some distance west, a sizeable distance from it's close range support.
"Chariot to Second Lance, I have their attention. Begin your assigned attack manuevers."
"Yes, my Emperor." A voice rang back.
"Chariot to Third Lance." Dee urged his chariot forward at a crwling pace.
"Yes, emperor Dee?"
"Begin your support assignment. I want nothing left of those tanks by the time you're through."
"It shall be as you will."
Dee watched his troop movements closely, this manuever would need to be timed perfectly. His jeeps were coming in at top speed, recklessly charging in with the support element a distance behind them. Dee knew this would likely result a the destruction of the Second Lance, but it was for the good of the combine.
The enemy failed to detect the jeeps until they were practically right on top of them. The jeeps let loose a barrage of short range missles, locking turrets, damaging tracks and ripping off wheels. Those tanks that did manage a quick reaction destroyed one of the jeeps and crippled another. But the LRM carrier turned.
His attention was captured. He was moving in to bring it's massive damage capabilities onto the assaulting light vehicles. Now was the only chance Dee would get.
The Hornet's jets burned on full and the hornet launched itself onto the same plain as the LRM carrier. Dee cut the jets and got the Hornet running full tilt. The carrier's turret began to turn and Dee felt the warning claxons like pin pricks on his skin. His own long range missle system was far less powerful and had thus far been completely ineffective against his adversary.
"Not long now" Thought Dee to himself, trying to maintain his calm, reassuring himself he would stop the tank in time.
Dozens of missles exploded from the turret of the LRM carrier, smoke and fire almost obscuring it.
"DAMN!" Dee did the only thing he could think of and forced the hornet to dive face first into the dirt.
Missles exploded around him and he heard the heart wrenching sound of impacts on his mech. Warning lights went berserk around him, he was on internal structure on at least 3 parts of the 'mech and his left arm was almost completely gone. But he had survived!
The Chariot of Dee groaned in defiance as it raised to it's feet again. It had a slight limp now, but Dee was determined to destroy his foe before it could let loose another round like that.
The last thing the tanks crew ever saw was the massive foot of the hornet crushing thier cockpit. Dee roared in triumph! The enemy forces now retreated, with the few surviving jeeps hot in pursuit.
Hours later...
"Sir, we have recieved a messenger."
"What do they have to say?"
"The say "Our emperor is gone, dead by your hands. We have no will to fight. Please accept our surrender, and our offering to you. A tribute you can look forward to if you would be merciful and let our small empire continue to exist." End message."
Dee smiled slyly. "I think this arrangement suits us just fine. The landing craft should be here shortly, salvage what you can, destroy what you can't. We shall restock, repair and subjugate another insolent people."
A victory, hard fought and brutal. The losses would be but a stepping stone. These enemies had taught Dee a great deal, and the next shall feel it's effects.

Chapter 3: "Holy Crap A 'Mech!"
The cities had been very quiet. Very little seemed to be defending this empire's capital.
"This city's terrain is a nightmare," the new scorpian pilot grumbled. "I can't get anywhere."
"Yeah I know," Dee comm'd back to him. "I don't understand how someone could build a city like this. This is ridiculous."
"Well, I suppose it does have it's defensive advantages. After all my scorpian can get nowhere."
Dee considered for a moment. He tapped his sensor screen a few times.
"Damned sensor ghosts..." Dee mumbled almost inaudibly.
"Sir?"
"Oh nothing. This terrain would slow down friend tanks as well. I think that we may have been fooled into attacking a city of no importance."
Dee felt a tremor close by that rocked his hornet a bit. He saw a piece of earth fly up, torn from it's place by something massive. His sensors read the heat signitures and found that a battlemech had come over a hill to the east.
"Holy crap a 'mech!" Dee shouted in surprise. He then turned quickly and got behind a hill to obstuct the line of fire on himself.
"Hmm...Looks like it has an Autocannon. From the range and power I'd say it must be a 10. Do not want to get hit by that. I don't have that kind of firepower, how the hell do I deal with this without my fire support?"
Another loud thump accompanied this time by the whining of a laser.
"Getting closer...I guess I have no real choice!"
Dee hit the jets and flew over the hill, rushing straight at his foe. The enemy 'mech was slow to react and fired off a few shots that went far wide.
"Hah! We have ourselves a green pilot! Perfect!"
Dee landed expertly behind, fired his two laser systems and kicked the 'mech hard in the right leg. It buckled a little and the pilot couldn't balance himself quick enough so he went down hard.
Wasting no time, Dee alpha'd the prone mech and followed with a series of furious kicks. He didn't stop until the mech was unfunctioning. The enemy pilot ejected from the mech and disappeared into the miserable terrain.
"He left us a perfectly good mech," Dee laughed. "What a warrior he was."
Dee called in his landing craft. The city was his and this empire had nothing else to offer. Soon he would send in his crews to tear down and salvage the materials in this place, but for now Dee thought to leave the peasants with their hope of peace under his rule.
As the salvage was loaded onto the aircraft, Dee could hardly keep himself from getting giddy. He had doubled the mech force of the Dee Dee Combine today, and had proven himself in single combat with an enemy mechwarrior. Today had been a great day for him, and for the people of the combine.

Chapter 4: Enter Ant King
The emperor Dee was still salivating over his newly salvaged, and repaired, masterpiece.
"Why not pilot it yourself, emperor Dee?" a grease-monkey suggested, wiping sweat and oil from his eyes.
"I'm getting used to my hornet. It's not devestatingly powerful like that autocannon, but it's got the jets to get me anywhere I need to be." Dee looked over the specs for the salvage again. "This Clint, is it?"
"Aye. That's what her makers dubbed her."
"Well this clint doesn't seem to be jump capable. I like to lead from the front, and the hornet gets me there."
"Your choice, my Emperor, but remember that you have brought the end to many warriors 'leading from the front,'" The techie chuckled to himself, wiping his dirty hands on a rag and walking out of the make-shift hanger.
The man did have a point. It would be easier, and safer, to get someone else to do the suicide missions in the hornet. But who follows the words of a man that takes the easy path? Who is inspired by the tales of the Warrior-King leads from the back?
No. A true mechwarrior and a true emperor in this world was one who could stand amongst the grunts and cut down foe after foe where they cannot! They should come to revere the sight of the hornet descending onto the battlefield just as they would any deity.
A large, dark man walked into the hanger, breaking Dee from his reverie. The man said nothing, but he was big and imposing. He created an uneasiness just by his presence. He eyed the clint salvage with a hint of scepticism.
"Who are you? What are you doing here?" Dee overcame himself. He puffed up his chest, stood as tall as he could make himself and put on his best 'I'm the emperor' face. "This hanger is off-limits by my order."
"You need a pilot, I have some experience," the big man said matter-of-factly.
"What makes you think you have what it takes to ride in a 'mech? Beside the emperor no less? What gives you the right to become a god?"
"The world of gods and men are no place for one such as I. I am a warrior. Fight, kill, die."
"Wow, that's kind of..." Dee was drawn aback. What do you say to something like that?
"Large caliber autocannon, secondary laser system. Relatively fast overland movement, no jump capabilities. This will do." The man was giving the 'mech a visual scan. He must have been familiar with the machine if he could accurately judge it so.
"Hmmm...Well what's your name, big man?"
"I am called the Ant King."
"Ant King? Seriously?" Dee shook his head. "Well, ok then Ant King, your are now a pilot in our Clint. Get yourself used to it's systems. We'll be riding out soon."

Chapter 5: A Lagging Of Transit; A Twisting Of Fate
The rural village had provided little challenge for the fighting forces of the Dee Dee Combine, but the damage had added up on one member.
The Ant King and his clint battlemech toppled backwards from the recoil of the large caliber autocannon. Normally the mech would have been able to absorb it, but thanks to some clever infantry the clint's right hip actuator and foot actuator was damaged and an earlier cluster of short ranged missles hit his gyro. It was all he could to do make the 'mech move let alone fire accurately.
"Are you ok, Ant King?" Dee comm'd over.
"Just give me a shout if you need some fire support Ant King," offered the new scorpion commander, Deedle.
"I should be fine, you three shouldn't wait up for me."
"'kee-doke then Ant King." Deedle shifted his vehicle into top gear and burned off towards the much faster hornet.
Dee punted a jeep, which exploded in mid-air. Dee smirked, liking it to the color-flare displays on the days of celebration in the Combine.
By now Dee had been piloting his hornet for more than a year, he'd long since grown used to it's quirks and had mastered the most effective uses of it's systems.
Dee fired off a few tight bursts from his LRM5, rocking a manticore with the multiple explosions. With a fire erupting from it's side the tank attempted to turn it's turret but it jammed. Dee dashed in before the busted tank could turn itself to face him to bring it's formidable weaponry to bear.
Counting the seconds until he came into the effective range of his medium laser Dee kept his eyes scanning every screen while never looking away from his quarry.
The side of the tank buckled, Dee saw it breifly contorted and twisted, but mere seconds and the broken tank exploded in a ball of fire and unspent munitions.
"Damn it!" Came the deep voice of the burly Ant King through the comms.
He had gotten the clint in range and fired, but he fell again.
"How does your 'mech look? This city seems clear, but we'll have to wait a while for the landing craft."
"My medium laser is damaged, my leg is hanging on by a thread and I think my torso is almost non existant. Will be a rough ride if I have anymore fighting to do at the moment."
***
They hadn't bothered to even prop up the broken clint. It couldn't maintain it's balance on it's own anymore and they couldn't risk a chance of the ammo exploding since it would probably rip them all apart.
"It sure is taking a while for that landing craft isn't it? Seems like we've been waiting for days." Deedle sets himself down on the ground near Dee and the Ant King after his latest attempt to fix his scorpian's turret.
"Yeah, you'd think with the money we pay them they'd be actually willing to perform the service we paid them for."
"Just have patience," the big man says.
An uncomfortable silence came over them. This place was a city, but there was so few buildings and people here and they were spread far out so you couldn't see two buildings at one time. At least they didn't need to mingle with the locals other than to steal what food they had.
Dee and company felt an odd rumbling, like the ground itself was being shifted. But there was no quake. They could see no battlemechs on the small portable sensor the tech-inclined Deedle carried.
"I'm going to check that out, you two stay here and keep the clint safe."
Dee started up the hornet, feeling at ease as the hum of an activating engine and the buzz of panels and screens coming on surrounded him. First thing that caught his attention was the rather large slow mover coming in from the west.
Cautious as always, Dee made his way from hill to hole, keeping as few potential firing lanes on himself as possible while he searched for the slow mover. Didn't take long to find it though.
"Sweet merciful spirit in hell!" Dee shouted into the comm.
"What have you found emperor Dee?" Ant King responded calmly.
"It's a freaking behemoth assault tank! It's looking at me like it wants to eat some hornet stuffed with Dee..." Dee was laughing incrediously. Such a small empire with such a large and expensive piece of military?

Chapter 6: Of Man And God
Dee kept his hornet out of sight of the weapons of the rolling doom that was the behemoth assault tank.
The behemoth let loose a burst of missles and large caliber autocannons, firing wildly in the general direction of Dee and his hornet. None came close enough to be a threat, but it was certainly intimidating supresion fire.
"Ant King, Deedle, any chance on getting over here and giving me a hand?"
"Neg there big Dee," Deedle answered cheerfully. "My scorp's immobile and the clint can't hardly stand. Besides, you shouldn't run into anything you can't handle."
Yeah, nothing he couldn't handle. Only a behemoth. What is a hundred tonnes of rolling death to him and his hornet?
Biting his bottom lip Dee hit the jets and braved the threat of the monstrousity aiming for him. Taking no chance at sitting still Dee hopped from spot to spot, using whatever natural cover he could find.
Dispite the inaccurate fire of the gunners, Dee was rocked by a blast from the autocannon. The hornet's left arm crumbled from the impact, destroying the small laser mounted there. Dee loosed a few tight bursts from his puny long range missle system and jumped back behind a hill.
A lucky missle lodged itself into the tank's track before exploding, ripping the track off and bringing the behemoth to a rough and abrubt stop.
"Yes!" Dee whooped. "I just have to whittle it down now."
Dee moved into a batter position, slow and methodical in his approach. Fire and shrapnel exploded around him but his mech was no worse for wear, excepting his left arm.
When is range Dee fired his medium laser and long range missles as rapidly as possible into the right side of the behemoth, noticibly damaging it. Dee began to feel a new confidence overcome him. A misfire after one of the impacts seemed to cause the assault vehicle's turret to lock.
Dee moved like a shark, smelling blood he rushed in without thinking. Autocannon shells pass by within a few feet, but that didn't deter Dee. Still firing his medium laser into the damaged siding, Dee trudged on. Suddenly a burst of dozens of short range missles exploded from weapon ports straight towards the predatory hornet.
"Crap!" Dee cried as his 'mech was all but shredded by the deadly burst.
A follow up shot from an autocannon violently ripped the hornets left leg out from under it sending the mech sprawling forward and landing hard on it's already buckling armor.
A chill filled Dee's senses. What could he do? He was prone, his support wasn't coming and he was within throwing distance of the mostrous tank. Another one of those bursts of SRMs was sure to be getting ready to finish things.
Dee struggled to get the hornet to prop itself up on it's right arm. Aiming his LRMs at the damaged side of the behemoth he let out a final burst just as the behemoth fired it's missles again.
Luck had been with Dee! The bulk of the missles exploded around him but were unable to find any purchase on his armor while he own missles struck into a gash in the armor and set the behemoth's ammo ablaze!
The behemoth went up in flames for mere seconds before bursting in miasma of fire and shredded metal. The shockwave was felt, and the blaze was seen, for miles around. Dee had been peppered by shrapnel but had luckily come out of it alive.
His mech sent out an automatic distress signal to his fellow warriors, so Dee knew they would be there to free him from his thrashed machine soon enough. In the meantime Dee sat in the darkness considering all things to himself, with only the occaisional malfunctioning red warning light blinking and some busted circuits sparking to interrupt him.

Chapter 7- Ascending
Images of his near death flooded his dream. In a paralysis of terror, Dee awoke in his tent.
After forcing calm upon himself, Dee roused from his make-shift bed and in to his clothes. Still brooding over his recent bout of nightmares he went through his routine without much active thought.
Vision of violence flashed through his mind. He'd been finding it harder to control himself, and his want of destruction. His conscience had all but worn away under the stress of constant war and he seemed to be suffering from some sort of psychosis, noted some observers.
Clean and trimmed, he adjusted the collar on his jacket and walked out into the pre-dawn. The night was hot, the tent-city they erected smelled like sweat, burning metal and excrement and Dee simply could not wait to leave this place and find his peace on the field of battle.
As he strolled through the worn, street-like path, the restless weary of the Combine gathered to offer their praise and pledges of loyalty, bowing in reverence and admiration. His hand held their existence, they had seen him carry death to the disloyal and the ignorant that call themselves rival empires.
"The Combine has no rival." Dee thought.
Soon the crowd grew too large for the path to be travelled. It seemed that more and more people had left their tent-houses and rushed out to meet their emperor. They begged for attention, for the affection of the mighty ruler. And their voices raised in prayers and songs of praise! They cried for his blessing! More and more people left their tent-houses and rushed out to meet their emperor...their god!
Bile rose in Dee's throat. He could taste his disdain for these people. For too long the forces of the Dee Dee Combine have been split. Always leaving behind capable warriors to protect these worthless people. They did no work, they simply squatted in the riches plundered from the less worthy neighbors. The were lavished in the blood-gold of Dee himself, and this thought disgusted him.
Dee pushed his way through the crowd, to the hanger of his mighty battlemech. The techs had done great work with it of late, finding new ways to increase it's armor permanently. It was truely an inspiring sight.
Soldiers moved in behind the emperor, cordoning off the area surrounding the hangers. The unworthy shall not tread on the ground of the gods, thought Dee.
"Lord Dee, what is your will?" asked the Ant King, as tall and proud as ever. He improved much since he first took the clint into battle, though his shooting was leaps and bounds ahead of his actual mech control ability. But as long as he killed, he was worthy.
"Gather the fighting men," Dee commanded.
Short moments later the entirety of the Dee Dee Combine's standing army was gathered and ranked before their warrior emperor. They stood at attention, waiting anxiously for Dee to speak.
"Your orders," Dee began, making sure his voice was as powerful and imposing as possible. A perfect commander voice. "Your orders are to scatter to every city in the Combine. You will be split up, equal numbers sent to each one. Burn them all to the ground. I don't care what happens to the people. They have held back our acension for far too long. Burn everything to the ground!"
Not so much as a murmer came from a soldier. Some looked shocked, horrified, what of their families and friends? But none dared question his order.
"You see, dear warriors, only we are rightfully allowed to exist! These cities, these people, they are bottom feeders! Feasting on what scraps we drop! No, no...We can not let them bogart our fighting spirit. We will begin a holy crusade, in the name of Dee, and we will scorch our brilliance into the very ground people begged to share with us! We will be known as terror and death, mercy or brutality! You have ten days to get your reports of the cities being leveled to me, or there will be consequences."
Dee turned a sharp 180 and marched off into his mech hanger, laughing. He was trembling in anticipation as he ordered the techs to prepare his chariot for war.

That ending places the story back in the glory days before OMT. Ah, memories..

Chapter 9- Faulty Intel The forces of the combine had ruthlessly removed all the worthless cities, scattered the people, and Dee was eager to mobilize his entire army.
Dee's face was guant and it had a feral look to it because of his unkept, unshaven face. He was upset, his spoils of war were denied to him by not existing and he was in need of something to satiate his lust. They had moved to this location by the lure of technology complexes and all that would defend it, but they had been tricked!
"There are seventeen empires surrounding our current position as best as we can tell," the scout looked nervous.
"Bah! We have fodder and we have me! Plus the newest recruit," Dee muttered dismissively, obviously distracted by something else.
"But, some of these are....considerably more established kingdoms. Forces and funding far beyond ours, not to mention allies."
Ah yes, allies. Dee knew he had too few allies to call on in case of emergencies. He was the prodigal student of a faction master elsewhere in the world, and recieved funding and semi-frequent communication from the leader of the Federated Suns, but otherwise he was alone.
"How many comparable to ourselves?"
"Six. Maybe 8 if we were to recruit more fighting men."
Dee considered something. A wolfish grin flashed cross his face as he started to work his radio.
"Send in the newest recruit." Dee said, authority oozing from his voice.
A statuesque man walked in. His face looked devoid of any thought or emotion and his body looked as though it were carved from stone. He had been trained and enhanced beyond any normal soldier. He was the perfect warrior, suited only to riding the best of the best.
"State your name," commanded Dee.
"Dum," the warrior responded.
"State your unit name."
"GHR-5H Grasshopper dubbed 'Pacifier of Dee'."
"Excellent..." Dee smiled inwardly as he turned to his rudimentary map of the area. "This is us." Dee pointed at a small, very small, piece of land. "This is who we will attack in 10 minutes." Dee made a circle with his hand encompassing everything else. "Make yourselves ready."
The ten minutes came and went quickly, but Dee was mounted up and charging off. It wasn't until he marched straight into one of the target's cities that he realised he was alone.
"Bastards! Afraid of a little fighting, are they? Do they not think that we can win against all these little nobodies?" Dee growled. "Fine. I'll beat them all into surrendering myself."
Just then a message comes in.
"Uh, sir? We have engaged enemy forces in this small nation's city but we cannot locate you on our sensors..." Lt Deedle sighs. "The Ant King is with us though, so our forces will take this without you."
"Pacifier of Dee engaging enemies. Friendly forces not detected, will carry on alone." Dum's powerful monotoned voice reverberated through the hornet's cockpit.
Dee giggled haughtily. A war on 3 fronts with his forces seperated and cut off from one another.
"Keen."
